Part II : Engaging (45-60 minutes)
Be guided alongside with a curator through the presentation of the gallery and the current exhibitions, introducing the artists and explaining their works, techniques and messages, while answering any questions you might have about artistic, cultural and historical matters. This is a 4.5-hour walking tour that showcases Milan's enduring artistic heritage. The tour begins with a visit to the stunningly preserved and often overlooked Ca' Granda, originally a major hospital and now home to Milan’s University. Commissioned by Duke Francesco Sforza in 1456 and designed by architect Filarete, its avant-garde design became a model for European hospitals. Despite wartime damages, its fifteenth-century courtyards and rebuilt eighteenth-century facade remain breathtaking. The tour includes the library and the icehouse. Your day begins where power once concentrated: the grounds of Edo Castle, now part of the Imperial Palace East Gardens. This was the seat of the Tokugawa shogunate, which ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. As you walk past stone foundations, reconstructed gates, and broad moats, your guide introduces you to the fascinating story of Edo — how a small fishing village became the political center of Japan.

The gardens, paths and walls are part of the city’s origin story. The Ninomaru Garden, restored in classical style, contrasts with the modern skyline just beyond the trees. You’ll also learn how the transition from Edo to Tokyo began right here, when power shifted from shoguns to emperors.

This first stop sets the tone for the day: the present city layered on top of the past, often literally.

Asakusa was the cultural heart of the Late Edo Period, and Senso-ji - Tokyo’s oldest temple - was its spiritual anchor. You’ll walk down Nakamise-dori, a shopping street that has served pilgrims for centuries, before arriving at the main temple complex.

This park irepresents a national pivot: the moment Japan declared its place on the world stage. From bronze statues to tiled museum facades, this is Tokyo in the act of reinvention. 

You’ll walk past key markers of Japan's modernization: the European-style National Museum buildings, wide boulevards meant for public gathering, and lingering shrines that resisted the push toward the new. Your guide will explain how this district became a showcase for Meiji ideals: education, public space, and blending tradition with imported forms. They will unpack the cultural tension embedded in this space - what Japan chose to adopt, adapt, or preserve. The resulting cultural hydribity is fascinating to explore.

The West Arrives in Ueno

After the formal landmarks of Ueno, you turn into the backstreets of Yanaka — one of the few neighborhoods in Tokyo that escaped the firebombing of World War II and the redevelopment that followed. The streets here are narrow, quiet, and residential, with shopfronts that haven’t changed in decades. 

You’ll begin with lunch at a local restaurant/cafe, chosen for its connection to the neighborhood. Then take a slow walk through the area: passing family-run stores, neighborhood shrines, and traditional homes. Your guide will introduce you to  daily life here, and how this district became a living archive of pre-war Tokyo — not through preservation but continuity.

Now you're in the Taisho / Eatly Showa period. Yanaka offers a rare sense of what the city looked and felt like before the skyline rose. You’ll see how small temples sit tucked between houses, how cats lounge outside old bookstores, how the same shops have served the same community for generations. Your guide will explain how this area has resisted the forces that reshaped the rest of the city — and what that says about Tokyo’s layered identity. Lunch is part of the story.

You'll begin with a view from the observation deck. Then your guide will lead you on a walk along the Sumida River promenade, where wooden boats once carried goods into the heart of Edo. This experience ends here for the perspective. You stand in the shadow of a tower designed for the future, built next to a river that once powered the capital. This portrait photography session makes you the main character on the stage of Buenos Aires. Curated by a professional travel photographer whose work has been published all over the world, you will leave the activity with impeccable images commemorating your time in the Argentine capital. Bernardo is a charming host who also peppers this experience with anecdotes about the locations covered, his career as a photographer, and Porteño life. 

Bernardo typically runs this experience in the La Boca neighborhood, where you will pose to an aesthetic backdrop of colorful tenement buildings and street art around Caminito. However, the location may be changed to another barrio such as Puerto Madero, Plaza de Mayo, or Palermo Soho. Bernardo uses a full frame mirrorless camera and pro lenses in order to achieve the maximum image quality. He also uses a professional flash lighting system with diffusers when the natural light isn’t sufficient.

This private photoshoot experience is hosted by a professional travel portrait photographer from Buenos Aires. Bernardo delights just as much in showing travelers around his home city as he does helping them to capture photographic mementos from their time in the Argentine capital. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. “In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”

Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

There are so many museums and art galleries in Paris that it's hard to decide where to go first. Most tourists want to stand in line at the Louvre, admire Claude Monet, or visit the National Museum of Art – but as so few check out the famous street art of Paris, we knew it was our thing to do.
There is so much history behind each piece of art or painting out there that it is worth investing some extra money and time to immerse yourself in Paris's artistic exploration fully. We did a whole self-organized art walk visiting 7 streets, with an audio tour, and visited the different places on our own (though you can get a personal guide). 
Our highlight was Rue Saint-Maur – a 2km-long street painted mainly by the artist Kashink. The artist plays with classic elements of Parisian street art and combines them with modern political messages.

In Oaxaca are so many different indigenous groups spread across numerous villages, and each of them is known for their unique works of art, from rugs to pottery, flowers, and paintings.

Street art in Oaxaca tells stories about Mexico, their struggles for independence and economic development, and against military dictatorship and US American influence. You can learn a lot from indigenous rights to natural disasters through street art in Oaxaca by walking through the streets and analyzing each mural.

Nestled between the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the vast Sahara, Agdz is a small yet historically rich town that serves as the gateway to the stunning Draa Valley. Once an important stop along the ancient trans-Saharan trade routes, this region is renowned for its lush palm groves, traditional kasbahs, and breathtaking desert landscapes. Whether you're drawn by history, nature, or photography, Agdz and the Draa Valley offer an unforgettable experience of southern Morocco’s beauty and heritage.

1. The Draa River winds through the valley, creating a striking contrast between the golden desert dunes and the lush greenery of date palm oases. It’s one of Morocco’s most picturesque landscapes.

2. A 17th-century fortress called Kasbah des Caïds stands in Agdz, offering visitors a glimpse into Morocco’s past with its beautifully preserved mudbrick architecture and panoramic rooftop views.

Staying in a traditional kasbah guesthouse offers an immersive experience, while a camera is a must to capture the stunning palm groves, kasbahs, and desert landscapes.

Loutro Village, accessible only by hiking or ferry, is a secluded coastal gem tucked into a tranquil bay on Crete’s southern coast. Known for its whitewashed buildings and turquoise waters, it offers a peaceful retreat away from the island’s busier areas.
1. The village is car-free, creating a serene and quiet atmosphere.
2. Its turquoise bays are perfect for swimming, kayaking, or relaxing on the shore.
3. Charming tavernas serve delicious fresh seafood and traditional Cretan dishes.
4. The surrounding hills offer excellent hiking trails with spectacular views.
5. Its untouched, laid-back charm makes it a favorite for those seeking solitude.

Loutro Village

Granada, Spain, is home to the Museo Cuevas del Sacromonte, an open-air museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into the traditional cave dwellings of the Sacromonte district. Nestled in the hills overlooking the Alhambra and the Darro Valley, this unique museum showcases the history, culture, and lifestyle of the Granada Gitano (Roma) community, who have lived in these caves for centuries. With breathtaking views, authentic cave interiors, and exhibits on flamenco, crafts, and daily life, this hidden gem provides an immersive cultural experience.

1. A series of preserved cave homes, furnished with traditional tools, ceramics, and textiles, illustrates how locals adapted to life in the rocky hillside.
