Guided by passionate fisherman Andrea Rossi, this journey is designed to immerse you in the natural wonders of the lagoon in just three hours. 

As you set sail from Burano, let the peaceful canals of the island of Torcello take your breath away. Then, delve into the lagoon's tranquil sandbanks, where Andrea will unveil the secrets of the lagoon's diverse bird species, and the aromatic plants that have been used in Venetian cuisine for centuries and are still employed by contemporary Venetian chefs to create unique dishes and liqueurs.  You will have plenty of opportunities for photos and foraging. At the end of the tour, Andrea will drop you off near the Burano traghetto stop. This tour is perfect for nature and photography enthusiasts, and those seeking a short yet immersive exploration of the Venetian lagoon, far from the madding crowds. 

From Venice to Burano, it's a 20-25 minute ride by private water taxi (can be booked via your hotel) or a 45 minute ride on the public vaporetto (runs from 5 AM onwards, check exact time with hotel).

You'll discover the flora and fauna of the Venetian lagoon by following unique itineraries known only to local fishermen, far from the typical tourist routes. Along the way, you'll find plenty of photo opportunities, with stops for foraging, a chance to observe the differences in various species of clams, and the possibility of seeing pink flamingos and other birds. Jaime will teach you how to read a building, understand its symbolism, and appreciate how public and private spaces coexist in a city. Along the way, he’ll share curious tales and trivia about this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll also gain insight into how Valparaíso's unique topography has influenced its architecture and urban design, shaping the city's identity over centuries.

Jaime Núñez is a Chilean architect and master in urban planning. Born and raised in Valparaíso—the Jewel of the Pacific—he offers a unique perspective on this city of poets, sailors, and artists. His career took him to Brazil, where he published papers and conducted further research into the landscape of urban design. Upon returning to Valparaíso, Jaime established his own architectural firm.

 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. A gravel road gets you to a tiny cafeteria - where you can pay a small fee to drive further in till the edge of the water.

All my life, I called it |trom-sow|, but the locals insist on |troom-sa|. 

The drive through Andøya and Senja was so spectacular that we wanted to abandon our itinerary and stay on the islands overnight vs. driving into Tromsø. And then I would have missed a dramatic sunset/dawn. Everything - sky, sea, windows on buildings, Arctic Church, mountain tops - blazed fiery red for an hour before turning into several shades of blue, with bright pink thrown in for effect. It stayed like that all night long. 

The locals can’t seem to stop partying through Friday night all along Storgata, so the people-watching is riveting. We’ve got to sleep at some point, we kept telling each other.

Having a background in biology, coming to the Galapagos was absolutely a bucket list trip. The trip is worth going if you have three to seven days, depending on how much you want to see. I was there for three days and I could have discovered more islands. 

It is important to have a tour guide as you are not allowed to venture outside the town without one. 

Definitely worth a visit!

Meet the Lion. Landlord of the Okavango floodplains. The fearless prides of lions here are known to hunt buffaloes and elephants. They have large prides, with several young cubs. In the delta, as it is elsewhere, it’s all about power and opportunism.

The delta is clearly a fluke of nature, and the way to appreciate it best is from the air, especially in June and July when you can see the progress of the rain water flooding into the area and turning it into a lush paradise teeming with wildlife. 

It’s a very special place.
