Your day begins at San Pedro Market, the city’s long-established central market — designed in 1925 by Gustave Eiffel’s workshop and still serving as a supply hub for locals. Meet Pierre in the heart of Bordeaux in his studio next to Saint Michel church. Over coffee or tea paired with chocolatines and croissants, Pierre will share stories from his daily life and explain how his studio fits into this historic and lively area.

You’ll explore the origins of photography and learn about wet plate collodion—a 19th-century technique that uses glass or metal plates, chemical baths, and a large format camera. Pierre will demonstrate each step while coating, sensitizing, exposing, and developing images.

Watching your portrait come to life is a striking visual moment: deep contrasts, delicate textures, and a vintage feel that’s hard to find elsewhere. While your image slowly appears, Pierre shares family stories and his personal view of Bordeaux and photography. If the light conditions are good, you can choose to shoot outdoors and include a glimpse of the city in your portrait.

The uniqueness of this experience lies in the physicality of the process and the one-of-a-kind result. Wet plate collodion photography doesn’t aim to imitate the past—it uses an early technique to craft images that are singular, dense, and deeply present. Each portrait is shaped by light and chemistry, with a richness of tones and details that can’t be replicated.

Pierre Wetzel has spent years refining this 19th-century process, working entirely with a large-format camera and mastering the subtle balance of materials and timing. His approach transforms a technical procedure into a moment of artistic exchange, revealing the tension between chance and control that defines the collodion process.

Before and during the session, talking with Pierre, who greets you like friends, offers a window into local creative life and the expertise of an artist deeply rooted in the city and its oldest neighborhood.

A collodion portrait on an aluminum plate (13×18 cm) to take home, signed by Pierre and packaged in a cardboard box. Each participant will receive their own portrait image. Groups/couples may also have a group photo.

You can wear something special such as a scarf or hat - or bring a prop relating to your work or interest to add texture to the portrait and make the experience more special.

Note: Joining Pierre in the dark room to see the photo come to life is something special. A narrow staircase, not suitable for people with mobility issues, leads to the dark room in the cellar: you can still book the experience, but you won’t be able to see the developing process. 

Pierre Wetzel is a Bordeaux-based photographer known for his dedication to wet plate collodion, a 19th-century photographic process that he has mastered over years of experimentation. He lives and works in the Saint-Michel district, where he runs his studio and regularly collaborates on community-based art projects that connect photography with local stories and social engagement.

This experience unfolds along the historic towpaths beside Milan’s Navigli canals, once bustling waterways vital for transporting goods and connecting the city to distant regions. As you stroll these paths, you'll encounter stories of the laborers and traders who shaped Milan’s commerce, contrasting vividly with today’s lively scene of aperitivos and street markets.

The walk pays homage to Alda Merini, Milan’s celebrated poet who was born and raised near the Navigli and whose work reflects a deep connection to the city’s identity. Along the way, selected passages of her poetry offer moments of reflection, weaving the past and present into a shared narrative.

As you move through charming courtyards and picturesque canalsides, the Navigli reveal themselves as more than mere transportation routes; they stand as living symbols of Milan’s changing cityscape, where tradition and modern life coexist in subtle balance.

This experience invites you to see the Navigli through a unique blend of visual artistry and deep storytelling, creating a rich and layered understanding of the area beyond surface impressions. Emanuele Dello Strologo is a photographer based between Genoa and Milan. His eye has been shaped by over a decade of work in reportage, portraiture, and black-and-white photography, with past collaborations including Corbis and Getty Images. He’s always observing, camera in hand, drawn to fleeting scenes of everyday life.

Erica De Ponti is a licensed guide with over 20 years of experience and a deep love for old-time Milan. She has written essays for photographic books on the subject, teaches art history at the Università della Terza Età, and works as both an editor and press officer. Her approach blends historical insight with a sharp sense for stories worth telling.

Serralves is more than a museum — it is a complete artistic environment. This tour focuses primarily on the museum complex: its architecture, gardens and outdoor sculptures. The buildings and curated landscapes are artworks in their own right.

You begin at a café with a conversation about the history of this cultural institution. You explore selected interiors, from one of Portugal’s most remarkable Art Deco houses to the minimalist museum wing designed by Álvaro Siza, with its restrained geometry and white planes. From there, the walk continues outdoors, where you encounter large-scale sculptures integrated into gardens and woodland paths — including works by internationally renowned artists such as Richard Serra, Dan Graham, and Claes Oldenburg, alongside leading Portuguese artists.

With a background in architecture and design research, and a specialization in built heritage and architectural history, Jelena has spent over a decade exploring Porto. Since 2013, the city has been her primary case study, blending her enthusiasm for Porto with an academic focus on sense of place.

As a design researcher and former university lecturer in Heritage and Design in Porto, she has spent years studying the stories that shape this remarkable city. Since 2018, she has led historical city tours, sharing her knowledge and appreciation for this vibrant and ever-evolving place with visitors from around the world.

This 10-day Morocco journey begins and ends in Marrakesh, unfolding through coastal Essaouira and the High Atlas Mountains in between. Upper Lakes (Gornja Jezera) (10:45 AM - 12:00 PM). Gear: Polarizing filter, telephoto lens. Tips: Capture the lush greenery and numerous waterfalls. Use the polarizing filter to manage reflections and the telephoto lens for detailed shots of the waterfalls and flora. Focus on textures and patterns in the landscape.

Sastavci Waterfall (12:15 PM - 12:45 PM). Gear: Tripod, wide-angle lens. Tips: Experiment with long exposure shots to achieve a silky water effect. Frame the waterfall with surrounding greenery to add depth to your photos. The tripod is essential for stabilizing the camera during long exposures.

Boardwalks and Wooden Paths (1:00 PM - 1:30 PM). Gear: Wide-angle lens. Tips: Use leading lines to draw attention to the natural beauty of the park. Capture wide-angle shots that include the paths and surrounding landscapes. These images will highlight the unique structure of the park’s walkways and the immersive experience they offer.

Embark on a historical journey at Silves Castle, a prominent Moorish fortress in the Algarve. Perched atop a hill in the town of Silves, this castle is a testament to the region's rich Islamic and Christian heritage. Known for its distinctive red sandstone walls and remarkable preservation, the castle offers an insightful glimpse into the Algarve's past. Top highlights:
- Moorish Architecture and Restoration: Silves Castle, primarily built during the Moorish occupation between the 8th and 13th centuries, stands as a classic example of Islamic military architecture. Over the years, the castle has undergone extensive restoration, including the repair of its walls and the establishment of a municipal museum.
- Impressive Structures: The castle features an irregular polygon shape, complete with four towers and seven crenellated posts, linked by walls with battlements. Notable structures within the castle include the Cistern of Moura and the Cisterna dos Cães, both historic water supply systems.
- Historic Interior: The castle's interior is equally fascinating, with halls covered in painted wood and various historic artifacts. The Governor's residence, believed to have been used by Prince Henry, showcases foundations and remnants of a spacious living room with a vaulted ceiling.
- Botanical Garden: Within the old Governor's garden, a botanical garden has been created, reflecting the Portuguese Discoveries period. This garden adds a serene and educational element to the castle visit, blending history with natural beauty.
Silves Castle is open to visitors year-round and the town of Silves itself is rich in history, offering additional attractions such as the Gothic Silves Cathedral and the Archaeological Museum. Exploring the town, you'll find traces of its Moorish past and the impact of the 1755 earthquake. The castle is easily accessible by car, and it's recommended to visit by this means due to limited public transportation options.

Moorish Silves Castle

Mexico City, Mexico, is home to the Biblioteca Vasconcelos, an architectural masterpiece and one of the most spectacular modern libraries in the world. Opened in 2006, this "mega-library" blends futuristic design with a vast literary collection, featuring floating bookshelves, towering glass walls, and open metal walkways. Named after José Vasconcelos, a key figure in Mexican education and culture, the library offers a serene space for book lovers, students, and photographers alike.


1. Stunning architecture, with suspended bookshelves and steel walkways that create a mesmerizing, maze-like visual effect.

2. A vast collection of books, covering literature, history, science, and philosophy, making it one of Mexico’s largest libraries.

3. The Giant Whale Skeleton, an impressive art installation by Gabriel Orozco, hangs in the main hall, adding a surreal element to the space.

Biblioteca Vasconcelos

Australia

The Great Barrier Reef is famous not only because it is the largest coral reef in the ocean, but also because it is the most beautiful one. For those who like snorkeling or diving, an unsurpassable underwater world opens up.

My highlight in Australia was definitely the day trip to the reef. From Cairns, we took the tourist boat out to sea. Since the water is relatively cold, you get a wetsuit and then have hours to discover the unique underwater world.

I saw sharks, turtles, huge colorful corals, man-sized fish, thousands of small schools of fish, a clam, rays, snails, and lots of underwater plants.

Remember that you are a trespasser in the underwater world, so be careful not to touch or destroy anything. Use organic sunscreen and always be respectful of your surroundings.

The world’s largest reef

In Marrakech, explore the labyrinth of the medina, lined with market stalls and craftspeople, and full of secret places and contradictions. 

Anonymous, windowless, fortress-like walls enclose luxurious riads built around tiled courtyards, complete with fountains and gardens.

Happily, my wonderful guide Khadija of Morocco Private Experience, encourages my curiosity. She leads the way across the medieval labyrinth of chaotic alleyways - to the souks where centuries-old skills continue to flourish. 

I am intrigued about how all the craftspeople are clustered together by trade. We watch a metal craftsman shape a pair of gnawa cymbals. A leatherworker allows me inside his workshop for a better view. There is an entire street of ornate lantern sellers - the bronze-latticed lanterns competing with the palm-leafed roofs of the souks in throwing light-and-shadow patterns all around.

Heart and Souk

Naples, Italy, is home to Spaccanapoli, the city’s most famous and historic street that slices through the heart of the ancient center. This narrow, bustling thoroughfare is more than just a road—it’s a journey through Naples’ rich history, culture, and daily life. Lined with centuries-old churches, artisan shops, street food stalls, and vibrant local markets, Spaccanapoli captures the spirit of the city. Its name, which means “Naples-splitter,” reflects how the street divides the historic core, offering visitors an immersive experience of Neapolitan traditions and modern vitality.

1. Along the street, historic landmarks like the Church of Santa Chiara and San Domenico Maggiore showcase Gothic and Baroque architectural beauty. These iconic sites are must-sees for lovers of art and history.

2. Traditional Neapolitan street food, including sfogliatella, pizza fritta, and babà, is available from local vendors. Sampling these authentic flavors is an essential part of the Spaccanapoli experience.

3. Artisan workshops and boutiques offer handcrafted nativity scenes (Presepi) on Via San Gregorio Armeno, a side street famous for its detailed, handmade figurines—especially vibrant during the Christmas season.

4. The street is filled with local life and street performers, creating an energetic and authentic atmosphere. Exploring Spaccanapoli allows visitors to feel the pulse of daily life in Naples.

5. Hidden courtyards and underground sites like Napoli Sotterranea reveal layers of history beneath the surface, including ancient Greco-Roman ruins and WWII-era shelters.

Visitor Tip: Wear comfortable shoes—the cobblestone streets can be uneven—and explore in the late afternoon to enjoy both the lively atmosphere and the golden glow over the city’s historic facades.

Spaccanapoli

Loutro Village, accessible only by hiking or ferry, is a secluded coastal gem tucked into a tranquil bay on Crete’s southern coast. Known for its whitewashed buildings and turquoise waters, it offers a peaceful retreat away from the island’s busier areas.
1. The village is car-free, creating a serene and quiet atmosphere.
2. Its turquoise bays are perfect for swimming, kayaking, or relaxing on the shore.
3. Charming tavernas serve delicious fresh seafood and traditional Cretan dishes.
4. The surrounding hills offer excellent hiking trails with spectacular views.
5. Its untouched, laid-back charm makes it a favorite for those seeking solitude.

Loutro Village

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to the San Telmo Market (Mercado de San Telmo), a historic indoor market that offers a perfect blend of antiques, artisanal crafts, and authentic Argentine street food. Established in 1897, this bustling market is housed in a beautiful iron-and-glass structure, where visitors can browse vintage treasures, savor traditional empanadas, and soak up the lively atmosphere of one of Buenos Aires’ oldest neighborhoods.


1. Antique Stalls & Vintage Finds, with everything from old tango records and silverware to classic Argentine memorabilia, making it a paradise for collectors.

2. Local Food Stands, offering Argentine specialties like empanadas, choripán (chorizo sandwich), and fresh-baked medialunas (croissants).

3. El Preferido de San Telmo, a must-visit butcher shop and deli within the market, famous for its Argentine cold cuts, cheeses, and traditional picadas.

4. Tango & Street Performers, often found outside the market, where dancers and musicians bring the spirit of Buenos Aires to life.

5. Sunday Feria de San Telmo, an extension of the market into the surrounding streets, featuring hundreds of stalls selling handmade crafts, leather goods, and local artwork.

Visitor Tip: Visit on Sunday to experience the full San Telmo Feria, but arrive early to avoid crowds. For a sweet treat, try a dulce de leche-filled alfajor from one of the local vendors!

San Telmo Market

Valencia, Spain, is home to the Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia), a lush, 9-kilometer-long green space that winds through the heart of the city. Once the riverbed of the diverted Turia River, this sprawling urban park is now one of Spain’s largest city parks, featuring walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, fountains, and iconic landmarks like the City of Arts and Sciences. Whether you’re looking for a scenic stroll, a relaxing picnic, or an active outdoor adventure, Turia Gardens offers a peaceful retreat in the middle of Valencia.


1. Scenic walking and cycling trails stretch across the park, passing through lush gardens, bridges, and open spaces perfect for outdoor activities.

Turia Gardens

Barcelona, Spain, is home to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), a spectacular museum showcasing one of the most comprehensive collections of Catalan art in the world. Located inside the grand Palau Nacional on Montjuïc Hill, the museum offers a journey through a thousand years of art, from Romanesque frescoes to Modernist masterpieces. With its breathtaking views over Barcelona, majestic domed halls, and an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, and photography, MNAC is a must-visit for art lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Gallerie dell'Accademia stands as a bastion of Venetian artistic mastery housing the world's largest collection of Venetian art. Key highlights:
