Alex and Rocío have been running tours along the U.S.–Mexico borderlands for many years, primarily as a way to share positive, accurate information about the region they call home. Beginning in 2019 with efforts to disseminate local history, they soon expanded to offering tours and experiences that connect visitors with communities on both sides of the border.

Alex’s earliest memory is a family visit to Tijuana—an experience that sparked a lasting fascination with the people and heritage of Mexico. While at university, he focused his studies and research on the Hispanic cultural heritage of the American Southwest and Mexico.

Rocío is a graphic designer who has managed communications projects for a range of institutions, including government agencies and nonprofits in both the U.S. and Mexico. She loves sharing the diversity and richness of the region through visual storytelling.

On this exclusive deep dive into the connections between Zen Buddhism and the tea ceremony, Zen art history expert Eric Luong takes you to the Jotenkaku Museum, part of Shokoku-ji Temple, to explore its collection. Eric will give you a curated tour of the museum’s vast cultural treasures created by Zen priests and followers.

After gaining an understanding of Zen Buddhism through its artwork, you’ll move to a 100-year-old machiya townhouse to take part in an exclusive private tea ceremony that demonstrates the concepts you explored at the museum. After the botanic walk, you will experiment with cyanotype, an ancient sun-print technique to transform the collected herbs and flowers into a unique work of art, exploring a new connection between you and the soul of the place. You'll reconnect with nature and yourself by exploring the Sardinian landscape surrounding a traditional village and experimenting with your creativity through an ancient, sustainable artistic technique powered by the sun. The cyanotype technique, dating back to the 19th century, allows you to print on paper or fabric using sunlight and natural chemicals. An intense Prussian Blue emerges as the image gradually appears under the sun’s rays.

Chile

This 3.5-hour architectural tour of Valparaíso, Chile, is led by local architect and master of urban planning Jaime Núñez. Jaime (also known as Ja Cariocandino) will introduce you to the city’s layered identity through a tour structured around ten public spaces that—in his expert opinion—are architecturally remarkable. The tour includes transport by private vehicle, punctuated by short walks designed to deepen your understanding of the urban landscape and local community.

Valparaíso's distinctive topography—with steep hills surrounding a narrow coastal plain—has shaped how people live, move, and build here. Jaime reveals how public spaces hold the memory of expansion, migration, and resilience.

This experience is offered as a shared activity for up to 5 people, with the option to make it private. Included are: photographic guidance and technical support, transfers by metro or bus, street food tasting, light lunch, a surprise for each participant at the end of the day, group and individual photos sent via WhatsApp or Instagram, follow-up on 10 selected photos in the following days via Google Meet or WhatsApp.

Originally trained in economics and working as a business consultant, he was influenced by his grandfather, a painter, to develop a deep sensitivity to light and composition.

Francesco’s work explores the relationship between individuals and urban spaces to convey the raw essence of his subjects. Since 2020, he has been sharing his expertise through workshops and masterclasses, bringing more people into the world of street photography. His "Slow Photography" philosophy emphasizes patience, immersion, and understanding places before capturing them.

Türkiye

This experience is a sensorial journey through Kadıköy that reveals Istanbul’s cultural identity through its drinks. You’ll begin with Turkish coffee brewed with mastica, and learn how, in Turkish tradition, fortunes are read in the coffee grounds.

At the next stop, you’ll taste sherbet, the Ottomans’ favorite refreshment, and ancestor of Italian sorbet. Depending on the season, you might try boza, a fermented winter drink, or salep, a warming blend of orchid root + milk.

Then you’ll visit a traditional tavern for the rakı ritual — how it’s poured, paired and enjoyed slowly with cheese, melon and şalgam (pickled turnip juice) to temper the heat of anise. This is where you’ll hear about Turkey’s fermentation story, from yoğurt and tarhana to ayran.

Your guide will lead you through Kadıköy’s local bar scene. You’ll try a Turkish beer, a bite of late-night street food, and maybe a cold glass of ayran. The night winds down with Turkish tea, served with sweets and conversation.

Lisa will meet you at the Kadıköy ferry pier, on the Asian side of Istanbul. If you're coming from the European side, the easiest way is to take the ferry from Karaköy or Eminönü — both offer frequent and scenic rides across the Bosphorus, taking about 20 minutes.

Corviale is one of the most ambitious and controversial housing projects ever built in Rome. Conceived in 1972 and stretching for nearly a kilometer, this massive complex—locally known as Il Serpentone (“the big snake”)—was inspired by Brutalist and Rationalist architecture and designed to house 8,500 people.

Walking through Corviale today means entering the layered story of a city that, in the 1970s, faced deep social inequality—when a third of its population still lived in shack settlements. This experience unfolds as a moving urban workshop: you’ll explore the hopes and failures that shaped this space, from its utopian promise of public housing to the long years of abandonment, marginalization, and stigma.

As the district undergoes a slow and ongoing transformation, this walk invites you to question what renewal really means, and how architecture, policy, and community intersect in the making—and remaking—of a city.

This experience offers a rare chance to explore Corviale with a sociologist who has spent years studying the urban stereotypes often attached to Rome’s outskirts. As you walk through the architecture and social fabric of this monumental complex, you’ll gain insight into the hopes and contradictions that shaped it.

The conversation will also open up to a broader reflection on similar projects from the same era—like the Vele di Scampia in Naples, built to house families displaced by the 1980 earthquake. Both Corviale and Scampia were born of urgency and idealism, yet followed different paths. We spend nearly four amazing hours in the Sand River Circuit in the midst of a spectacular head of grunting wildebeest. Led by “collective intelligence”, these animals complete a 1000 mile loop over the course of a year, and most survive for several seasons of this tough journey! 

When we arrive in the Grumeti Reserves, further south, we find the last few hundred thousand or so wildebeest. Here they are extremely purposeful and move in a single-file. Perhaps they have realized that they are late and will miss out on all the new green grass in the northern plains. They kick up a storm of dust as they move forward with determination - though it is not unusual to see the whole herd running swiftly back if something ahead spooks them. 

It is here that we see the consequences of the ‘battle’ - injured animals or those too weary to complete the journey. This is sad to watch as they will soon become easy prey to the predators. 

Such is the ⭕️ of life.
