Andrea Bustillos and Andrea Villers are two art historians and curators with over fifteen years of experience in museums, galleries, and cultural spaces. United by a passion for contemporary art, they’ve each built careers dedicated to enriching Mexico’s cultural landscape.

Andrea B., trained in Madrid, directed a gallery focused on contemporary painting and currently leads a national program supporting creative industries.

Andrea V., educated in Granada and with a master’s in Curatorial Studies, leads a consultancy that develops exhibition projects and advises on cultural strategies.

Together, they offer in-depth experiences grounded in their knowledge of the local arts scene and strong ties to artists, curators, and institutions. If they’re unavailable, their colleagues Jaime or Mario—also experienced art historians—will be your hosts. This will be confirmed well in advance of the experience.

This experience traces the artistic and spiritual legacy of José Clemente Orozco — muralist, philosopher, and seeker of hidden truths.

Born in Jalisco, Orozco pursued his art and vision across the United States and Europe before returning to his homeland to create his greatest works. In Guadalajara, he turned walls into vast meditations on freedom, myth, and human struggle.

Inside UNESCO World Heritage-listed Hospicio Cabañas, he painted fifty-seven monumental frescoes between 1937 and 1939, including The Man of Fire — a spiraling vision of transformation where Mexico’s history unfolds. 
At the Government Palace, his image of Father Hidalgo — the Prometheus of Mexican Independence — raises a torch of freedom that illuminates the civic heart of the city. 

The journey concludes at MUSA (Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara), where Orozco’s later works confront modernity and politics alike, and humanity’s endless tension between creation and destruction.

Orozco’s murals were conceived for public walls, transforming civic spaces into symphonies of color, scale, and human experience. His genius was to turn social history into a shared vision, accessible to all.

Alejandro brings academic insight, lived experience and a grounded respect for place. His work offers a view into how land, tradition, and identity continue to shape western Mexico today.

Chile

This half-day private mosaic experience takes place in the studio of the bilingual muralist, Shannon McEvoy. Under Shannon's guidance, you will design and fabricate your own mosaic masterpiece to take home as a memento of your time in Chile.  From the Valle de la Luna in the Atacama Desert, to the colorful hills of Valparaiso, to the Villarrica Volcano in Pucon, to the rock formations of Torres del Paine National Park, Chile is filled with breathtaking landscapes that are gorgeous to mosaic.

Shannon will work with you to help you bring your vision to fruition. After the activity concludes, Shannon will grout your mosaic tile and help you to arrange the pick-up from her studio 48+ hours later. During the workshop, you'll hear of the significance of mosaics in Chile—a country famed for its street art and murals. You'll hear about Shannon's role as a mosaic muralist working in Santiago, Puente Alto (the Mosaic Capital of the Southern Hemisphere), and beyond.

This experience invites you into the intimate studio of an artist in Santiago to create your own Chile-inspired mosaic artwork. This may be of an abstract style or inspired by Chilean landscapes. You may choose to collaborate with your travel partner and create one mosaic to take home, or create individual masterpieces.

Over the course of the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of mosaic techniques as Shannon helps you assemble your artwork. As an artistic director, Shannon collaborates with Chilean muralists and champions the community aspect of creation—she believes that art is for everyone. During this activity, you'll have the opportunity to quiz Shannon about life as a bilingual expat artist in Chile, her current projects, and how you can bring more creativity into your life. This bilingual mosaic masterclass is the perfect opportunity to practice your Spanish and pick up some essential "Chilenismos" (Chilean slang) for your onward travels.

This experience takes place in Shannon's studio in Providencia, Santiago de Chile. The exact address to is provided after booking. If traveling by metro, take Line 1 and alight at either Pedro de Valdivia or Manuel Montt. It's a 15-minute walk to Shannon’s studio from either station. Uber and Cabify rides are widely available in Santiago.

Shannon is a multimedia artist who loves exploring different languages and cultures, meeting new people, and listening to their stories. Originally from Minnesota, she studied abroad in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. The street art of Valparaíso influenced her so profoundly that she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and pursued a career as a muralist.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—but her talents don’t stop there. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography.

Shannon loves sharing her passions for art and language. To her, both are about expressing oneself and building meaningful connections. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

In the heart of the historic centre, fearless riders gallop through the narrow stone-paved streets in a daring race known as Sa Carrela ‘e Nanti.

The highlight? A centuries-old ritual where horsemen aim to strike two cloth hens hanging along the route, blending athletic skill and ancient folklore. You’ll be guided by an expert photographer who helps you capture the energy and beauty of the event, while introducing you to locals who’ve lived this tradition since childhood. Old Town of Faro

The riad sends a donkey called Couscous to meet us and pick up the luggage; the taxi will only go so far into the medina. 

As our merry procession winds through the narrow, confusing alleyways, we panic slightly. No problem, says a djelleba-clad staff member, you’ll have a map and cell phone to call if you’re lost. But he graciously accompanies us to our dinner booking and explains how we should get back to the riad. We leave invisible bread crumbs along the way – kebab shop, sweets stall, bakery etc. 

After a long meal, at 11:30 pm, the souks have closed, the streets look very different, and our bread crumbs have obviously gone to bed. It takes two wrong turns and much poring over the map before we find our way back. Our sense of adventure is fully piqued. 

Inside, the restored riad is palatial, with courtyards, heated pool, tiled terraces and stylish artwork. Breakfast is whenever you want, and wherever, says the charming Afaf. 

Shall we move in permanently, we wonder.

Weather forecast? Fair, says Harry, the winds will blow away the clouds and midges.
