For over 40 years, Francesco has transformed threads of gold and silver into intricate jewelry, working entirely by hand with tools and techniques passed down through generations.

You'll learn how Sardinian filigree is created—from raw materials to the delicate process that gives each piece its unique character. In his studio, Francesco introduces the region’s iconic forms: traditional wedding rings, ornate buttons worn on bridal gowns, and pendants that tell stories of Sardinia’s past. He also shares his family’s history, showing old photographs taken in the same space where his workshop now stands.

Francesco Serra is a master goldsmith and filigree artist. A graduate of the Istituto Statale d’Arte of Nuoro, he began his career as an apprentice before opening his own workshop in 1983. For over four decades, Francesco has been creating intricate jewelry by hand, blending traditional Sardinian designs with his own contemporary vision. His work reflects a deep respect for heritage, technique, and the quiet beauty of craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Portugal

This walking tour traces Lisbon’s history through the eyes of the women who helped shape the city and its cultural waves. It begins at the Kit Garden, where Joana Vasconcelos’s striking red sculpture was created to bring people together. From there, you’ll head toward the Mouraria and Alfama districts, where narrow alleys were once filled with the voices of the varinas, the fishmongers who carried the day’s catch through the streets, and the fado singers who turned everyday struggle into haunting songs. 

You’ll pause for a coffee and light snack at a traditional café before continuing to Baixa, where Vos will uncover how homes and livelihoods were rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. Then, you’ll climb into Bairro Alto to visit a convent once reserved for noble girls, a living reminder of women’s devotion and confinement through the centuries. The walk concludes in Santa Catarina, at one of Lisbon’s most beautiful viewpoints, where you can reflect on this new lens of history.

Behind the many kings, explorers, and historic monuments are the women who kept Lisbon running, yet never made the history books. In this tour, you’ll hear about figures like Queen Catarina de Bragança, who brought tea to England and diplomacy to Europe; revolutionary writer Natália Correia; and the Three Marias, whose banned writings challenged the dictatorship and helped fuel the cultural awakening that preceded the April 25 Revolution. You’ll also learn about the varinas of Alfama, whose independence and strength became symbols of Lisbon’s popular culture.

Chile

This full-day photographic excursion whisks you away to salty lagoons and a traditional Atacameño town as yet untouched by tourism. Besides learning landscape photography tips and tricks under the eye of a professional photographer, you will float in a saline lake and learn the geological importance of the region's ecosystem.

The day starts at Cejar Lagoon where the high salinity carries you across the surface of the lake without needing to stroke or kick. Swimming is optional yet highly recommended. After drying off, you will visit the Tebenquinche Lagoon to study the salt deposits from the lakeside. There is a relaxed lunch interlude in the town of Toconao where you will tour its main square and side streets. The afternoon concludes at the Atacama Salt Flat in the Chaxa Lagoon where flamingos wade in the shallows for shrimp. Throughout the day, photography remains the priority. 

This is an immersive exploration of the flora and fauna of the Salar de Atacama focusing on photography. Mirko—schooled in the geology and geography of the region—will impart knowledge sharpened by years of living in San Pedro de Atacama. He will explain the fragility of the ecosystems and provide insight into why the Indigenous Licanantay people consider the lagoons and volcanoes sacred. As a professional photographer, he will train your eye to capture the smallest of details and mentor you through the stages of capturing landscapes and close-ups.

The experience also includes the option to swim in Cejar Lagoon; a thrilling experience which fosters a deeper connection with the environment and supports with acclimatizing to this parched landscape. Concluding in the Chaxa Lagoon, you are likely to encounter all three species of resident flamingo: Chilean, Andean, and James's. The pace is unhurried as you study their movements and capture their pink hues against the turquoise lagoon.

In this studio visit you'll meet an architect who is playing with ways to use objects the city leaves behind — cement blocks, plastic crates, shattered tiles, and other things that often slip into invisibility. 

Inspired by his background in environmental design, Javier transforms such fragments into sculptural furniture such as chairs, tables and shelves. Each piece is a constellation of temporalities and forgotten stories, a collection and reconfiguration of objects found throughout CDMX, which Javier sources himself.

Javier will welcome you to his studio and share his process, sharing how walking, gathering, and assembling have become methods to map the city and its leftovers. He'll discuss what his design work says about Mexico City, and also how he's approached this work in other cities such as London, where he's been an artist in residence. 

The experience offers a unique window into how design can be responsive, situated and radically resourceful, as well as being sculptural.

This exclusive experience offers rare access to Javier's studio in central Mexico City, where objects in various stages of development reveal the intuitive and speculative nature of his work. Every piece is singular and made with wild, non-standard measurements and joined using simple, reversible techniques. More than a studio tour, this visit is a conversation on contemporary design, ecological imagination, and the aesthetics of reuse — a slow, thoughtful look at the anatomy of urban space through its overlooked material life.

Guests will be welcomed with a curated selection of light refreshments, including artisanal breads, seasonal fruits, and a variety of regional tastings. Javier Guzmán Cervantes is an artist, designer, and builder based in Mexico City. His work explores residual realities in the contemporary metropolis, developing domestic infrastructures, furniture, and structural systems through low-tech and autonomous processes out of debris, residues, and material fragments gathered through urban exploration. In this process, he engages with concepts such as degrowth, living otherwise, and post-development, questioning the role of art, design and construction in relation to sustainability and community.

Through direct contact with the city, Javier's practice transforms discarded objects into local resources, creating not only tactical approaches to construction but also serving as traces of life and local processes within the city: revealing stories.

In 2023, he founded Ex Soup, an art and design experiment based in Mexico City that uses walking, urban wandering, and low-tech methods to collect and reassemble the city’s remains.

Japan

This hands-on craft experience is hosted a kintsugi artisan, Satoko, who has been teaching the art and philosophy of this traditional Japanese technique in Kyoto for several years.

The workshop begins with a relaxing tea time, during which you'll be able to get to know your host and learn about her background in kintsugi. From there, you'll learn the history and aesthetics of kintsugi while handling finished pieces created by your host. As you admire the gold-lined cracks, Satoko will walk you through each step of the process and introduce the traditional tools and materials you’ll use — including some that you’ll prepare by hand.

Then, it’s time to practice. You’ll repair a broken ceramic piece using lacquer and real gold powder — that draws the eye to the details. Throughout the session, your hosts offer individual guidance to ensure your piece becomes a personal and beautiful expression of this philosophy.

Set in a private room in a Kyoto restaurant, this experience is completely private for you to enjoy the traditional kintsugi process. Your host has extensive experience as a kintsugi artisan and is a dedicated teacher who has introduced international guests to kintsugi through years of patient, thoughtful instruction.

Unlike many modern-day kintsugi workshops that have been modified to simplify or speed up the process for large groups of guests, this experience remains true to traditional materials and processes. It’s designed to give you an authentic kintsugi experience using the highest quality natural materials. You will even use real gold powder - which is the traditional material used in kintsugi – so you can achieve the most stunning results from your hard work in the studio.

She discovered kintsugi after that, and for a decade since, she has devoted herself to mastering this art of repair. She regards kintsugi as a philosophy — a poetic expression of imperfection and renewal. Today, she is delighted to share it not only as a craft, but as l'art de vivre (the art of living).

Satoko emphasizes traditional kintsugi — using natural urushi lacquer, patient curing times, and deliberate methods rather than shortcuts — to offer students an authentic, slow, and deeply rewarding experience. In this workshop, she ensures you work with thoughtfully prepared materials and receive guidance at every stage. Your finished piece will reflect the beauty and resilience found in restoration.

Argentina

This morning brunch immerses you in the culture of yerba mate, Argentina’s beloved herbal drink. Jointly hosted by Aby, a Buenos Aires chef, and Bertie, a sommelier, you will learn about mate’s history and how the drink has become ritualistic in contemporary culture. Taking place in a private tasting room in the heart of Palermo, you will prepare mate step by step and come to understand the differences between regional herbs. Mate, pronounced “MAH-tay,” is accompanied by a selection of sweet and savoury foods prepared by Aby to bring out the nuances of the herbs.

Not only is Aby a professional chef, she is also a passionate storyteller who thrives on sharing Argentine culture through food. This experience is brought to life through her narration, drawing on her experiences growing up in an Argentine household and anecdotes from life in Buenos Aires. We recommend eating only a light breakfast at your hotel on the morning of this experience.

During your stay in Buenos Aires, you’ll rarely spot a local without their trusty satchel of mate apparatus: a gourd, bombilla, and thermos of hot water. However, as this beloved herbal infusion is absent from cafés and restaurants, Aby and Bertie’s experience is a rare opportunity to sample this unique — and somewhat surprising — beverage in the company of local porteños. Furthermore, it is unusual to find a brunch option in Buenos Aires, with many locals saving their appetite for lunch.

Aby’s homemade pastries are curated to soften and highlight the flavours of the mate. Items vary but typically include chipá (cheesy yuca bread), pepas (cookies), medialunas de jamón y queso (grilled croissant with ham and cheese), queso y dulce (cheese and quince jelly), and seasonal fruit. Although mate is usually shared between friends, you will have your own mate gourd and bombilla to drink from. The brunch concludes with a mimosa or sparkling wine using Argentine ingredients.

Bertie, an English Sommelier, and Aby, an Argentine chef, are a Buenos Aires-based couple dedicated to sharing food, wine, and excellent company. Aby has been cooking traditional Argentine food since she was a child — helping at family gatherings — and Bertie has worked as a professional sommelier since 2008. 

The couple met by chance in Rio de Janeiro in 2014. What began as conversations about flavors and cultures soon grew into a partnership rooted in curiosity and hospitality. Since 2016, they’ve been running wine discovery and cooking classes together, creating meaningful experiences that celebrate regional traditions, local producers, and the joy of exploring Argentina one glass at a time. The couple have established an intimate tasting room in Palermo Hollywood, and offer their wine flights and meals shared around a big table - the Argentine way! 

Set out on a sensory and genuinely unusual experience of music, food, nature, and company, helmed by the bandoneonista and composer Captain Ariel Hernández on his 1940s wooden riverboat. Once aboard Flor de Ceibo, you sail into a five-hour journey through the Tigre Delta, just 45 minutes north of Buenos Aires. Captain Ariel’s carefully chosen route carries you along quiet branches of the river past stilted houses, while the sounds of the water, birdsong, and rustling trees set the tone. 

Casting anchor in a peaceful stretch of the delta, you share an onboard asado (Argentine barbecue) with Captain Ariel, followed by a live performance by him on the bandoneón, the portable reed instrument that became the defining voice of tango. Ariel explains the instrument’s path from religious music in Germany to the tango halls of the Río de la Plata. Although the boat can accommodate up to seven passengers, the experience is capped at four to preserve comfort and intimacy. 

This is not simply a boat trip, but something closer to poetry on the water. It begins with the boat itself, a beautiful heirloom from the 1940s, from a world of wooden craftsmanship now largely replaced by fiberglass. It continues with the bandoneón, an instrument brought to Argentina in the late 19th century whose melancholic voice became the emotional centerpiece of tango, echoing the feelings of immigrants building new lives far from home.

But it is your host who makes this experience stand apart. Captain Ariel is the only bandoneón-playing captain operating boat trips on the Tigre Delta. Beyond showing you the nature of the world’s youngest and still-evolving delta, he invites you to form a connection with the environment and the people who live there — waving to locals who reside among the ceibo trees and marvel at the presence of Flor de Ceibo as it moves through the water. He shares his music, but also his story, explaining how he came to be the bandoneón-playing boatsman.

Captain Ariel Hernández is a bandoneón player, composer, singer, and river captain whose life is shaped by two enduring Argentine traditions: tango and the waterways of the Tigre Delta. Born in Buenos Aires, Ariel trained as a musician from a young age and developed a deep connection to the bandoneón, the melancholic instrument whose voice defines tango. Over the years, he has performed across Argentina and abroad, collaborating with orchestras, ensembles, and fellow tango artists while helping preserve the expressive spirit of the genre.

After returning to Buenos Aires, Captain Ariel found a way to unite music with life in Tigre. From his 1940s wooden boat, Flor de Ceibo—named after the national flower—he guides guests along the delta’s winding waterways and offers intimate bandoneón performances. He also welcomes guests to his riverside home for evenings of music and conversation. In addition to leading excursions, Ariel continues to work as a composer.

When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

What does the southern end of the world look like? After five and a half l-o-n-g hours from Punta Arenas, out of the blue appears Hotel Explora Salto Chico - and it’s breathtaking. With a stunning, modern countenance, views-to-die-for of Torres del Paine (the Towers) and Cuernos del Paine (the Horns), and the sound of the Salto Chico waterfall as we linger over amazing food and excellent Chilean wine.

The Explora guides ensure they get us out of bed. My favorite experience - a day-long hike to Grey glacier. And when we get really close, our guides hop into a little boat to fetch thousand-year-old ice from the glacier for little drinks of Pisco Sour! 

Patagonia’s Parc Nacional Torres del Paine has picture postcard views everywhere. If you are a keen hiker, try the Circuit or the W. I stick to day hikes as a rule - if you are like me, try Grey Glacier, French Valley Glacier or Base of the Paine Towers.

Going to Extremes

Chile’s Rainbow Valley (Valle del Arcoíris) is a hidden geological wonder in the Atacama Desert, known for its vibrant, multicolored rock formations shaped by volcanic activity and mineral deposits over millions of years. Located about 90 km (56 miles) from San Pedro de Atacama, this surreal landscape offers a stunning contrast of reds, greens, yellows, and whites, making it a dream destination for photographers and nature lovers.

1. Colorful rock formations, created by iron (red), copper (green), sulfur (yellow), and calcium (white), offer a breathtaking natural display.

2. Scenic hiking trails allow visitors to explore the valley’s canyons, ridges, and unique geological features up close.

3. A remote, peaceful atmosphere, far from the tourist crowds, makes it a perfect spot for quiet exploration and photography.

4. Petroglyphs at Yerbas Buenas, located nearby, showcase ancient rock carvings made by indigenous Atacameño people, adding a cultural and historical dimension to the visit.

5. Panoramic views of the Domeyko Mountain Range, with its striking colors and jagged peaks, provide a spectacular backdrop for landscape photography.

Visitor Tip: Visit in the early morning or late afternoon for the best lighting and cooler temperatures. Due to the rough terrain, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, and bringing water, sunscreen, and a hat is essential for the desert climate.

Rainbow Valley

Nestled in the heart of the Priorat wine region, Falset is a small town surrounded by rolling vineyards and stunning mountain views. Known for its wine culture, it’s an ideal base for wine tasting tours or scenic bike rides through the countryside.
1. The town’s wine cellars, or “cellers,” offer tastings of the region’s famed red wines.
2. Cycling routes take you past terraced vineyards and picturesque landscapes.
3. Visit the Wine Museum to learn about the history and production of Priorat wines.
4. Local markets offer regional products such as olive oil and artisan cheeses.

Falset (Priorat Wine Region)

Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal, is one of the world's most beautiful bookstores. Known for its stunning neo-Gothic architecture, it's a landmark of cultural significance. Top 5 highlights:
1.  Artistic Entrance: Upon entering Livraria Lello, you are greeted by the elaborate façade, a blend of Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau styles. The striking exterior, with intricate carvings and vividly painted figures, sets the stage for the wonders inside. 
2.  Staircase to Wonder: The centerpiece of Livraria Lello is its iconic red staircase. This winding stairway, a masterpiece of craftsmanship, leads visitors to a rich collection of books. Livraria Lello Bookstore

The largest (not highest) waterfalls in the world are located in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. It's a breathtaking spectacle to hear, see and feel the masses of water cascading down the landscape, and along the way, you'll see beautiful rainbows, coatis, and birds.
To get there, you'll fly to Puerto Iguazú and stay at one of the local hostels. We took this colorful train to the falls, and then you hike a bit on very accessible trails. Take your camera, because you'll want to show these views to your friends and family back home. Later in the evening you can watch the sunset and have a nice view of the three-country border – a river that separates Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.
After visiting the Argentine side of the falls, you can take a trip to Brazil to experience the other side of the falls as well. On the Brazilian side, you can also visit a local botanical garden where you can observe mockingbirds, butterflies, monkeys, and other tropical animals.

A incredible waterfall scenary

Philippines

This was my first time visiting Gigantes Islands, and I was struck by the raw beauty of its cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround its secluded beaches. There are several islands that you can hop in to and my favorite one is what the locals call the “mini boracay” because the sand sure feels like that in Boracay. Other islands are as equally awesome like the Bantigue sandbar, and Cabugay. We also explored the local neighborhood and sure has its own interesting stories. For one, I discovered that due to the abundance of scallops in the island, there’s a neighborhood that stands on a land area that’s made up of scallop shells that is meters thick! Just imagine how much scallops shells that would’ve taken. There’s a lot to explore but if you just want something that’s relaxed, you can just have a good beer by the beach from sunset til night. 

Gigantes Islands

A horse carriage ride by night in Ronda offers a magical way to explore this historic town, known for its dramatic landscapes, ancient architecture, and timeless Andalusian charm. As the sun sets and the warm glow of streetlights illuminates Ronda’s cobbled streets, the rhythmic clip-clop of horses’ hooves creates a serene and romantic atmosphere. This leisurely ride allows you to experience Ronda’s beauty under the night sky, passing iconic landmarks like the Puente Nuevo and the old town’s Moorish streets in a peaceful, dream-like setting.

1. Puente Nuevo by Moonlight: The horse-drawn carriage will take you across or around the Puente Nuevo, where you can admire the gorge’s steep cliffs bathed in moonlight. The sight of the towering bridge lit up at night is unforgettable, offering a different, more intimate perspective than during the day.

Old Town (La Ciudad): As you roll through Ronda’s ancient streets, you’ll pass whitewashed houses, beautiful churches, and old palaces like the Palacio de Mondragón, all softly illuminated by night. The old town’s narrow, winding lanes are even more enchanting under the glow of the street lamps.

3. Plaza de Toros and Alameda del Tajo: Your ride will likely pass by the historic Ronda Bullring, which takes on an atmospheric aura at night. Nearby, the Alameda del Tajo park offers beautiful nighttime views over the surrounding countryside from the cliffs.

4. Romantic Ambiance: The gentle motion of the carriage, combined with the quiet of Ronda’s streets at night, creates a wonderfully romantic experience. It’s a perfect way to take in the town’s beauty at a slower, more intimate pace.

Tip: Wrap up warmly, especially during cooler months, and bring a camera to capture the softly lit streets and scenic nighttime views of Ronda’s most famous landmarks.

Ronda: Horse Carriage by Night

Türkiye

Antalya, Turkey, is home to the Kurşunlu Waterfall Nature Park, a hidden gem nestled within a lush pine forest just 20 km (12 miles) from the city center. This enchanting natural retreat features a cascading waterfall, turquoise pools, and scenic walking trails, making it a perfect escape for nature lovers and photographers. With its tranquil atmosphere, rich wildlife, and shaded picnic areas, Kurşunlu Waterfall is an ideal spot for a relaxing break from Antalya’s bustling coastline.

1. The main waterfall, cascading from 18 meters (59 feet) into an emerald-green lagoon, creates a stunning photo opportunity and a peaceful ambiance.

2. Scenic walking trails wind through the park, leading visitors past smaller waterfalls, wooden bridges, and hidden caves.

3. The park is home to rich wildlife, including turtles, fish, and various bird species, making it a great spot for birdwatching and nature photography.

4. Shaded picnic areas allow visitors to enjoy a relaxing meal surrounded by nature, with the sound of flowing water in the background.

5. Cool, refreshing air provides a welcome escape from Antalya’s summer heat, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

Visitor Tip: Visit early in the morning to enjoy the falls without crowds. Wear comfortable shoes, as some paths can be slippery, and bring insect repellent if visiting in the warmer months.

Kurşunlu Waterfall Nature Park

Tanzania

We spend nearly four amazing hours in the Sand River Circuit in the midst of a spectacular head of grunting wildebeest. Led by “collective intelligence”, these animals complete a 1000 mile loop over the course of a year, and most survive for several seasons of this tough journey! 

When we arrive in the Grumeti Reserves, further south, we find the last few hundred thousand or so wildebeest. Here they are extremely purposeful and move in a single-file. Perhaps they have realized that they are late and will miss out on all the new green grass in the northern plains. They kick up a storm of dust as they move forward with determination - though it is not unusual to see the whole herd running swiftly back if something ahead spooks them. 

It is here that we see the consequences of the ‘battle’ - injured animals or those too weary to complete the journey. This is sad to watch as they will soon become easy prey to the predators. 

Such is the ⭕️ of life.
