What is this?

This experience takes you deep into Mercado de la Ciudadela, Mexico City’s premier artisan market, known for its vibrant stalls, traditional crafts, and generations of skilled makers. As you explore its aisles—lined with handwoven textiles, carved wood, pottery, papel picado—your host will guide you through the stories behind the objects and the people who create them. With over 350 vendors, the market can feel overwhelming. Your host will help you navigate, translate and connect with the artisans. Along the way, she’ll photograph you in candid portraits, using the colors and textures of the market as a vivid backdrop. You’ll meet at least one artisan for a more personal exchange. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how regional styles and indigenous influences shape Mexican craft today. The tour ends with a stop at Taquería Miranda, a beloved spot known for its simple, perfectly made tacos. After the tour, you’ll receive a curated digital photo gallery to remember it all.

What makes this unique?

La Ciudadela is a living archive of Mexican craftsmanship. Your host, Marie, knows the space well and will guide you through its busiest corners with context and care. With her background in photography and her deep interest in Mexican arts, she’ll help you see what makes each piece distinctive—how styles shift across regions, and what traditions have been passed down through generations. She’ll also introduce you to one or two of the artisans in the market, who will speak directly about their work, with Marie translating as needed. These are real conversations with people keeping Mexico’s craft traditions alive. As Marie documents your visit in a series of natural portraits, the market becomes not just a place to shop, but a part of your Mexico City story. Combined with a meal at one of the city's most respected taco stands, this private tour offers a rich and personal way to engage with Mexican craft and culture—and take home more than one kind of memory and souvenir.

What is the profile of the host?

In this experience, she combines her photography skills with her passion for welcoming people to her home city and helping visitors experience the best it has to offer. With Marie, you won’t just receive a collection of beautiful portraits from your time in Mexico City—you’ll also get to know the city more deeply and feel at home.
