Just outside Oaxaca city is a community called San Andres Huayapam, that is famed as the birthplace of tejate. This thoughtfully curated experience offers a rare opportunity to connect with this tradition firsthand. You’ll explore the area where it was founded, peruse local murals, plus meet a traditional tejatera who will explain the process, ingredients and the history of this nutritious drink.

This pre-Hispanic libation was used in sowing and harvesting ceremonies and also consumed by Zapotec kings. It’s made from corn, cacao, flor de rosita, toasted mamey pits, and water in a massive clay pot. It’s traditionally served in a painted bowl known as a jícara.

We’ll then enjoy fresh tejate and a snack with this tejatera in her home. Finally, we’ll walk to a restaurant for a set sampler meal of traditional delicacies. This venue is located in the courtyard of another local family home, and sits under a canopy of branches, which are key to producing the blooms in the tejate process.

While the host has lived in Oaxaca for a decade, five of those years have been spent in this Zapotec community. Here, she has forged meaningful connections with locals and can speak to how the town voluntarily operates under Indigenous usos y costumbres law, as well as the annual tejate festival. That said, the specifics of this tradition will be shared by an expert local who has inherited her skills from a long line of tejate makers.

Located roughly 20 minutes from Oaxaca de Juárez, this scenic pueblo offers a glimpse of traditional village life—locals working the fields, burros carrying firewood, and adobe makers crafting custom earthen bricks. An especially popular destination for Oaxacans on weekends, many travel here to sample tejate, visit nearby lakes, and enjoy gourmet fare in family-run restaurants. A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

Chile

This full-day experience immerses you in the Atacama's most dramatic scenery: its geysers, high-altitude wetlands, and volcanic highlands. Unlike most tours to El Tatio (Los Géisers del Tatio) which depart before dawn, Valeria's experience takes place once the crowds have thinned and the late-morning light draws out the remarkable hues of the minerals. A naturalist guide with a keen knowledge of geology, Valeria dives deep into this phenomenal region of geysers, fumaroles, and mud pools before leading you on a gentle hike (at 4,200 m.a.s.l.).

The excursion continues at the rarely-visited Río Blanco Wetland (Humedal de Río Blanco). Fed by a river carrying meltwater from the Andes, this green corridor — popular with vicuñas and flamingoes — is a shock amid the arid landscape and a particular delight for wildlife lovers. As you make your way back down to San Pedro, you will call at the Machuca and Putana wetlands and reflect on these diverse ecosystems in the Atacama Northern Highlands.

Everyone knows about the Tatio Geysers, and everyone wishes to witness the world's highest geothermal field as part of their Altiplano safari. But Valeria's experience goes beyond the typical sightseeing tour; she's taking you off-piste and showing you there's more than vapor. Arriving after the sunrise show, you are able to appreciate the colors of the mineral deposits, the bubbling mud pools, and the geyser vents, which are tricky to see in the low light of dawn. After wandering around the main geothermal system, Valeria will guide you to a lesser-known mud geyser. At the Río Blanco Wetland, you will linger over one of the Atacama's most biodiverse ecosystems and keep one eye trained for its wildlife, both migratory and resident.

Japan

Step inside a working Buddhist temple in Osaka and spend several hours following the rhythms of a monk’s day. You’ll meet your hosts - a practicing monk who also works as an architect, and Zane, who has spent ten years in Japan studying religious and cultural traditions. Then you’ll change into the traditional robes of a monk and begin a series of mindful rituals.

First, a guided meditation and the practice of shakyo: hand-copying sutras in the form of kanji characters using brush and ink. This is a daily ritual for monks, intended to steady the mind before service. Later, you'll assist with the daily temple tasks, from preparing for festivals to sweeping the temple grounds.

Midday, you’ll share a shojin ryori meal: a simple, seasonal vegetarian lunch prepared in the Buddhist tradition. Zane provides translation, insights and context throughout.

At the end of the day, you’ll receive either a goshuin (temple stamp) or omamori (amulet)—a small marker of your day as a monk in Osaka.

Most introductions to monastic life in Japan take place in rural retreats. This temple is an active religious site in the grid of central Osaka. You’ll speak with the monks about their lives, explore the overlaps and tensions between secular and spiritual paths, and observe how Buddhist tradition is preserved and adapted in a modern context.

The monk who leads the experience also works as an architect. His approach integrates design with ritual. His wife prepares the mid-day meal using principles of shojin ryori passed down through temple tradition. Zane, who has spent a decade in Japan, helps translate both language and context, offering interpretation that clarifies without interrupting the cadence of the day.

This is a 2.5-hour introduction to the land, craft, and wines of a family-run estate in the Aquitaine countryside. The Médoc reveals itself through its grand estates and the precision of its vineyards. Gianmario Pedroni is a photographer and a Sardinian choir member. After honing his skills in England, he specialized in advertising, fashion, and design, working with prominent photographers and brands. In 2009, he returned to Sardinia to establish his studio, where he captures the region’s breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture while actively participating in local traditions as a member of a traditional choir.

In this studio visit you'll meet an architect who is playing with ways to use objects the city leaves behind — cement blocks, plastic crates, shattered tiles, and other things that often slip into invisibility. 

Inspired by his background in environmental design, Javier transforms such fragments into sculptural furniture such as chairs, tables and shelves. Each piece is a constellation of temporalities and forgotten stories, a collection and reconfiguration of objects found throughout CDMX, which Javier sources himself.

Javier will welcome you to his studio and share his process, sharing how walking, gathering, and assembling have become methods to map the city and its leftovers. He'll discuss what his design work says about Mexico City, and also how he's approached this work in other cities such as London, where he's been an artist in residence. 

The experience offers a unique window into how design can be responsive, situated and radically resourceful, as well as being sculptural.

This exclusive experience offers rare access to Javier's studio in central Mexico City, where objects in various stages of development reveal the intuitive and speculative nature of his work. Every piece is singular and made with wild, non-standard measurements and joined using simple, reversible techniques. More than a studio tour, this visit is a conversation on contemporary design, ecological imagination, and the aesthetics of reuse — a slow, thoughtful look at the anatomy of urban space through its overlooked material life.

Javier Guzmán Cervantes is an artist, designer, and builder based in Mexico City. His work explores residual realities in the contemporary metropolis, developing domestic infrastructures, furniture, and structural systems through low-tech and autonomous processes out of debris, residues, and material fragments gathered through urban exploration. In this process, he engages with concepts such as degrowth, living otherwise, and post-development, questioning the role of art, design and construction in relation to sustainability and community.

Through direct contact with the city, Javier's practice transforms discarded objects into local resources, creating not only tactical approaches to construction but also serving as traces of life and local processes within the city: revealing stories.

In 2023, he founded Ex Soup, an art and design experiment based in Mexico City that uses walking, urban wandering, and low-tech methods to collect and reassemble the city’s remains.

This 3-hour immersive experience introduces you to the ancient Turkish art of Tezhip, also known as the Islamic Art of Illumination. You’ll explore its origins from the Ottoman period, when it adorned sacred manuscripts and important texts, and gain insights into its rich cultural significance. Hosted at a private studio inside a local council, this experience combines history with hands-on learning. 

You'll discuss the history and evolution of Tezhip art, covering its role in Ottoman and Islamic culture. Then engage in a workshop guided by the master and educator of Tezhip, Ms. Şeyma Çınar, who has been practicing this art since 1998. During the workshop, you will draw your own illuminated piece, learning techniques with real gold powder and hand-paint motifs that have been preserved for centuries. Alongside the session, you’ll get a taste of Turkish tea and local sweets.

A Black River Safari took us into the heart of the largest freshwater wetland ecosystem in Jamaica, the Great Morass at the Black River. This area, spanning 125 square miles, is a haven for biodiversity, featuring giant mangrove trees and an array of swamp animals, including the endangered American crocodile, protected under the Wildlife Protection Act in Jamaica. 

The guides spotted crocodiles of various sizes in the water and along the riverbanks, including baby crocodiles. Also several bird species call this area home. As we glided along the river, we saw snowy egrets, great egrets, and great blue herons, among other bird species.

The River teems with mangrove trees, ferns, and water lilies. The mangroves are particularly noteworthy, with some species having roots extending 40 feet downward. A curious aspect of the Black River is its dark color, which becomes more noticeable as you move upstream. This is due to the peat soil at the bottom of the river, which, despite giving the river its dark appearance, keeps the water clear. 

If you're interested in learning more about the crocodiles, many tours conclude with a visit to the Crocodile Nursery, where young and injured crocodiles are cared for until they are ready to return to the wild.

There’s the chacarera, a lively partner dance with much stomping. During zamba, couples circle each other, waving white handkerchiefs. Finally in the cherished malambo, a male gaucho performs his best steps to show off his strength and boldness to upstage other competitors. Then the dancers go around the room looking for partners from among the audience, and it’s fascinating to see the eagerness of the crowd to join in.

Parc del Delta de l’Ebre

Initially a medieval fortress, it now boasts the Renaissance grandeur of the Salone dei Cinquecento. A living testament to the city's political, artistic, and architectural evolution. Top reasons to visit:
1- The construction of Palazzo Vecchio, attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, began in 1299. Built over the ruins of the Uberti Ghibelline towers and atop a Roman theater, the palace exemplifies the triumph of the Guelph faction. It has served as the seat of the city council, composed of the Guilds of Florence, and even housed Duke Walter VI of Brienne. The architectural design, initially severe and medieval, concealed sumptuous halls and residential apartments​​.
2 - Created during the Republic of Fra' Girolamo Savonarola in 1494, the Salone dei Cinquecento is the most significant room in Palazzo Vecchio. Originally basic and almost devoid of decoration, it was later chosen by Piero Soderini for grand murals by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti, depicting the Republic's victories. Although these works were never completed, their initiation marked a high point in Renaissance art. When the Medici returned to power in 1540, they transformed the Salone into a symbol of ducal authority. Giorgio Vasari was tasked with its renovation, elevating the ceiling and adding a coffered structure with forty-two panels. The room's decor glorified the Medici family, replacing the original allegory of Florence with a depiction of Duke Cosimo himself​​​​​​.
Palazzo Vecchio, located at Piazza della Signoria, Florence, is open to the public as a museum. It offers various guided tours, some specifically tailored for families with children.
