You’ll meet Phil in front of Marché Biron, 85 Rue des Rosiers, Saint-Ouen. It’s an easy 30-minute Uber or taxi ride from Paris city center to this legendary, treasured market.

Philippe Mevel is a Paris-based antiques specialist and art dealer who leads private visits through the Saint-Ouen flea markets, antique boutiques, and art galleries. He trained in Switzerland and France before moving to the United States in 1999.

From 2000 to 2006 he worked with Gasiunasen Fine Arts in Palm Beach, collaborating with prominent collectors. Since 2007 he has worked independently as an art advisor and dealer, with acquisitions that have included works by Picasso and Chagall.

Philippe’s core expertise is seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French furniture, complemented by broad knowledge of modern and contemporary art and design. His clients range from corporate teams and museums to architects, interior designers, dealers, and first-time buyers.

Morocco

This is a moderately challenging private trek to the revered Muslim shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, starting from Imlil. This trek takes you through the traditional village of Aremd and ascends to 2350m (7710ft) at Sidi Chamarouch, positioned by a picturesque waterfall. 

While the shrine itself is not accessible to non-Muslims, the area around it offers a peaceful reflective spot for a picnic and stunning views across the Atlas Mountains and up towards the summit of Toubkal. Overall, the Sidi Chamarouch trek offers a profound glimpse into the Amazigh (Berber) spirituality, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural tapestry.  

On this trek, you'll follow the same scenic route both to and from Sidi Chamarouch as it's part of the trail leading to the Toubkal Summit. This Experience is of medium difficulty and may, therefore, be unsuitable for young children. We strongly recommend hiring a mule that children can ride if tired. See “What to Bring” for details.

Unleash your inner artist (and architect) on a 3-hour sketching experience in Chile's capital of culture. Led by Jaime Núñez, a Chilean architect and urban planner born and raised in Valparaíso, you’ll explore Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre on foot, armed with a sketchbook and pencil. 

Jaime will teach you how to read a building, understand its symbolism, and appreciate how public and private spaces coexist in a city. Along the way, he’ll share curious tales and trivia about this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll also gain insight into how Valparaíso's unique topography has influenced its architecture and urban design, shaping the city's identity over centuries.

Jaime Núñez is a Chilean architect and master in urban planning. Born and raised in Valparaíso—the Jewel of the Pacific—he offers a unique perspective on this city of poets, sailors, and artists. Having studied every corner and curve of this place built on 45 hills, he shares the cultural story behind each edifice. His career took him to Brazil, where he published papers and conducted further research into the landscape of urban design. Upon returning to Valparaíso, Jaime established his own architectural firm.

Spain

This private workshop offers hands-on access to one of Spain’s oldest and most iconic ceramic workshops: the Fajalauza factory. Founded in 1517 and still operated by the Morales family, Fajalauza has been shaping the visual identity of Granada for over 500 years.

You’ll begin with a private tour through its original production site and museum—home to ancient kilns, hand-thrown molds, and decorative pieces that reflect the fusion of Islamic and European styles. As you explore, you’ll learn how Granada’s ceramic language evolved across centuries, adapting to dynasties and shifting cultural forces while staying rooted in the local soil.

Then comes your own initiation into the craft. Guided by master artisans, you’ll sit at the potter’s wheel for a “baptism of clay,” shaping a vessel from scratch. The session includes Andalusian tapas and a drink, served on-site. Your finished piece will be fired and available for pickup in a week, or can be shipped to you for a supplementary fee.

This private, rare-access workshop lets you go behind the scenes of Fajalauza—Granada’s most iconic ceramic tradition, practiced since 1517. Run by the Morales family for generations, this factory is the last of its kind still producing glazed and hand-painted pottery using methods rooted in Islamic and Mozarab craftsmanship.

Fajalauza ceramics have decorated homes, marked street names and even replaced damaged tiles in the Alhambra’s Patio de los Arrayanes. Its signature green and blue motifs—vines, birds, heraldic emblems—speak to a style that has endured conquest and mass production. This day-long experience takes you into the volcanic valleys west of Guadalajara, in the shadow of the Tequila Volcano, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, history, landscape, and living tradition converge. You’ll travel by private vehicle to the Guachimontones archaeological site, home to Mexico’s only circular pyramids — ceremonial structures built over 2,000 years ago by the Teuchitlán culture. With your guide, you’ll explore the site and its museum, tracing the meaning behind shaft tombs and ceremonial architecture that once shaped ritual and belief in this region.

After a traditional lunch in the Jalisco countryside, you’ll take part in a hands-on obsidian workshop. Working with this sharp, volcanic glass — once used for tools, mirrors, and offerings — offers a tactile connection to the materials and techniques of ancient artisans. It’s a slow arc through time, from deep earth to human hand, in a place where heritage is still active.

Guachimontones is a site few travelers know — yet it reveals a civilization that developed apart from the Aztec and Maya, with its own sacred geometry, burial practices, and relationship to volcanic land. Alejandro, your guide, is a trained anthropologist who brings this past into focus, connecting archaeological forms to cosmology, ritual, and daily life. His fieldwork and academic research in western Mexico give him rare fluency in the site’s deeper meanings — from the symbolism of the circular pyramids to the cultural role of obsidian in daily and spiritual life.

Japan

Master calligrapher Eri Koyama takes you on a journey toward peace and contentment with a simple brush and ink. This private experience begins in a peaceful Kyoto temple where she explains the cultural significance of shodo, Japanese calligraphy, and how it has been used as both a form of art and meditation over the centuries. Rooted in Zen philosophy, shodo invites stillness, focus, and a deep connection between mind and body.

Next, Eri explains the tools used in Japanese calligraphy, and you'll learn to make your own ink from an inkstone. After introducing the different writing styles, she’ll guide you in practicing the foundational strokes used in each.

After a short tea break, you'll choose a favorite Japanese character or word — something meaningful to you — which you'll practice, refining your technique under Eri’s expert instruction. At the end of the workshop, you’ll produce a finished work on handmade paper, a keepsake to display and reflect on long after your return home.

This deep dive into the art of Japanese calligraphy is more than an art workshop; it is an opportunity to understand the strong bond between this ancient practice and many other aspects of Japanese culture. You’ll discover how shodo can be used as a form of meditation, creating an oasis of calm in an otherwise chaotic day — and how each brushstroke reflects not only the artist’s hand, but their inner state.

Eri Koyama has practiced Japanese calligraphy (shodō) for over 30 years, studying under renowned calligrapher Shōshū from the age of six. Although she holds a master’s license in the art, Eri approaches each brushstroke with a student’s humility — continuously exploring shodō’s expressive and meditative dimensions. 

In her workshops, Eri welcomes beginners and enthusiasts alike. She shares not only the techniques of shodō — brush, ink, form — but its capacity to cultivate mindfulness and creative presence. Each session becomes a moment to connect hand, heart, and heritage — a quiet, profound journey into the art of writing.

This one-of-a-kind private, 90-minute cooking class at the Sign Language Café in Marrakesh blends traditional Moroccan pastry-making with the fundamentals of sign language. Led by the café’s talented deaf chefs, the class guides you through preparing beloved Moroccan pastries like crepes and milk pastilla. As you bake, you’ll learn basic gestures in Moroccan Sign Language—enough to engage, communicate, and connect in meaningful ways with your hosts.

Marie Fernández is a Mexican photographer who grew up in Mexico City. From 2017 to 2019, she studied photography in Paris and graduated as a photojournalist and documentary photographer. She is currently a member of the Women Photographers History collective.

Manuel is also a Mexican photographer from the city. He has worked with international media such as The New York Times and is currently contributing to The New Yorker. In 2024, he held his first solo exhibition, hosted by the U.S. Congress at the Capitol Building and funded by Amnesty International and the Open Society Foundations.

In this experience, they combine their photography skills with their passion for welcoming people to their home city and helping visitors experience the best it has to offer. The Great Barrier Reef is famous not only because it is the largest coral reef in the ocean, but also because it is the most beautiful one. For those who like snorkeling or diving, an unsurpassable underwater world opens up.

My highlight in Australia was definitely the day trip to the reef. From Cairns, we took the tourist boat out to sea. Since the water is relatively cold, you get a wetsuit and then have hours to discover the unique underwater world.

I saw sharks, turtles, huge colorful corals, man-sized fish, thousands of small schools of fish, a clam, rays, snails, and lots of underwater plants.

Remember that you are a trespasser in the underwater world, so be careful not to touch or destroy anything. Use organic sunscreen and always be respectful of your surroundings.

The world’s largest reef

Spend the afternoon exploring two of Dubrovnik's historic and photo-worthy sites: the Franciscan Monastery and the Dominican Monastery.

Start with the Franciscan Monastery, located near the Pile Gate. This serene spot offers a quiet retreat from the city's bustle. The monastery's peaceful cloister, featuring Romanesque-Gothic architecture and a beautiful central garden, is a highlight for photographers. Don't miss the Old Pharmacy, one of the oldest functioning pharmacies in Europe, which offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. You can comfortably explore the Franciscan Monastery in about 45 minutes to an hour.

Next, head to the Dominican Monastery, situated near the Ploče Gate. This monastery, with its impressive Gothic-Renaissance style, houses a stunning collection of art and artifacts. The cloister, adorned with arches and lush greenery, provides a perfect setting for reflection and photography. The monastery's museum showcases works by local artists, offering insight into Dubrovnik's rich cultural heritage. Plan to spend another 45 minutes to an hour here.

Both sites can be seen in around two hours, providing a peaceful and enriching experience that allows you to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Dubrovnik.

Monasteries Dubrovnik Old Town

The Real Alcázar of Seville, an emblematic royal palace, is a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of Seville. Its walls and gardens narrate stories from the Islamic era to the present, showcasing a blend of Mudéjar, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural styles. Visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site is an immersive journey through time, where history, art, and nature converge in a breathtaking spectacle. Top reasons to visit include:
1: Courtyard of the Maidens. Begin your exploration in the Courtyard of the Maidens, notable for its long reflecting pool and sunken gardens, restored to their original glory in 2004. This starting point sets the tone for the architectural and historical wonders that lie ahead.
2: Ambassador’s Hall (Throne Room). Do not miss the Ambassador's Hall, also known as the Throne Room, famed for its gilded cedar domed ceiling, dubbed the "Half Orange." Rich in Mudéjar art, it is where the caliphs once welcomed prestigious guests, showcasing exquisite ornamentation and intricate craftsmanship.

4: Royal Alcázar Gardens. The heart of the Alcázar's experience is its extensive gardens. Spanning 60,000 square meters, these gardens are a mix of Moorish, Renaissance, and English influences, offering a peaceful retreat with endless paths, exotic plants, and picturesque fountains.
5: Baths of Maria Padilla. A truly hidden gem, the Baths of Maria Padilla are rainwater tanks beneath the palace, once used by the queen for her private bathing, and offer a serene, almost mystical atmosphere.

Real Alcázar of Seville

Yves Saint Laurent gifted Jardin Majorelle to Marrakech, the city that adopted him and his partner in the 60s. They bought an electric-blue villa and its garden, preserved the vision of its original owner (landscape painter Jacques Majorelle), and opened it to the public. 

What makes this feel like a psychedelic mirage in the desert?

Hot pink bougainvillea bursting from terracotta planters. Architectural cacti in lemon-yellow planters. Bamboos growing against cobalt-blue walls. Colorful birds flitting through palm trees. Saint Laurent’s gorgeous collection of Moroccan art, that I totally covet. 

It also has a museum that features jewelry in a setting that our guide Khadija keeps referring to as “a dream”. A dark room with a star-spangled ceiling and low voltage spotlights shining on stunning jewelry sets.

Psychedelic Mirage

Just a few kilometers south of Essaouira, Morocco, lies the sleepy village of Diabat, forever linked to the legendary musician Jimi Hendrix.
