From November through April, this experience plunges you into Catalonia’s artichoke season. A 30-minute private transfer (20 km) from Barcelona brings you to a farmhouse nestled in the fertile Llobregat Delta — a region where artichokes dominate 25 % of cultivated land. On arrival, you’ll walk among squat, glossy-leafed plants and harvest plump artichoke buds — grown in mineral-rich delta soil and kissed by sea breezes — with their peak sweetness emerging in winter’s cool days. Chile

This full-day experience immerses you in the Atacama's most dramatic scenery: its geysers, high-altitude wetlands, and volcanic highlands. Unlike most tours to El Tatio (Los Géisers del Tatio) which depart before dawn, Valeria's experience takes place once the crowds have thinned and the late-morning light draws out the remarkable hues of the minerals. A naturalist guide with a keen knowledge of geology, Valeria dives deep into this phenomenal region of geysers, fumaroles, and mud pools before leading you on a gentle hike (at 4,200 m.a.s.l.).

The excursion continues at the rarely-visited Río Blanco Wetland (Humedal de Río Blanco). Fed by a river carrying meltwater from the Andes, this green corridor — popular with vicuñas and flamingoes — is a shock amid the arid landscape and a particular delight for wildlife lovers. As you make your way back down to San Pedro, you will call at the Machuca and Putana wetlands and reflect on these diverse ecosystems in the Atacama Northern Highlands.

Everyone knows about the Tatio Geysers, and everyone wishes to witness the world's highest geothermal field as part of their Altiplano safari. But Valeria's experience goes beyond the typical sightseeing tour; she's taking you off-piste and showing you there's more than vapor. Arriving after the sunrise show, you are able to appreciate the colors of the mineral deposits, the bubbling mud pools, and the geyser vents, which are tricky to see in the low light of dawn. Italy

Venice’s history is inseparable from its bond with the water that surrounds it. This experience begins where the lagoon meets the entrance of the Grand Canal, reading the skyline of San Giorgio and Punta della Dogana as a way into the city’s past.

The navigation continues around Punta della Dogana and the Basilica della Salute, following lines that reveal stories of commerce, devotion and resilience. From here the route moves toward islands that marked important moments in the life of the Republic. San Lazzaro highlights its Armenian heritage, while Lazzaretto Nuovo, once part of the city’s quarantine system, recalls the measures that protected the Republic.

The passage through the Arsenale opens a view of Venice as a maritime power, with basins and gateways that still convey its scale. The loop around San Michele, Venice’s cemetery island, brings a different register, with its walls and cypress trees marking the city’s relationship with memory before returning toward San Marco.

Understanding Venice through its waterline gives access to the forces that defined the city across politics, health, faith and maritime power. The drive through Andøya and Senja was so spectacular that we wanted to abandon our itinerary and stay on the islands overnight vs. driving into Tromsø. And then I would have missed a dramatic sunset/dawn. Everything - sky, sea, windows on buildings, Arctic Church, mountain tops - blazed fiery red for an hour before turning into several shades of blue, with bright pink thrown in for effect. It stayed like that all night long. 

The locals can’t seem to stop partying through Friday night all along Storgata, so the people-watching is riveting. We’ve got to sleep at some point, we kept telling each other.

Teatro Colón

Australia

Kakadu National Park is half the size of Switzerland and a real adventure. If you rent a car, you could drive along the road for weeks, camping in different places and experiencing nature in a way you can't anywhere else.

After leaving Darwin in a rented 4x4 jeep, we made the long drive to Kakadu National Park. Take plenty of drinks and snacks with you, as there aren't many stops on the road. Along the way, we visited several refreshing waterholes and waterfalls, had an open-air barbecue, and saw many birds, snakes, anthills, and farmland along the way.

At night we mostly stayed at campsites that provided tents, and the beauty of the night is incomparable. You can hear, smell, and see countless species of animals, from alligators swimming in lakes at night to dingoes howling, to weirdly chirping insects.

We hiked to a hidden waterfall and discovered some hundreds-of-years-old wooden paintings done by the ancestors of Australia's indigenous people. A must-see in Australia for sure!

Camping: Kakadu National Park
