Florencia Campos Correa, or Flor, is a Chilean-Spanish textile designer and author based in Santiago. Her business, Ullvuna, is dedicated to portable pin loom weaving kits which are available globally. Much of Flor's inspiration comes from her passion and appreciation for Chilean culture and people. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers. 

Portugal

The city of Iwatsuki, just outside of Tokyo, is one of Japan's major centers for Ningyo doll production. Much more than simple toys, the dolls are celebrated as works of arts created by master artisans preserving an important aspect of Japanese heritage. Your guide, Hiro, will introduce you to the world of Japanese dolls starting with a curated tour of a doll museum, where he will explain the history of ningyo dolls and their production process. 

After the museum, you'll enjoy lunch at a long-established traditional Japanese restaurant before heading to the Ifuji Ningyo Shop, where you will learn the traditional technique of "kimekomi," pressing fabric into grooves carved in the doll's body to create clothing. Your teacher will be a master artisan who has been maintaining the craft as part of many generations of craftspeople in Iwatsuki. Take your work home with you as a special souvenir.

Finally, you'll visit a local doll shop for more up-close viewing and shopping for ningyo dolls.

This private, 4-hour ceramics experience invites you to create a decorative piece while enjoying a few glasses of wine and empanadas. Mendoza is as celebrated for its thriving arts community as it is for its world-renowned Malbec wines. This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”

San Spiridione Church is a testament to the city's multiculturalism. This magnificent Serbian Orthodox church, dedicated to Saint Spyridon, a Greek Cypriot saint, showcases a splendid Byzantine style that dates back to 1869, reflecting the city's unique position at the crossroads of Europe's major ethnic and religious communities. Top highlights:
1 - The church's striking appearance, with its multi-domed structure, captures the essence of Byzantine architecture. Constructed from pearly white Istrian stone, the large central dome is flanked by four hemispherical cupolas. The front façade is adorned with nine statues by Milanese artist Emilio Bisi, each contributing to the church's grandeur and artistic significance.
2 - The interior of San Spiridione is a realm of tranquility and beauty. The iconostasis, adorned with mid-nineteenth-century icons painted in Moscow and later covered in pure silver and gold plate, signifies the church's historical and spiritual depth. 
3 - Highlights include a votive vigil lamp gifted by Paul I of Russia, a stunning crucifixion at the altar, and a shroud made in 1772 in gold embroidery on silk velvet canvas. Look for candleholders donated by Risto Škuljević, a ship owner and philanthropist, and numerous other items of significant religious, historical, and artistic importance.

The perfect way to view the red pumice layers of Santorini is to walk from Oia to Ammoudi. Just 214 steps down, the going down part was easy since the reward is a meal at one of Ammoudi’s legendary fish tavernas by the sea.

We buy fresh seafood by weight - the classic order of octopus and calamari along with some fish -  and it’s grilled right then and there. The sights and smells of the sea are so familiar and similar - whether in this hidden Santorini cove or at home in San Francisco.
