What is this?
Immerse yourself in bohemian Valparaíso with the one and only experience focused on Previa al Carrete—the transition between work and play—in the port city. This 4-hour food and beverage experience takes you to historic bars and restaurants known as Picás Porteñas, where you'll savor authentic flavors, sip a tangy Pisco Sour cocktail, try local craft beer, and swap stories over board games with your host.
This sensory journey whisks you away to authentic corners of Valparaíso, where you’ll be captivated by steep streets and vibrant murals at golden hour. At each Picá Porteña, you'll hear tales of a city where fishermen, sailors, poets, painters, artists, craftspeople, activists, and students have coexisted over the decades.
The route departs from the historic port quarter in El Plan and passes through the grandiose Plaza Sotomayor. After ascending by funicular to Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre, you'll explore the nooks and crannies of these beautifully bohemian barrios.
What makes this unique?
Curious how Valparaísinos unwind after sundown? This evening food and culture experience invites you to discover what happens once the day-trippers have left. You’ll visit time-honored bars and eateries known as picás, where conversation, local flavors, and community life come together over food, drink, and board games. Many of these beloved spots have remained family-run for generations, preserving Valparaíso’s authentic spirit.
This cultural exchange focuses on storytelling and connection. Your guide will spill the secrets behind Chile's beloved cocktails, including why the nation consumes Terremoto (Earthquake) cocktails every September and what season to order the drink known mysteriously as Cola de Mono (Monkey's Tail). You'll bond over board games at the beloved Buho and have the opportunity to practice "Chilenismos" in a relaxed setting.
If you wish to extend the evening, your guide can share personalized recommendations for where to eat or catch live music.
