Italy

Corviale is one of the most ambitious and controversial housing projects ever built in Rome. Conceived in 1972 and stretching for nearly a kilometer, this massive complex—locally known as Il Serpentone (“the big snake”)—was inspired by Brutalist and Rationalist architecture and designed to house 8,500 people.

Walking through Corviale today means entering the layered story of a city that, in the 1970s, faced deep social inequality—when a third of its population still lived in shack settlements. This experience unfolds as a moving urban workshop: you’ll explore the hopes and failures that shaped this space, from its utopian promise of public housing to the long years of abandonment, marginalization, and stigma.

As the district undergoes a slow and ongoing transformation, this walk invites you to question what renewal really means, and how architecture, policy, and community intersect in the making—and remaking—of a city.

This experience offers a rare chance to explore Corviale with a sociologist who has spent years studying the urban stereotypes often attached to Rome’s outskirts. As you walk through the architecture and social fabric of this monumental complex, you’ll gain insight into the hopes and contradictions that shaped it.

The conversation will also open up to a broader reflection on similar projects from the same era—like the Vele di Scampia in Naples, built to house families displaced by the 1980 earthquake. Irene Ranaldi is an urban sociologist and independent researcher based in Rome. She was the first in Italy to publish a study on gentrification comparing her own neighborhood, Testaccio, with Astoria in New York. Her work draws from historical archives and years of field research, focusing on the social transformations of urban districts and the shifting boundaries between city centers and peripheries.

Peru

Outside Cusco, in a quiet Andean valley, sit two carefully restored Inca sites: Inkilltambo and Kallachaka. Most visitors miss them entirely. This half-day private tour, hosted by a local archaeologist, walks you through both.

A 30-minute path from the road brings you to Inkilltambo, restored as recently as 2016. Water still flows through stone channels Inca masons cut by hand. Terraces, carvings, and a granite huaca anchor the site — Inca chronicles describe this as the place where Pachacuti, before becoming emperor, had the vision of the sun god that shaped Inca religion.

Delsi points out what's Inca, what's older, and what came after: colonial-era lime kilns near the Kallachaka Bridge layered onto Inca terraces and pre-Inca foundations, all visible in the same view. Finally, Kallachaka is a truncated stepped pyramid that served as ceremonial platform and astronomical observatory, with views down the valley toward Cusco. Over lunch with Delsi, the conversation keeps going.

Inkilltambo and Kallachaka are a study in how the Inca made no firm distinction between the practical and the sacred. Inkilltambo's irrigation systems served both crops and ceremony. Kallachaka's pyramid had stone alignments which let priests read the sky to organize both the planting and the prayers that accompanied it.

Walking these sites with Delsi is different from walking them alone. She stops at sections of carving and explains what they tell her about how the work was organized. She points out where the colonial period broke into Inca infrastructure. A working section of the Qhapaq Ñan — the imperial road that once connected Cusco to the four quarters of the empire — runs through Inkilltambo's terraces; you walk a piece of the same road Inca runners once used. The setting is quiet and largely empty of other visitors. The morning fills in what seeing Saqsaywaman alone would have left out: the smaller infrastructure, the working land, the daily cycles of an empire's religion.

Bertie, an English Sommelier, and Aby, an Argentine chef, are a Buenos Aires-based couple dedicated to sharing food, wine, and excellent company. Bilbao History 101

The Bay of Biscay is famous for its beautiful coastline, beaches, and food. At Mundaka you'll stop off for a panaromic view, which changes dramatically between low tide and high tide. You'll then be taken to the historic town of Bermeo for a walking tour.

Heading inland you'll find two examples of Basque artistry. Santimamiñe is a cave that contains Paleolithic paintings and engravings dating back 14,000. These depictions of bison, horses, and deer give us a glimpse into a prehistoric world. This cave is only accessible April-October. Meanwhile, nearby, in the Bosque de Oma you'll find pine tress painted by Basque artist Agustín Ibarrola in the 1980s.  The geometric shapes, eyes, animals, and colorful forms you'll find here change depending on where you're standing, playing with your perspective in the forest.

This journey captures the essence of the Basque Coast in a way that blends scenery, culture, and cuisine. Mundaka is legendary for being home to one of the longest left-hand breaks in the world, making it a pilgrimage site for wave-riders. La Madrugá is the most intense night of Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Seville. During the week leading to Easter, the city fills with processions organized by religious brotherhoods — traditions dating back to the 16th century.
Around midnight on Maundy Thursday into the early hours of Good Friday, Hermandad de la Macarena — founded in 1595 and one of the most revered brotherhoods — leaves its basilica and moves slowly through the city in a procession that lasts up to fourteen hours.

Getting there on a little ferry tossed around on the surging Atlantic Ocean needs courage. As the boat uses all her resources to maneuver into a tight, rocky harbor, I wonder if the captain, who does this twice a day, is either extremely brave or completely suicidal. We step on to what looks like the sets of a Disney fantasy movie. Twenty colorful grass-roofed homes, one little schoolhouse - which has one child - and a bridge over the Atlantic.

I meet my guide Harald - a septuagenarian with poise to rival the curious sheep we see hanging precariously over the cliffs. Harald leads our little group on a 4-hour hike across the island to the lighthouse at the westernmost point of the Faroes.

Birds are everywhere - puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes, gannets - on the green hills, riding the ocean waves, occupying every inch of cliff space, filling the air with their calls, and circling the sky.

The Great Barrier Reef is famous not only because it is the largest coral reef in the ocean, but also because it is the most beautiful one. For those who like snorkeling or diving, an unsurpassable underwater world opens up.

My highlight in Australia was definitely the day trip to the reef. From Cairns, we took the tourist boat out to sea. Since the water is relatively cold, you get a wetsuit and then have hours to discover the unique underwater world.

I saw sharks, turtles, huge colorful corals, man-sized fish, thousands of small schools of fish, a clam, rays, snails, and lots of underwater plants.

Remember that you are a trespasser in the underwater world, so be careful not to touch or destroy anything. Use organic sunscreen and always be respectful of your surroundings.

Definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world also gets to show off their Christmas decorations. Galeries Lafayette are great at doing this every year with their floating Christmas tree!

This place is located 100 km far from my home  and its in fundy national park New Brunswick canada  and its really amazing place the water falls looks soo good when you look with your nacked eyes  its a fresh water fall and the water also taste good we did hiking as well as had some snacks with my homies its a great location to come out for a good day and a good hike and have spend you day in nature i am a huge nature lover and i love to be in nature when i am on my off days i am so much indulge in nature activities like camping fishing bonfire start gazing from mountains bagpacking etc etc

A day out for hiking at fundy

The Mayan culture is one of the most important indigenous cultures in Southern Mexico. Artifacts from bygone times stretch far across the jungles of Quintana Roos and Chiapas. 

If you want to learn more about how indigenous peoples lived before colonization, don't miss the ruins of Palenque. Arguably the largest Mayan ruins on the continent, they're tucked away, deeply hidden in the Mexican jungle. The highlights of the actual ruins are the numerous temples, a palace and aqueducts, and of course, a guided tour where you can learn all about Mexico's history. If you venture out into the jungle, you'll encounter rare wildlife like monkeys, colorful birds, and giant snakes.

Take sunscreen, plenty of water, and some snacks, as the tour takes at least half a day.
