What is this?
THIS EXCLUSIVE ONCE-A-YEAR-EXPERIENCE IS AVAILABLE FOR ONLY 6 PARTICIPANTS ON APRIL 14
The Lunissanti of Castelsardo is one of Sardinia’s most unique Holy Week traditions, with medieval origins. As night falls, the town’s lights dim, and a torchlit procession winds through the ancient streets, creating an atmosphere of deep spirituality.
The Confraternity of Santa Croce, known as the Apostuli, carries the Misteri, symbols of Christ’s Passion, while three traditional choirs sing hauntingly beautiful sacred chants: the Miserere, Stabat Mater, and Jesu. These polyphonic chants, performed at precise moments, blend rhythm, silence, and devotion, making this event truly mesmerizing.
This experience is guided by a photographer, who will share expert tips on capturing the event’s atmosphere, and a choir member, offering insights into the meaning, structure, and history of these ancient songs. A rare chance to witness a centuries-old tradition through both artistic and cultural perspectives.
What makes this unique?
This experience offers rare insider access to one of Sardinia’s most intimate and cherished traditions. The Lunissanti procession isn’t a staged event—it’s a deeply rooted ritual, carried out with devotion by the local community, and you’ll witness it not as a spectator, but as part of the moment.
What makes this truly unique is your guide, Gianmario, a photographer and choir member, offering a dual perspective that few can provide. His deep connection to the event means you’ll gain photographic expertise as well as insight into the chants and their emotional depth. You’ll learn to capture the flickering torchlight, solemn expressions, and hooded confraternities carrying the Misteri, symbols of Christ’s Passion.
More than observing, you’ll feel the collective emotion of the locals as the haunting polyphonic chants echo through the medieval alleys. A rare chance to experience a sacred tradition through the eyes of those who keep it alive.
