What is this?
Get ready for an exclusive, art-filled day of murals, mosaics, and storytelling with one of Santiago’s prominent artists and artistic directors. This private full-day experience in Puente Alto, Chile’s mosaic capital, grants you access to the world of contemporary mosaics through the expert lens of artist and muralist Shannon McEvoy.
After a private pickup from your hotel, you'll set out on an immersive journey through Puente Alto on foot. You’ll admire large-scale installations—including Latin America’s most expansive mosaic intervention—while learning about the artistic techniques and cultural narratives behind each piece.
The experience culminates at “Alas de Amistad”, a mural inaugurated in 2024 to mark 200 years of diplomatic and cultural ties between the United States and Chile. As a co-artistic director, Shannon provides exclusive insights into the artistic vision, collaboration process, and the community’s role in bringing "Wings of Friendship" to life.
What makes this unique?
This private exclusive experience offers rare behind-the-scenes access to Puente Alto’s mosaic movement, led by one of its artistic directors, Shannon McEvoy. As a muralist and community arts advocate, Shannon provides unique insights into the artistic techniques, cultural narratives, and community involvement behind these large-scale installations.
The experience fosters a deeper connection to public art as a storytelling medium. You’ll gain exclusive insight into the creative process—from concept to execution—and hear firsthand how Chilean artists have shaped Puente Alto’s visual identity.
With Shannon’s guidance, you’ll engage in thought-provoking discussions about the intersection of art, urban spaces, and community identity. This experience also offers a rare opportunity to practice Spanish in an immersive setting, picking up local expressions and Chilean slang along the way.
What is the profile of the host?
Originally from Minnesota, multimedia artist Shannon McEvoy studied in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. Inspired by the street art of Valparaíso, she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and later became a muralist herself.
Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—though her talents extend far beyond. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography. As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.
Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.
