Gerasimos, Tina, and Stelios live in a traditional Greek farmhouse, and they are passionate about sharing their love for authentic Greek culture, regional cuisine, and the timeless art of handmade soap-making, following an old family recipe.

As the boat moves into the open lagoon, the lights of Sottomarina shimmer on the horizon. The sky darkens, the water mirrors the moon, and familiar places take on a different shape at night. Long-eared owls and little owls call from rooftops and trees, while night herons skim silently over the water, hunting in the dark. This after-dark outing is a rare chance to witness the southern Venetian Lagoon as locals do, from the water at night. Exploring Further: A walk along the causeway to San Sebastian Castle offers breathtaking views of the coastline and the city. Although the castle itself has been closed to tourists for some years, the walk remains a highlight.

The Navigli Canals, a system of interconnected waterways in and around Milan, date back to the Middle Ages. It’s Halloween time in Beacon Hill in Boston. After much consideration, I decide that I am too old to collect candy from my generous neighbors.

So I pick up my camera instead and wander through Boston’s most historic neighborhood to celebrate its annual Halloween tradition.

Since the 1970s, this is one day when the charming tree-lined streets of Beacon Hill get packed ..
 
.. with costumed pets and people, infants dressed as pumpkins to the elderly dressed in traditional witching gear.

Watch out for the brooms. 

I run into a friend dressed up as Jamie Lannister from the Game of Thrones, complete with chopped arm hanging around his neck.

There’s a dog dressed up as a skunk.

A house on Pinckney Street is showing black-and-white Dracula movies.

Beacon Hill has the perfect Halloween atmosphere with the wrought iron, cobblestones, narrow alleys and seriously all-out decoration.

The spectacular Mayan ruins of Tikal overrun by miles of  unspoiled jungle are extraordinarily rich in wildlife incl. the elusive jaguar. 🐆 

It’s one of the few UNESCO World Heritage sites that combines both cultural and natural richness and the 500+ sq km contains numerous remains of the Mayan civilization scattered across wetlands, savannah and tropical jungles teaming with birds and monkeys.

It was a thrilling experience to wander in a place that was one of the great cities of the world around 700 AD and wonder how people lived at that time. 

We went late afternoon to take advantage of the magical light falling on the structures and our guide, Daveed, was very helpful in highlighting the important sites and the life at that time. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the top of Temple IV. A perfect filming location for Yavin 4 in Star Wars.

After the sunset, we walked in the fading light to the spectacular Grand Plaza, relieved in Daveed’s assurance that the 🐆 is shy of humans.

Picturesque Rovinj Harbor

Mirador de la Cornisa is situated between the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid. This newly reopened viewpoint offers sweeping views of the western part of Madrid, including the Campo del Moro and Casa de Campo. The Mirador, which remained closed from 2007 to 2021 due to construction work, now serves as an entry point to the Royal Collections Gallery, set to open in the summer of 2023. Top highlights:
1. Historical Gates and Fence: The viewpoint is accessed through a centenary fence, originally from the Regency of María Cristina, mother of Alfonso XIII. Placed in 1899, the fence was designed by palace architect Enrique Repullés Segarra. It has recently been restored and repositioned, allowing more space for visitors to enjoy the views.
2. Panoramic Views of Western Madrid: From Mirador de la Cornisa, enjoy expansive views of Madrid's western landscape. The viewpoint overlooks the Campo del Moro and extends to the large wooded area of Casa de Campo, with the silhouette of the mountains in the background. It’s a perfect spot for sunset viewing and capturing photographs.
3.
