Ioannis Ioannou

What is this?

This experience weaves together landscapes, stories, and craftsmanship from Santorini’s lesser-known paths. It begins with a stop at a striking volcanic opening for a wide, wind-kissed view of Oia and Imerovigli from afar. Afterwards, you'll meet some of the island’s skilled artisans who continue to create by hand. Depending on the day, they could be a ceramicist, jeweler, sandalmaker, woodcarver, or leather worker-—artisans Ioannis knows personally as fellow islanders. You’ll then wander the winding alleys of Emporeio, a village with remarkable architecture, where homes are built into the protective curve of a Venetian wall. Pause here for an ice cream or a baklava with homemade lemonade—before heading to the island’s Tomato Museum, where Santorini’s famously intense cherry tomato is preserved along with the memory of a vanishing rural life. The experience ends with a soul-warming lunch at a family-run taverna. Alternatively, you can swap lunch for a visit to a small family winery.

What makes this unique?

Beyond the clichés, another Santorini endures—made of family-run shops, lived-in workshops, and people who carry forward skills, gestures, and stories often overlooked. What makes this experience different is the space it gives to encounter those lives without spectacle: what you see is not staged, but simply ongoing. You’ll share a table where the recipes are still handwritten, and the ingredients come from places with names and faces, not labels. You’ll listen to voices that speak of time, practice, and the pride of those who continue to make with their hands, every day. Ioannis is part of this living network, having been born and raised here and still living on the island. He introduces you to people he’s known for years. His presence opens doors that are rarely accessible to visitors, allowing you to enter the natural rhythm of places as if you were a friend or a family member, not a visitor.

What is the profile of the host?

Ioannis Ioannou was born and raised in Santorini and lives on the island throughout the year. His strong connection to the place shapes the experiences he offers — guided not by fixed itineraries or checklists, but by the authentic rhythm of local life. He welcomes visitors with the genuine warmth of Greek hospitality, creating moments that feel less like organized activities and more like spending time with an old friend. Through his perspective, guests discover a side of Santorini where life moves at a slower pace — where people pause for coffee, conversation, and to appreciate life’s simple pleasures. With a natural talent for storytelling and a keen eye for detail, Ioannis designs experiences that are thoughtful, unhurried, and truly memorable.

What to bring?
