What is this?

Experience the traditions of Croatian cuisine with a 5-hour Peka cooking class set on a picturesque family farm in a village near Dubrovnik. Beginning in the morning, this immersive experience introduces you to Peka, one of Croatia’s best-known traditional dishes. Though it may look simple at first, Peka requires real skill and experience. At the center of the experience is the peka itself, a dome-shaped lid under which meat and vegetables are cooked slowly, either in a fireproof pot beneath the coals or directly on a stone slab. You’ll learn how to prepare this hearty dish, usually made with veal, lamb, or yearling beef, along with potatoes and other vegetables. The experience also includes time among the family’s olive groves, where you’ll learn how the olives and oils are produced and enjoy a tasting session. It culminates in a farm-fresh Peka lunch, served with the family’s own wine, offering a true taste of the Dubrovnik countryside.

What makes this unique?

Set on a picturesque small family farm dedicated to producing and offering only naturally grown products, this experience combines hands-on cooking with a strong sense of place. As you learn to prepare Peka, you are not simply following a recipe, but immersing yourself in a traditional culinary practice shaped by patience, judgment, and experience. The intimate setting creates space for meaningful conversation and insight into Croatian life, especially during the time spent waiting for the meal to cook beneath the lid. The experience is further enriched by an olive oil tasting among the family’s groves, highlighting the region’s renowned olive oil tradition and the farm’s commitment to natural and sustainable practices. Shared over lunch and wine, the day becomes more than a cooking class. It is a celebration of Croatian hospitality, tradition, and the quiet pleasures of life in the Dubrovnik countryside.
