Kicking off on Thursday February 12, the Carnival festivities begin with the grand Presentation Parade of Re Giorgio and his court. Hundreds of participants don elaborate costumes, while dazzling allegorical floats showcase puppets that seamlessly blend satire and artistry. These floats are true works of art, the culmination of months of dedicated craftsmanship by skilled papier-mâché artisans.

From lively musical bands to whimsical soapbox races with creatively disguised vehicles, the Carnival invites participation, ignites joy, and embraces togetherness. After a traditional lunch, you'll be guided by a local expert photographer along this journey of cultural immersion and artistic exploration.

This experience is very exclusive: Led by the official photographer of the event, Gianmario Pedroni, you will be able to access special areas closed to the public to see and photograph the parade up-close. As the son of a local float constructor, Gianmario shares insight into behind-the-scenes stories of the artisans and their work. Starting the tour at his studio allows you to see his previous works.

The Carrasciali Timpiesu stands out as a unique celebration, characterized by its genuine inclusivity of everyone—children to elders, locals and visitors. Gianmario Pedroni is the official photographer of the Carnevale of Tempio Pausania. After honing his skills in England, he specialized in advertising, fashion, and design, working with prominent photographers and brands. In 2009, he returned to Sardinia to establish his studio, where he captures the region's breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. As the son of a float constructor, Gianmario has always been closely involved in the creation of the floats and continues to collaborate in their construction. 

Chile

After a picnic lunch in a park near the mosaics of Puente Alto, you will travel to the Universidad de Chile metro station which houses the mosaic, "Alas de Amistad". 

Inaugurated in 2024, this mural celebrates the bicentennial of friendship between the United States and Chile. It was a collaboration with the United States Embassy in Chile. As one of the co-artistic directors, Shannon will reveal how it came to be and talk you through the symbolism. 

This is a great opportunity to take photos.

Our tour of the Puente Alto mosaics is now complete. Now we will take our van to the Universidad de Chile metro station which houses the “Alas de Amistad” mural for which Shannon was one of the co-artistic directors.

We will stop and admire the mosaic on the front of the Municipality Building of Puente Alto. This is where Shannon participated in an international mosaic event in 2014. This was organized by the artist Isidora Paz Lopez – the same artist who organized the rest of the project we have viewed. Nearby, we also have the opportunity to view the spectacular mosaics at the end of Puente Alto’s monumental metro project.

Shannon McEvoy participated in the mosaic installations on the Municipality Building in Puente Alto in a two-week international invitational event in 2014. Due to Shannon’s first-hand experience, this part of the tour is where you will hear some of the most in-depth stories behind the mural process.

Municipality of Puente Alto 

Our first stop is near the first metro station in Puente Alto. From here, we will follow the route of the metro line from the outside. Along the way, we will admire a total of 4 metro stations and 84 monumental pillars adorned with the beautiful mosaics of Isidora Paz Lopez and her team from the 2014 intervention. 

Covering over 4,000 square meters, this project is considered the largest mosaic intervention in Latin America and the third largest in the world. We will walk at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to take photos. Water, electrolytes, and snacks will be provided for the walk.  

Our mosaic trek concludes at the Municipality Building of Puente Alto.  

Shannon McEvoy participated in some of the mosaic installations in Puente Alto and is knowledgeable about the others. Her walking tour focuses on the stories behind the murals: how artists collaborate and what public art represents to a local community and the overall identity of a city.

Originally from Minnesota, multimedia artist Shannon McEvoy studied in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. Inspired by the street art of Valparaíso, she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and later became a muralist herself.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—though her talents extend far beyond. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography. As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.

Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

Your journey begins at the Monumental Complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore, one of Naples’ most significant archaeological sites. This gourmet walking tour is divided into seven tasty segments. To conclude your trip to Concon, Marcela will recommend local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile" where you can stop for lunch or dinner. 

The experience provides rare access to the studio of a professional Chilean artist. Marcela's portfolio spans lithography, painting, and folk art and she will share rich insight into Chile's artisanal legacy and culture while you create.

Marcela's studio is attached to her home above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concon, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This area is rarely visited by international tourists which means you get to experience a truly local community. 

In terms of inspiration, you only need glance outside where dunes tumble to meet the waves of the Pacific and seals cling to rocky crags. This residential neighborhood is alive with flora and avifauna. Marcela is well-versed in Chilean mythology and has further visual prompts to unleash your creativity. 

Refreshments and local pastries are provided. If you're lucky, you may even get to sample the famous "pancito amasado" bread baked by Marcela's father, a retired lighthouse keeper.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist. Born in 1965, Marcela grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis, USA, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at Casa Plan in Valparaíso.

Santorini in Quiet Rhythm

3 days in Santorini with Aegean coast swims, Greek cooking, winery visits and a sunset boat tour.

Fruity, dry, red, white, sweet, sparkling — wine is delicious, and the best way to discover what this powerful potion has to offer is to take a bike tour through the vineyards (yes, on a bike). Mendoza is the best place to choose one of the hundreds of tour operators. 

Mendoza is the most popular wine-growing province in Argentina. And Bodega Tempus Alba has a perfect climate for growing high-quality grapes, and the majestic Andes Mountains provide the backdrop for some of the most beautiful pictures of vineyards to be found anywhere in the world.

Whether you're biking or not, a proper tasting tour will give you enough wine to come home tipsy. That's why I recommend eating well before your tour and taking a break when the magic of wine goes to your head.

I also spent some time hiking in the area, exploring the small villages in the area, and eating the best Argentine empanadas around. A trip for the senses, for sure.

3. The maze-like alleys are perfect for leisurely exploration, with each turn revealing hidden courtyards, colorful flowers, and local charm. 
4. The neighborhood is almost car-free, creating a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy the gentle hum of daily life and occasional melodies of traditional Greek music. 
5. Anafiotika’s location makes it an ideal starting point or detour for visitors heading to the iconic Acropolis.

Stretching for over 750 km (466 miles), these well-marked trails pass through stunning cliffs, wild beaches, rolling sand dunes, and charming fishing villages, making it one of Europe’s most breathtaking long-distance walking routes. The Rota Vicentina is divided into two main paths: the Fishermen’s Trail, which hugs the dramatic coastline, and the Historical Way, which winds through cork forests, rural farmland, and traditional villages.
