This half-day experience takes you to one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world: Ephesus. Walk the main street, once lined with shops and fountains, and stop at Celsus Library — built in 2nd century CE to honor a Roman governor and to house 12,000 scrolls. The route passes the Great Theatre, capable of seating 24,000 spectators. 

At the Terrace Houses, step into elite Roman homes: mosaic floors, frescoed walls, private baths, even graffiti — names, accounts, shopping lists etched into plaster.

Then drive to the House of the Virgin Mary, 6th-century chapel perched on Mount Koressos. Believed to be built over earlier foundations, the site has drawn pilgrims for centuries and was visited by three popes.

Mexico

This is a nighttime photographic walk through one of Oaxaca’s cemeteries during Día de Muertos—a chance to document the light and devotion that fill these sacred spaces once the sun has gone.

You meet Paco, your local photographer-guide, at 8 PM and walk to the cemetary, one that Paco has chosen with intention. Candles flicker, marigolds glow, and the scent of copal rises. Paco briefs you on the etiquette of photographing the celebration: when to step back, when to ask, when to simply observe.

Inside, you move among pathways lined with altars of flowers, bread, mezcal, and photographs. You focus not on faces but on the gestures — hands lighting candles, petals being arranged, smoke drifting through light. Paco guides your exposure, composition, and rhythm so your images capture atmosphere without intrusion.

You finish around 10:30 PM, reviewing your final shots outside the gates over a cup of atole or hot chocolate, the night still humming with memory.

The village offers a last chance to pick up essentials, but also a first chance to experience the rhythm of the region—through its homes, people, and landscape.

On your final morning, you’ll likely rise early—if you do, step outside to see Mount Toubkal lit by sunrise, a quiet reminder of where you’ve just been. After a warm, local breakfast, you’ll make the gentle descent back to Imlil, retracing familiar trails through the valley. Once in Imlil, you can pause to rest or meet your driver for the return to Marrakesh (organize the return trip with your Marrakesh home, it's not included in this experience). 

This closing stretch offers a soft, thoughtful end to your journey. The morning light, a simple and tasty Berber breakfast, and the familiar rhythm of the trail give you time to reflect. If you’re heading back to Marrakesh, please organize with your hotel to pick you up in Imlil. It’s a smooth return—both physically and mentally—from the mountains to the city.

Summit day begins before sunrise with a steady, demanding ascent from the refuge to the top of Mount Toubkal, which rises to 4,167 meters—the highest point in North Africa. The trail is rocky and steep, but manageable with good fitness. At the summit, you’ll stand above the High Atlas, with sweeping views over the Marrakech plains and, on clear mornings, the edge of the Sahara.

What sets this summit apart isn’t just the altitude—it’s how you get there. The pace is measured, your body is acclimatized, and you’re supported by a guide who knows these mountains intimately. After the summit climb in the early morning, you’ll make a gradual descent down to the village of Aremd. You’ll arrive by the afternoon—early enough to rest, recover, and take in the views of the mountain you just climbed. You’ll stay the night in a simple and rustic but comfortable Berber guesthouse, with a private room/double/family room with a member of your party (based on your preference), each with its own ensuite bathroom. These are simple and modest, comfortable and safe lodgings. 

This final night gives you space to absorb the full experience. From the guesthouse terrace, you’ll see Toubkal from below—quiet and distant now. You’ll have a chance to walk through the village, meet local residents, and maybe visit the village hammam. Dinner is a warm, home-cooked meal—flavorful, generous, and made from local ingredients. The pace is slower, the conversation flows, and your connection to this landscape deepens in a quieter, more personal way.

Descent & Berber Village Stay

After a full day of ascent, you’ll reach the Toubkal Refuge—your base at 3,200 meters before summit day. You’ll break for a picnic lunch en route or stop for a warm meal in a Berber home, then continue to the refuge. Here, you’ll settle into a private/double room, depending on the group's needs (please share this with Ahmed after booking), and enjoy a proper dinner to refuel and acclimatize for the climb ahead.

Most trekkers sleep in dorm-style bunk rooms with shared bathrooms at the Toubkal Refuge, often alongside 10–20 others—conditions that don’t support privacy, comfort, or restful sleep. In contrast, this experience includes a private / double room shared only within your group, based on your preference, each with an ensuite bathroom. It’s a quieter, more restorative way to spend the night at altitude. Keep in mind, however, that these are simple and modest rooms. In rare situations when all private rooms are booked out, Ahmed will arrange private/double tents for your party -- these are comfortable, safe and provide a peaceful night's sleep (in this case, the bathrooms at the refuge will be used.)

Meals are freshly prepared and more generous than the standard dorm fare, with a focus on nourishment and recovery.

Secret Vineyard

This is where the tour starts and ends. Burano is a charming and colorful island in the Venetian Lagoon, known for its brightly painted houses and long-standing tradition of lace-making. Located about 7 kilometers from Venice, a 25 minute water taxi (to be arranged via your Venice hotel) or a 40-minute vaporetto (water bus) ride can transport you to this picturesque locale from Venice. Historically, Burano was a fishing village, and this heritage is evident in its culture and cuisine, with seafood being a prominent feature in local dishes.  You can also stay overnight at Venissa or Casa Burano. It's amazing to wake up early on the island before the tourists get here and wander around.

If staying overnight in Burano or Mazzorbo (Venissa or Casa Burano), it's a short walk. 

One of the most striking aspects of Burano is the vibrancy of its buildings. The houses, painted in a rainbow of colors, line the island's canals and streets, creating a cheerful and photogenic environment. This tradition of painting homes in bright hues dates back centuries and was originally thought to help fishermen find their way home in the dense fog that can envelop the lagoon.

This is a scenic day hike across the Kik Plateau, perched at approximately 1,800 meters in the High Atlas Mountains. The trek offers sweeping views over terraced farmland, Lake Takerkoust, and distant peaks, including Mount Toubkal. 

Starting from Asni, the route winds through traditional Berber villages built from earth and stone, where daily life continues much as it has for generations. Along the way, you’ll stop for tea with a local family and enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the plateau, surrounded by olive groves and open sky.

This hike is ideal for those who’ve already seen the classic Atlas mountain routes and want to explore the landscape further while engaging with the local communities. 

The walk takes 5-6 hours with stops and is best done in spring or autumn, when the plateau is green and the light is sharp. Though not technically difficult, there are some steady inclines and exposed terrain, so good walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.

The Kik Plateau offers an expansive, open landscape that contrasts with the steeper, more rugged trails of the central High Atlas. Its distinctive limestone outcroppings and gently undulating terrain give you a different kind of hiking experience—one defined by wide horizons and silence. You’ll begin at one of the city’s most iconic landmarks: Plaza de España, built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition and known for its grand semi-circular design, bridges, canal, arcades, and vividly painted azulejos. From there, the session continues into María Luisa Park, where shaded paths, fountains, and hidden corners offer a quieter counterpoint. This is the backdrop for a photoshoot and video session through which you’ll forever remember your trip to Seville. 

Rather than focusing on posed images, Paco captures natural moments and genuine interaction, using both the monumental, cinematic architecture of the plaza and the softer atmosphere of the park as the setting. A few days later, he will send you a folder with around 10 edited photographs and a short film of 30 seconds to 1 minute.

This experience brings you to two distinct, iconic settings central to how Seville is seen and felt. The experience is an immersion into sea silk (byssus) and traditional weaving practices, guided by textile artist Arianna Pintus. You learn what byssus is, why it is so rare, and how it is woven through a careful, patient process. The setting is intentionally intimate and quiet: not a “show,” but a respectful approach to a material that asks for presence.

Alongside byssus, Arianna also shares her work with linen, creating a dialogue between natural elements. You leave with a deeper understanding of what “slow making” truly means and with the sense of having touched a fragile, precious thread of Sardinia’s living heritage.

Getting there on a little ferry tossed around on the surging Atlantic Ocean needs courage. As the boat uses all her resources to maneuver into a tight, rocky harbor, I wonder if the captain, who does this twice a day, is either extremely brave or completely suicidal. We step on to what looks like the sets of a Disney fantasy movie. Twenty colorful grass-roofed homes, one little schoolhouse - which has one child - and a bridge over the Atlantic.

I meet my guide Harald - a septuagenarian with poise to rival the curious sheep we see hanging precariously over the cliffs. Harald leads our little group on a 4-hour hike across the island to the lighthouse at the westernmost point of the Faroes.

Birds are everywhere - puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes, gannets - on the green hills, riding the ocean waves, occupying every inch of cliff space, filling the air with their calls, and circling the sky.

Amfissa, Greece, is home to the Lion of Bavaria Monument, a lesser-known but historically significant statue that commemorates the close ties between Greece and Bavaria in the 19th century. Erected in 1836 by order of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, the monument honors the Bavarian soldiers who accompanied King Otto, the first modern king of Greece, following the country’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. Each evening, we wait for sunset to happen ... in fact the whole town stops whatever they are doing and gathers near the edges of the cliffs In Oia. 

It’s a ritual that we quickly make our own. We time our dinner, walks and activities so that we can get a prime seat to watch the performance. On the odd day that we miss it ... being on the wrong side of the caldera ... we feel we’ve missed a significant event in our day.

The setting sun can look rather different in a cloudless sky. Santorini rarely has a cloud. Maybe one every two days ... making the sunset even more glorious. Flaws build character.
