In this experience, you visit a premier soroban academy near Tokyo that has a reputation for training students who compete at a high level in national soroban competitions. At the academy, you join the class itself, learning the techniques of this mental conditioning tool alongside young students and discovering how this training sharpens concentration, memory, and speed.

Bernardo typically runs this experience in the La Boca neighborhood, where you will pose to an aesthetic backdrop of colorful tenement buildings and street art around Caminito. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Southern Algarve to Andalusia

A road trip itinerary from Algarve to Andalusia through Moorish heritage and Atlantic traditions.

Australia

The best thing about visiting Australia is that scenic views and spectacular nature are just a stone's throw away, no matter where you are. If you're in Sydney, you won't get a better view of the ocean than walking through Royal National Park and taking Bundeena Drive to Marley Walk.

Passing through scenic heathland with small trees, you'll soon come to a bushwalk through a denser forest. We saw many native bird species, including the famous cockatoo, had a dip in one of the pools along the way, and took stunning sunset photos as you look out over the wild ocean. The tourist highlight is Wedding Cake Rock, but our personal star was Marley Beach, a dreamy, hidden sandy beach where you can relax and dip your feet in the refreshing water.

You can rent a car and drive directly to Bundeena, but we decided to take the train from Sydney to Cronulla and from there take the ferry to Bundeena.

Nestled between the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the vast Sahara, Agdz is a small yet historically rich town that serves as the gateway to the stunning Draa Valley. Once an important stop along the ancient trans-Saharan trade routes, this region is renowned for its lush palm groves, traditional kasbahs, and breathtaking desert landscapes. Whether you're drawn by history, nature, or photography, Agdz and the Draa Valley offer an unforgettable experience of southern Morocco’s beauty and heritage.

1. The Draa River winds through the valley, creating a striking contrast between the golden desert dunes and the lush greenery of date palm oases. It’s one of Morocco’s most picturesque landscapes.

2. A 17th-century fortress called Kasbah des Caïds stands in Agdz, offering visitors a glimpse into Morocco’s past with its beautifully preserved mudbrick architecture and panoramic rooftop views.

3. Endless palm groves stretch across the valley, providing a peaceful setting for walks or bike rides under the shade of towering date palms. The region is known for producing some of Morocco’s finest dates.

4. Traditional Berber villages line the valley, where visitors can explore vibrant souks, meet local artisans, and experience warm Moroccan hospitality over a cup of mint tea.

5. The desert landscapes beyond the valley lead into the vast Sahara, making Agdz a perfect starting point for a camel trek or a night under the stars in a desert camp.

The best time to visit is October to April, when temperatures are cooler and the valley is at its most vibrant. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for reaching remote areas, and packing a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water is essential for outdoor activities. Staying in a traditional kasbah guesthouse offers an immersive experience, while a camera is a must to capture the stunning palm groves, kasbahs, and desert landscapes.

Yves Saint Laurent gifted Jardin Majorelle to Marrakech, the city that adopted him and his partner in the 60s. They bought an electric-blue villa and its garden, preserved the vision of its original owner (landscape painter Jacques Majorelle), and opened it to the public.
