What is this?
The Royal Collections is one of Madrid’s most overlooked museums. Housed in a striking modern building integrated into the Royal Palace complex, it offers a breathtaking journey through Spain’s artistic and historical legacy.
You'll begin with a tour of the exterior of the majestic Royal Palace — an opportunity to learn about the relationship between the Spanish monarchy and the Royal Collections. Then you’ll head into the museum, where you’ll discover the richness of Spain’s past through a vivid exploration of centuries of power, art, and tradition. You’ll experience the Collections in an intimate, thoughtfully guided way.
The collection is vast and exquisite, showcasing masterpieces, royal artifacts, and remarkable works that illuminate centuries of heritage. You will discover masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, Caravaggio, and El Greco, alongside royal tapestries, antiques, and more. Each one of these objects tells a story about Spain's nobility, faith, and art.
What makes this unique?
Jaime has extensive knowledge of the collection and royal history. He’ll curate your visit, ensuring you see the most exceptional pieces, and will bring the collection to life by revealing its cultural context. You’ll also have a chance to get to know each other over a drink and a tapa.
One of the newest additions to Madrid’s cultural landscape, this museum remains largely uncrowded, making it a peaceful alternative to the city’s better-known sites. It offers a rare, contemplative view into the history of the Spanish monarchy and its artistic legacy — a chance to linger and truly absorb the details.
Set beside the Royal Palace, the museum’s monumental modern design heightens the experience, its clean lines and restrained geometry in dialogue with the centuries-old grandeur next door. You’ll have the chance to step on its terraces, where the museum opens directly onto views of the Royal Palace and the gardens below — a rare perspective on Spain’s seat of power and art.
What is the profile of the host?
Jaime holds a degree in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid and also studied at the Università Ca’ Foscari in Venice. He spent several years working in cultural management for one of Madrid’s most prestigious private art collections, deepening his understanding of Spain’s artistic heritage and its place within Europe.
Today, Jaime is a professional guide based in Madrid, collaborating with leading institutions and cultural organizations across the city. A member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) under UNESCO, he brings both academic rigor and lived experience to his tours. He speaks English, Italian, and Spanish, and guides with the insight of a scholar and the warmth of a local.
What to bring?
