What is this?

Unleash your inner artist (and architect) on a 3-hour sketching experience in Chile's capital of culture. Led by Jaime Núñez, a Chilean architect and urban planner born and raised in Valparaíso, you’ll explore Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre on foot, armed with a sketchbook and pencil. Jaime will teach you how to read a building, understand its symbolism, and appreciate how public and private spaces coexist in a city. Along the way, he’ll share curious tales and trivia about this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll also gain insight into how Valparaíso's unique topography has influenced its architecture and urban design, shaping the city's identity over centuries. No sketching expertise is needed—this activity accommodates and inspires everyone to adopt the mindset of an artist. Children, novices, doodlers, and dreamers are all welcome. Templates are provided to assist with sketching.

What makes this unique?

Jaime has created Valparaíso’s only sketching walking tour, where you'll train your eye to see beyond the surface of this historic port city. Instead of taking photos, you’ll leave with a sketchbook filled with your own interpretations of its palaces, residences, plazas, and alleyways—each line and shade reflecting your unique perspective. This immersive experience is enriched by stories that reveal the layers of a city many photograph but few truly understand. With Jaime—who never leaves home without a freshly sharpened pencil—you’ll gain a deeper appreciation of urban spaces and the communities that shape them. Designed for beginners, the experience includes architectural worksheets and guided prompts to help you get started. Jaime will then challenge you to think creatively, embrace imperfections, and solve visual problems in your own way. By the end, you’ll graduate with a handmade sketchbook, newfound confidence in your artistic abilities, and a fresh way of seeing the world.

His mission is to inspire creativity in every traveler who sets foot in his home city and to encourage them to look beyond the surface.
