You’ll observe a live demonstration by a master artist, learning the techniques of working with fabric—how to prepare the base, control the pigments, and create balanced, flowing designs. Using natural earth pigments, you’ll craft a vibrant scarf, watching colors float, swirl, and settle into intricate shapes before being transferred onto fabric. By the end of the session, you’ll take home a unique wearable piece of Turkish heritage.

Unlike traditional paper marbling, this experience explores the delicate and complex process of marbling on fabric, a technique requiring precision, patience, and expert guidance. Textiles absorb pigments differently than paper, making the final result even more dynamic and unpredictable—each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. Guided by Nesi, a master Ebru artist, you’ll learn the secrets of adapting marbling techniques to textiles, controlling color diffusion, and achieving stunning, fluid designs. Beyond the hands-on workshop, you’ll also gain insight into Ebru’s deeper symbolism—how patterns like “battal” (stone), “nightingale’s nest,” and floral motifs reflect nature, spirituality, and the interconnectedness of life. Nesime Kantar is a highly respected Ebru artist and educator specializing in textile marbling. A graduate of Mimar Sinan University, she trained under master calligraphers and marblers, refining her expertise in both traditional and contemporary applications of Ebru. With over two decades of experience, Nesime has been leading workshops at her Galatart Ebru Workshop in Istanbul since 2009. Her passion for preserving Turkish marbling has led her to explore its many forms, from bookbinding to fabric design. She has perfected the intricate process of transferring Ebru onto textiles, creating wearable and decorative artworks that honor this historic craft. Through her engaging workshops, Nesime not only teaches technique but also shares the rich symbolism and meditative qualities of Ebru, ensuring that each participant leaves with a deeper appreciation for this living tradition.

This 3.5-hour experience is offered as a walking tour that dives deep into the history and culture of Valparaíso through its vibrant art and food scenes. The route focuses on Barrio Puerto, Cerro Alegre, and Cerro Concepción, where you’ll encounter photogenic buildings, street murals, independent galleries, and foodie spots. Mexico

This cooking workshop takes place in a scenic Indigenous Zapotec town and introduces you to local ingredients and techniques specific to regional tamale-making. You'll be guided by a member of a Zapotec women’s collective that supports local women and their community, along with your guide, who will assist with organization and translation.

During the workshop, you'll get hands-on experience with the ingredients and methods used by the women in this collective to create handmade tamales. Women Supporting Women is a collective founded in the 1990s by Indigenous Zapotec women—many of whom were widowed, single mothers, or unmarried, circumstances that were socially frowned upon at the time. In addition to cooking, the group also weaves wool rugs, producing handcrafted pieces sold in their workshop.

You'll leave with a deeper appreciation for Zapotec cooking traditions and a richer understanding of the historical and contemporary challenges facing this community.

Taking place in a social impact-oriented space, this workshop is located in a traditional Zapotec village relatively close to Oaxaca de Juárez. It not only offers insight into local ingredients and cooking techniques but also supports the core mission of this women-run project, which helps local women and their broader community.

Joined by a host with a long-standing relationship with the organization, you’ll be welcomed into this meaningful space and invited to learn more about local culture and food traditions from a Zapotec perspective.

Proceeds from this experience go toward maintaining the space itself—a safe, communal hub where widows, single mothers, and unmarried women can sell their handmade textiles, host workshops, and take part in personal development courses focused on finance, self-care, and marketing skills.

Ehren Seeland is a Oaxaca-based creative with a background in art and design and journalism, who travels the globe for professional and personal pursuits. A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

Argentina

This half-day wine and gastronomy experience in Mendoza includes a wine tasting, olive oil factory tour and tasting, and a delicious lunch in the middle of the Argentine countryside. This links together three artisanal staples of Mendoza’s table — wine, olive oil, and bread. 

The first stop is a tour and tasting at a traditional winery carefully selected by Julieta. This winery is a small-scale affair and remains in the hands of the original family. You will enjoy a personalized tour joint-hosted by Julieta and a wine expert from the estate, learning about the production methods and hearing about how the oenologists blend their latest releases. 

The second stop is an independent olive oil producer, where you’ll tour the facilities and learn how cold-pressed oils are made. This includes a tasting with freshly-baked bread and local seasonings before sitting down to enjoy a light lunch fashioned from seasonal and local ingredients. 

This immersive experience brings together three locally cherished products—wine, olive oil, and bread—that each tell a story about Mendoza’s landscape and culture. From lively musical bands to whimsical soapbox races with creatively disguised vehicles, the Carnival invites participation, ignites joy, and embraces togetherness. After a traditional lunch, you'll be guided by a local expert photographer along this journey of cultural immersion and artistic exploration.

This experience is very exclusive: Led by the official photographer of the event, Gianmario Pedroni, you will be able to access special areas closed to the public to see and photograph the parade up-close. As the son of a local float constructor, Gianmario shares insight into behind-the-scenes stories of the artisans and their work. Starting the tour at his studio allows you to see his previous works.

After honing his skills in England, he specialized in advertising, fashion, and design, working with prominent photographers and brands. In 2009, he returned to Sardinia to establish his studio, where he captures the region's breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. As the son of a float constructor, Gianmario has always been closely involved in the creation of the floats and continues to collaborate in their construction. 

This full-day experience immerses you in the Atacama's most dramatic scenery: its geysers, high-altitude wetlands, and volcanic highlands. Unlike most tours to El Tatio (Los Géisers del Tatio) which depart before dawn, Valeria's experience takes place once the crowds have thinned and the late-morning light draws out the remarkable hues of the minerals. A naturalist guide with a keen knowledge of geology, Valeria dives deep into this phenomenal region of geysers, fumaroles, and mud pools before leading you on a gentle hike (at 4,200 m.a.s.l.).

The excursion continues at the rarely-visited Río Blanco Wetland (Humedal de Río Blanco). Fed by a river carrying meltwater from the Andes, this green corridor — popular with vicuñas and flamingoes — is a shock amid the arid landscape and a particular delight for wildlife lovers. As you make your way back down to San Pedro, you will call at the Machuca and Putana wetlands and reflect on these diverse ecosystems in the Atacama Northern Highlands.

Everyone knows about the Tatio Geysers, and everyone wishes to witness the world's highest geothermal field as part of their Altiplano safari. But Valeria's experience goes beyond the typical sightseeing tour; she's taking you off-piste and showing you there's more than vapor. Arriving after the sunrise show, you are able to appreciate the colors of the mineral deposits, the bubbling mud pools, and the geyser vents, which are tricky to see in the low light of dawn. After wandering around the main geothermal system, Valeria will guide you to a lesser-known mud geyser. Star Gazing in Atacama

Australia

Kakadu National Park is half the size of Switzerland and a real adventure. If you rent a car, you could drive along the road for weeks, camping in different places and experiencing nature in a way you can't anywhere else.

After leaving Darwin in a rented 4x4 jeep, we made the long drive to Kakadu National Park. Take plenty of drinks and snacks with you, as there aren't many stops on the road. Along the way, we visited several refreshing waterholes and waterfalls, had an open-air barbecue, and saw many birds, snakes, anthills, and farmland along the way.

At night we mostly stayed at campsites that provided tents, and the beauty of the night is incomparable. You can hear, smell, and see countless species of animals, from alligators swimming in lakes at night to dingoes howling, to weirdly chirping insects.

We hiked to a hidden waterfall and discovered some hundreds-of-years-old wooden paintings done by the ancestors of Australia's indigenous people. A must-see in Australia for sure!

Camping: Kakadu National Park

Hidden beneath the streets of Naples, the Galleria Borbonica is an underground tunnel system with a fascinating history dating back to the 19th century. Originally commissioned by King Ferdinand II of Bourbon as an escape route from the Royal Palace, the tunnels later served as a bomb shelter during World War II and a storage site for abandoned vehicles and artifacts. Today, visitors can explore this forgotten world beneath the city, where history, mystery, and engineering marvels come together.

1. A network of tunnels and cisterns reveals hidden passageways, aqueducts, and remnants of the city's ancient underground water system, once vital for Naples’ survival.

2. A collection of vintage cars and motorcycles remains abandoned in the tunnels, covered in dust and history, offering an eerie yet fascinating glimpse into mid-20th-century Naples.

Tips for Visiting
The best way to explore is through a guided tour, available in multiple languages. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended, as the terrain can be uneven. Bringing a light jacket is advised, as the tunnels remain cool year-round. Booking in advance is highly recommended, as tours often sell out quickly.

How Not to be Templed Out.

Pick out the must-see’s in the mini-circuit (Bayon, Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm in that order), then pick two temples in the grand-circuit (Preah Khan and Pre-Rup are my favorites), and one that requires a car (Banteay Srei or Beng Melea). 

Add some climbing at dawn - at Phnom Krom and Phnom Bakheng - as the sunrises here will sustain you for a whole year of waking up late. 

Pace yourself over three to four days.

Temples and Temples

İzmir Bird Paradise, also known as Kuş Cenneti, is a protected wetland and bird sanctuary home to over 200 bird species. Its marshes and observation towers make it an ideal destination for birdwatchers and nature photographers seeking a glimpse of rare and migratory birds.
1. The sanctuary is rich in birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans, and herons.
2. Seasonal migrations make it possible to spot rare bird species throughout the year.
3. Walking paths allow visitors to explore the wetlands without disturbing the wildlife.
4. Observation towers provide excellent views and opportunities for birdwatching.
5. It is a paradise for photographers, with vibrant bird species and scenic wetlands.
Visitor Tip: Bring binoculars for a closer view of the birds and visit during spring or autumn for the best sightings.

İzmir Bird Paradise

Yves Saint Laurent gifted Jardin Majorelle to Marrakech, the city that adopted him and his partner in the 60s. They bought an electric-blue villa and its garden, preserved the vision of its original owner (landscape painter Jacques Majorelle), and opened it to the public. 

What makes this feel like a psychedelic mirage in the desert?

Hot pink bougainvillea bursting from terracotta planters. Architectural cacti in lemon-yellow planters. Bamboos growing against cobalt-blue walls. Colorful birds flitting through palm trees. Saint Laurent’s gorgeous collection of Moroccan art, that I totally covet. 

It also has a museum that features jewelry in a setting that our guide Khadija keeps referring to as “a dream”. A dark room with a star-spangled ceiling and low voltage spotlights shining on stunning jewelry sets.

Khadija’s right. Please let all my dreams be like this place.

Psychedelic Mirage

All my life, I called it |trom-sow|, but the locals insist on |troom-sa|. 

The drive through Andøya and Senja was so spectacular that we wanted to abandon our itinerary and stay on the islands overnight vs. driving into Tromsø. And then I would have missed a dramatic sunset/dawn. Everything - sky, sea, windows on buildings, Arctic Church, mountain tops - blazed fiery red for an hour before turning into several shades of blue, with bright pink thrown in for effect. It stayed like that all night long. 

The locals can’t seem to stop partying through Friday night all along Storgata, so the people-watching is riveting. We’ve got to sleep at some point, we kept telling each other.

Rome’s Power Plant to Museum

The Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, a mesmerizing protected coastal lagoon in Portugal’s Algarve region, is one of the country’s richest natural habitats. Known for its intricate network of islands, sandy beaches, salt marshes, and tidal flats, this nature park is a haven for biodiversity and a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Spanning around 170 square kilometers, it is home to a variety of bird species, unique plants, and marine life, making it an ideal destination for exploration, whether by foot or by boat.

Highlights of a Visit to Parque Natural da Ria Formosa:

1. Visit the uninhabited island, also known as Ilha da Barreta, which offers pristine beaches and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s ideal for those seeking solitude and scenic views of the Atlantic, and you can explore the soft sands, swim in clear waters, or walk along nature trails that lead to panoramic viewpoints.
