This hands-on craft experience is hosted a kintsugi artisan, Satoko, who has been teaching the art and philosophy of this traditional Japanese technique in Kyoto for several years.

The workshop begins with a relaxing tea time, during which you'll be able to get to know your host and learn about her background in kintsugi. From there, you'll learn the history and aesthetics of kintsugi while handling finished pieces created by your host. As you admire the gold-lined cracks, Satoko will walk you through each step of the process and introduce the traditional tools and materials you’ll use — including some that you’ll prepare by hand.

Then, it’s time to practice. You’ll repair a broken ceramic piece using lacquer and real gold powder — that draws the eye to the details. Throughout the session, your hosts offer individual guidance to ensure your piece becomes a personal and beautiful expression of this philosophy.

Set in a private room in a Kyoto restaurant, this experience is completely private for you to enjoy the traditional kintsugi process. Your host has extensive experience as a kintsugi artisan and is a dedicated teacher who has introduced international guests to kintsugi through years of patient, thoughtful instruction.

She regards kintsugi as a philosophy — a poetic expression of imperfection and renewal. Today, she is delighted to share it not only as a craft, but as l'art de vivre (the art of living).

Satoko emphasizes traditional kintsugi — using natural urushi lacquer, patient curing times, and deliberate methods rather than shortcuts — to offer students an authentic, slow, and deeply rewarding experience. In this workshop, she ensures you work with thoughtfully prepared materials and receive guidance at every stage. Your finished piece will reflect the beauty and resilience found in restoration.

This experience invites you to step into a lesser-known Rome on a storytelling walk designed for curious minds. Starting from Piazza Venezia, you’ll explore what lies behind the imposing façade of the Vittoriano—layers of Italian history often overlooked in plain sight.

From there, you’ll weave through quiet alleys, hidden churches, and forgotten corners, where masterpieces by Caravaggio, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Bernini remain in the very places they were created for. You’ll meet Chiara in front of the grand staircase of the Vittoriano, the large white monument in Piazza Venezia.

Chiara was born and raised in Trastevere, in the heart of Rome, where her passion for hidden stories and art began early. She studied Ancient Greek and Art History in Berlin, then returned to Rome to complete a Master’s degree focused on Renaissance art and restoration. For the past eight years, she has been guiding travelers through the city she knows intimately, blending history, art, and storytelling to reveal the layers of Rome most people miss.

This private workshop offers hands-on access to one of Spain’s oldest and most iconic ceramic workshops: the Fajalauza factory. Founded in 1517 and still operated by the Morales family, Fajalauza has been shaping the visual identity of Granada for over 500 years.

You’ll begin with a private tour through its original production site and museum—home to ancient kilns, hand-thrown molds, and decorative pieces that reflect the fusion of Islamic and European styles. As you explore, you’ll learn how Granada’s ceramic language evolved across centuries, adapting to dynasties and shifting cultural forces while staying rooted in the local soil.

Then comes your own initiation into the craft. Guided by master artisans, you’ll sit at the potter’s wheel for a “baptism of clay,” shaping a vessel from scratch. The session includes Andalusian tapas and a drink, served on-site. Your finished piece will be fired and available for pickup in a week, or can be shipped to you for a supplementary fee.

This private, rare-access workshop lets you go behind the scenes of Fajalauza—Granada’s most iconic ceramic tradition, practiced since 1517. Run by the Morales family for generations, this factory is the last of its kind still producing glazed and hand-painted pottery using methods rooted in Islamic and Mozarab craftsmanship.

Fajalauza ceramics have decorated homes, marked street names and even replaced damaged tiles in the Alhambra’s Patio de los Arrayanes. Its signature green and blue motifs—vines, birds, heraldic emblems—speak to a style that has endured conquest and mass production. This is truly a living heritage that has nearly vanished elsewhere. 

The factory/studio are typically closed to the public, and your access is part of a broader effort to protect and pass on this legacy. Here, with the Morales team, you’ll take part in a 500-year-old practice—shaped by continuity, as you creating your own ceramic piece: a cup or bowl. The Fundación Fajalauza now works to safeguard the historic site, protect traditional methods, and share the knowledge held by the last generation of master artisans.

Toledo is one of Spain’s most historically significant cities, with roots dating back to a pre-Roman settlement. It was once the capital of Spain and remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site today. Over the centuries, it became known as the City of Tolerance—or the City of Three Cultures—due to the coexistence and influence of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities.

This private walking tour begins with a panoramic car tour of the city, followed by visits to monuments that bring Toledo’s layered history to life. Then hop into a dolmuş (mini-bus) to reach Çengelköy, a waterfront village known for its pickled cucumbers, tea gardens, and hillside lanes. From there, head to Kuzguncuk, where wooden houses lean into each other and synagogues sit beside churches. Chile

This adventurous hike is a 5km (3 mile) circuit (moderate difficulty) in the canyons of Atacama Desert's Salt Mountain Range (Cordillera de la Sal). A 50-minute drive delivers you amid this wilderness area beyond highly-trafficked Moon Valley. While the scenery is comparable with those Martian landscapes, this trek sits off the radar and cultivates a deeper connection with this remote region in northern Chile. Guided by Valeria, a naturalist and conservationist, you'll be urged to absorb the stunning nature and geology—and study 1000-year-old petroglyphs.
 
Bear in mind this excursion is suitable only for those with a decent level of fitness and physical mobility. The route involves one steep descent with loose terrain, a few river crossings, and wading through the cold-water river in the slot canyon. Hiking poles are provided and you'll need to rely on your hands for rocky obstacles. Typically taking 3.5 hours to complete the loop, Valeria will pace the trek to suit your capabilities.

Hiking in the world's driest non-polar desert at a 2,500 m.a.s.l. is no walk in the park! It is, however, the quest of a lifetime—and it's made all the better when you have a local naturalist handling the route, keeping you safe, and sharing intricate information about the ecosystem and its communities. Along the course of this moderate hike, Valeria will pause to educate you on the slot canyon and share insight on the region's wildlife—you may even encounter native and migratory birds.

After taking in the Andes and the dunes of the Salt Mountain Range from afar, you'll descend into the canyon and let the Rio Grande guide the way. This eventually turns into a stunning slot canyon which you'll pass by wading through the river (depth ranges from ankle to hips level)—it's the perfect antidote to those scorching summer temperatures. After meeting the salty confluence of the Rio Grande and Rio Salado, you'll gaze upon petroglyphs carved by Indigenous people around 1000 years ago.

For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.

Tips for Visiting
The best time to visit is spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) for mild weather and clear hiking conditions. Wearing sturdy hiking boots is essential, as the terrain can be rocky and steep. Hiring a local guide enhances the experience, especially for longer treks. Staying in a Berber guesthouse offers an authentic cultural experience, and packing warm layers is important, as temperatures drop at higher altitudes.

Imlil Village & Hiking Trails

Australia

The best thing about visiting Australia is that scenic views and spectacular nature are just a stone's throw away, no matter where you are. If you're in Sydney, you won't get a better view of the ocean than walking through Royal National Park and taking Bundeena Drive to Marley Walk.

Passing through scenic heathland with small trees, you'll soon come to a bushwalk through a denser forest. We saw many native bird species, including the famous cockatoo, had a dip in one of the pools along the way, and took stunning sunset photos as you look out over the wild ocean. The tourist highlight is Wedding Cake Rock, but our personal star was Marley Beach, a dreamy, hidden sandy beach where you can relax and dip your feet in the refreshing water.

You can rent a car and drive directly to Bundeena, but we decided to take the train from Sydney to Cronulla and from there take the ferry to Bundeena.

Ortaköy, one of Istanbul’s most picturesque neighborhoods, is a lively hub of culture, history, and stunning waterfront views. Portugal’s Marvão Castle, perched atop the Serra de São Mamede at 860 meters (2,821 feet) above sea level, offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in Portugal. Located near the Spanish border in the Alentejo region, this medieval fortress was a key defensive stronghold, guarding the frontier for centuries. With its well-preserved walls, cobbled streets, and sweeping vistas, Marvão is a must-visit for history lovers and photographers seeking a true hidden gem.

Karathona Beach

The Vasari Corridor, an elevated kilometer-long passageway, is a symbol of the Medici family's influence in Renaissance Florence. Commissioned by Cosimo de' Medici in 1565, this corridor connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace, offering a unique journey through Florence's history, art, and architecture. Top 5 reasons to take this stroll:
1 - Designed by Giorgio Vasari, the corridor was constructed to allow the Medici family to move freely and safely between their residence in Palazzo Pitti and the government headquarters in Palazzo Vecchio. This architectural marvel, completed in just five months, includes small windows overlooking the streets and the Arno River. 

2 - As you walk through the corridor, you are surrounded by an exquisite collection of artwork, mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries, including a unique collection of artists' self-portraits. This collection, one of the most complete in Europe, was started by Cardinal Leopoldo de' Medici in the 17th century. 

3 - The corridor has witnessed both tragic and triumphant moments in Florence's history. San Spiridione Church is a testament to the city's multiculturalism. This magnificent Serbian Orthodox church, dedicated to Saint Spyridon, a Greek Cypriot saint, showcases a splendid Byzantine style that dates back to 1869, reflecting the city's unique position at the crossroads of Europe's major ethnic and religious communities. 1 - The church's striking appearance, with its multi-domed structure, captures the essence of Byzantine architecture. Constructed from pearly white Istrian stone, the large central dome is flanked by four hemispherical cupolas. The front façade is adorned with nine statues by Milanese artist Emilio Bisi, each contributing to the church's grandeur and artistic significance.
2 - The interior of San Spiridione is a realm of tranquility and beauty. The iconostasis, adorned with mid-nineteenth-century icons painted in Moscow and later covered in pure silver and gold plate, signifies the church's historical and spiritual depth. 
3 - Highlights include a votive vigil lamp gifted by Paul I of Russia, a stunning crucifixion at the altar, and a shroud made in 1772 in gold embroidery on silk velvet canvas.
