In 1953, Shoghi Effendi, guardian of the Bahá'í Faith, envisioned a temple to unite a continent. By 2016, this dream crystallized into the Mother Temple of South America—and today this is the first stop on your one-day odyssey of Santiago de Chile.

The Bahá'í Temple of Santiago is a structure of nine luminous “petals” each arching skyward like a prayer. Thirty meters high, its glass-clad sails filter daylight into a sanctuary for 600 souls, symbolizing the Bahá'í tenet of oneness.

Arriving at Los Dominicos Artisan's Village is akin to walking into a living archive of Chilean tradition. Nestled beside the 18th-century San Vicente Ferrer Church in Santiago's Los Condes district, this enclave of 200 workshops hums with the legacy of Mapuche metalsmiths, colonial leather workers, and mestizo weavers. 

Julio will weave you around the artisan village and introduce you to craftspeople who will share their work and stories. As this is an opportune moment to pick up souvenirs, it is advisable to carry cash (Chilean pesos). 

Trace your fingers over copper cookware forged in ancestral fires, inhale the earthy musk of medicinal herbs, and savor empanadas—a culinary relic of Spain’s Moorish past reborn in the New World.

Los Dominicos Artisan Village

Huelén, the Mapuche called it; "here is the place." 

In 1540, the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia raised his cross upon this volcanic outcrop, thus founding Santiago as a bastion of empire. Today, Santa Lucía Hill's serpentine paths lead past moss-crowned cannons and neoclassical follies with each step a dialogue between Indigenous resilience and colonial ambition.

Refresh with a tangy Pisco Sour and savor Pastel de Choclo—a caramelized corn pie steeped in Andean tradition. This one-day history tour of Santiago concludes in the Historic Civic Center where Julio will introduce you to such wonders as:

This immersive, sensorial experience spans two half-days, honoring the ancestral craft of sourdough bread-making. Inspired by the ancient Greek myths of goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone, it combines bread-making, storytelling and mindful rituals that honor the sacred grain of wheat.

On the first half-day, you’ll learn about the ancestral art of sourdough breadmaking, delving into the significance of wheat in ancient Greece and its connection to Demeter. Through a mindful practice, you’ll prepare the dough, engaging with the wheat, your senses and the land of Athens. The bread is left to ferment overnight.

On the second half-day, you’ll bake the bread and share it in a ritual of togetherness. Paired with curated seasonal local foods, this mindful eating ritual fosters community and gratitude. This transformative workshop combines hands-on learning with cultural, mythological and spiritual elements, offering practical baking skills and a deep connection to ancient tradition.

Demeter taught mortals the art of bread-making. In this ancestral sourdough bread-making workshop, we’ll revisit ancient bread-making traditions and the types of bread the Ancient Greeks created. We’ll connect with our bodies, the ancient land of Athens, and the wheat itself.

Through hands-on learning, you’ll physically engage with ancestral methods of bread-making, deepening your connection to the craft and the stories behind it. The workshop also nurtures mindfulness in eating habits and respect for ingredients, transforming the approach to food in everyday life.

This is a sensory-first introduction to Turkish wine, designed to remove the pressure of traditional tastings. It's a hands-on, intuitive way that creates a different kind of connection through play. It begins with a blind tasting game: you’ll receive six wines and a tasting card and spend 20 minutes identifying aromas and flavor notes—quietly, at your own pace.

Then, your expert host Andrea leads a guided tasting that explores native grape varieties and how regional terroirs—from the vineyards of Thrace to the volcanic soils of Central Anatolia—shape each wine. You'll learn how Turkish winemakers are reviving ancient traditions and redefining the country’s wine scene.

Whether you're new to wine or curious about lesser-known regions, this is a hands-on, culturally rooted experience that connects you to Turkish wine through taste, story, and place. As the author of the first comprehensive book on Turkish wine, The Essential Guide to Turkish Wine, Andrea brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the table. She has a knack for making the complexities of wine both accessible and enjoyable, encouraging wine lovers to explore the lesser-known yet fascinating world of Turkish wine.

The itinerary spans four locations in downtown Santiago, each accessed by metro during this outing.

Upon meeting your host, Flor, at La Moneda Cultural Center you will view the current textile exposition installed at the gallery before continuing onwards to the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center. These centers serve as an introduction to traditional weaving styles still prevalent in modern Chilean and Andean cultures. Flor will then take you to her go-to yarn store, the ultra-funky Revesderecho, and explain about different fibers while sharing the historical development of store items for context. The experience concludes at the Los Dominicos Craft Village in Las Condes where Flor will facilitate conversations with artisans.

Flor has curated this experience as an opportunity to learn about Chilean textiles in a relaxed context. While visiting two cultural centers, a modern yarn store, and an artisan village, you will "unravel" the history and cultural significance of textile design and learn how techniques are woven into the fabric of modern-day Chile. Flor is unique in that she both looks to the past while embracing innovation in her work. 

The cultural centers are in themselves an exciting place to tap into modern Chilean culture. Both are a melting point for all kinds of artistic expressions—textiles, art, music, and beyond—where free and ticketed exhibitions ensure culture remains accessible. Florencia Campos Correa, or Flor, is a Chilean-Spanish textile designer and author based in Santiago. Her business, Ullvuna, is dedicated to portable pin loom weaving kits which are available globally. Much of Flor's inspiration comes from her passion and appreciation for Chilean culture and people. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers. 

Spain

This 8 hour high-end experience takes you deep into Seville’s culture and history, all led by a cast of local historians and experts.

You’ll start with two of Seville’s most important architectural landmarks: the Alcázar and the Cathedral. You'll then slip into spaces off the tourist path, such as private areas of Seville's historic City Hall, a private palace still lived in today, and a sacred brotherhood's richly decorated chapel - a "jewel box" that is almost never seen by outsiders.

Along the way, your host will contextualize the city's Catholic, Moorish, and Jewish legacies, overlap, exchange, and transformation. You’ll walk through the old city on a route of nunneries, where you’ll taste pastries made by cloistered sisters.

Mexico

This experience is ideal for anyone curious about the enduring Zapotec people—a culture and community whose roots in Oaxaca stretch back more than 2,500 years.

You’ll learn the history of the structure, admire the intricate hand-painted details made with natural dyes, and climb an ancient staircase to a 17th-century organ that’s still played during church services.

Ehren Seeland is a Oaxaca-based creative with a background in art and design and journalism, who travels the globe for professional and personal pursuits. A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

This hands-on art experience introduces you to printmaking in the relaxed setting of a multifaceted artist's intimate studio in a charming village near Valparaíso. 

Under Marcela's guidance, you'll try your hand at crafting a monotype print using non-toxic, soy-based inks. Marcela will support you through creating the design and nurturing your natural talent and proving that everyone has an inner artist. By the time the activity is complete, your monotype will be ready to take away. No prior experience or proven skills in drawing or printmaking are necessary. 

To conclude your trip to Concon, Marcela will recommend local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile" where you can stop for lunch or dinner. 

The experience provides rare access to the studio of a professional Chilean artist. Marcela's portfolio spans lithography, painting, and folk art and she will share rich insight into Chile's artisanal legacy and culture while you create.

Marcela's studio is attached to her home above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concon, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This area is rarely visited by international tourists which means you get to experience a truly local community. 

In terms of inspiration, you only need glance outside where dunes tumble to meet the waves of the Pacific and seals cling to rocky crags. This residential neighborhood is alive with flora and avifauna. Marcela is well-versed in Chilean mythology and has further visual prompts to unleash your creativity. 

Refreshments and local pastries are provided. If you're lucky, you may even get to sample the famous "pancito amasado" bread baked by Marcela's father, a retired lighthouse keeper.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist. Born in 1965, Marcela grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis, USA, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at Casa Plan in Valparaíso.
