Carnevale in Mamoiada (February 15 and 17, 2026) immerses you in the rich culture of Sardinia’s festivities. You'll learn how to hold the brush, apply vibrant natural pigments, and guide the floating colors into intricate shapes like "battal" (stone pattern) or "nightingale's nest." As the pigments dance on water, you’ll gain insight into the meanings woven into each pattern. What makes this experience truly special is the host Nesime, a master artist who has been practicing Ebru for over a decade. You’ll be welcomed into her private gallery. She will guide you through the technical foundations—holding special brushes, applying pigments, using the “tekne” (water tray), and shaping intricate patterns—explaining the symbolism of each design. Having trained with renowned marblers and calligraphers, she studied classical bookbinding and miniature art, blending multiple Turkish art forms in her work. Since 2009, she has taught Ebru at her Galatart Workshop, where her background and personal dedication bring depth and authenticity to every workshop.

Kyoto-based artist Rachel takes you on a relaxing journey exploring the breathtaking scenery of Kyoto's Higashiyama area where at each destination, she will teach you how to capture the elegant beauty of Kyoto using Japanese watercolors.

You will stroll through neighborhoods featuring temples, shrines, parks, and rustic buildings in search of inspiration, but at a gentle pace that allows you to see authentic life in Kyoto that you might miss by trying to maximize the number of highlights you can visit in one day. In fact, Rachel lets you set the pace for the day, whether you prefer to visit more locations to do some quick sketches or just a few doing in-depth sketching.

As you explore, Rachel will explain the rich history and culture about the places you will visit, paying close attention to the details and nuances a casual visitor might overlook. During your walk, you'll have time to enjoy a snack featuring a local Kyoto specialty, and of course, a tea to go along with it.

Drawing from her experience as a long-time resident artist of Kyoto, Rachel has selected an area with a variety of sketchable locations that are completely customizable based on seasons, weather, and your skills and interests. Whether it be the majestic Gion Weeping Cherry Tree in the Spring, stone-lined streets of Nene-no-Michi in Autumn, or a snow-dusted Yasaka Pagoda in the Winter, Rachel’s helpful instructions will have you creating a unique watercolor keepsake of your memories of Kyoto. She’ll also provide a bit of history and cultural context of the places you visit that will enrich your Kyoto experience.

Rachel believes the analog process of sketching during travel helps people connect better with their destination and teaches them to observe details more closely. Rachel is an artist and instructor based in Kyoto, Japan. Combining her formal Western art training with her ongoing studies of Eastern art traditions (such as sumi-e ink painting), her work is focused on expressively capturing the scenery of Kyoto en plein air.

Her watercolor paintings of Kyoto have been featured in the Kyoto Journal and her sumi-e paintings displayed in the Nippon Suibokuga Art Association's annual shows.

An experienced educator, she has offered on-site sketching and painting classes in Kyoto for over 7 years, working with a full range of ages and experience levels. Her instruction style is personalized and supportive, aimed at giving participants both the practical skills and confidence to continue creating art of their own.

Her philosophy is that by taking time to sketch and paint, whether while traveling or in daily life, one can forge a special relationship with one's surroundings and make unforgettable memories.

This is a 4.5-hour walking tour that showcases Milan's enduring artistic heritage. The tour begins with a visit to the stunningly preserved and often overlooked Ca' Granda, originally a major hospital and now home to Milan’s University. Commissioned by Duke Francesco Sforza in 1456 and designed by architect Filarete, its avant-garde design became a model for European hospitals. Despite wartime damages, its fifteenth-century courtyards and rebuilt eighteenth-century facade remain breathtaking. The tour includes the library and the icehouse. This 7-day itinerary through Portugal’s western Algarve invites you to experience the region through the lens of João Ministro—Fernwayer experience-maker, expert in responsible tourism and regional development, and a lifelong student of the land.

“In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”
What João wants travelers to experience is that same connection: the gestures and flavors that tie people to place. “We still recognize these things—the tradition of fishing, the dry fruits, the rituals of picking and preparing. This is what I want travelers to connect with.”
Still, he knows it's not always simple. “The Algarve is quite diverse. It’s not just one story. A good connection to the people here is important. This museum, housed in the Palacio de Villahermosa, a striking 18th-century neoclassical palace, showcases a vast collection that spans eight centuries. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1992 and is a pivotal part of Madrid's famed 'Golden Triangle of Art.' Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

Mexico

The Mayan culture is one of the most important indigenous cultures in Southern Mexico. Artifacts from bygone times stretch far across the jungles of Quintana Roos and Chiapas. 

If you want to learn more about how indigenous peoples lived before colonization, don't miss the ruins of Palenque. Arguably the largest Mayan ruins on the continent, they're tucked away, deeply hidden in the Mexican jungle. The highlights of the actual ruins are the numerous temples, a palace and aqueducts, and of course, a guided tour where you can learn all about Mexico's history. If you venture out into the jungle, you'll encounter rare wildlife like monkeys, colorful birds, and giant snakes.

Take sunscreen, plenty of water, and some snacks, as the tour takes at least half a day.

Visit Ancient Mayan Ruins

Colombia

Nestled between the historic fortresses of San Sebastian and Santa Catalina, La Caleta Beach is a picturesque urban retreat that encapsulates the soul of Cádiz. This beach, the smallest among Cádiz’s urban beaches, forms a natural cove that has served as a peaceful harbor since Phoenician times. Its golden sands and gentle waves invite you to relax and soak in the serene atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a tranquil sunset stroll.
Best Times to Visit and Activities: La Caleta Beach is a year-round destination, with the summer months from June to October being ideal for swimming. The beach fills with life as locals and visitors alike bask in the sun or enjoy the cool waters. Evenings at La Caleta are particularly magical, as the setting sun paints the sky in pastel hues. Beyond swimming, the beach's calm waters are suitable for kayaking.
Cultural Significance: La Caleta Beach is steeped in history and culture. The Spa of Our Lady of La Palma and Real, a notable structure on the beach, now houses the Underwater Archaeology Center. The beach's proximity to Cádiz’s old town means you're never far from exploring the city's rich heritage, from the majestic castles that guard the beach to the vibrant local neighborhood of La Viña.
Exploring Further: A walk along the causeway to San Sebastian Castle offers breathtaking views of the coastline and the city. Although the castle itself has been closed to tourists for some years, the walk remains a highlight.

La Caleta Beach

The charming, well-preserved streetscapes of the heritage town in Old Lijiang Is perfect for getting lost  The winding streets lure you in - and shops selling Tiquanyin tea, handmade paper, musical drums, souvenirs and food vie for the attention of tourists. 

The Naxi people of Lijiang are proud, artistic and musically talented. It's a matriarchal society, one that I relate well to, and I enjoyed my interactions with the wise women I meet.

In the market square in Lijiang Old Town, groups of Naxi women get together to perform a few dances. There is no clear structure for their activity, and the women seem to be on their own schedule - some leave after a couple of dances, others hang around. Besides their traditional costume, what is common among them is their energy and zest for life.

Lost in Old Lijiang

The Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, set in a 17th-century palace in the Janelas Verdes area of Lisbon, is a beacon of Portugal's artistic and cultural heritage. Known for housing the most extensive collection of national treasures in Portugal, the museum is a journey through time, showcasing works from the 12th to the 19th century. Top highlights:
1 - Architectural Splendor: The museum's architecture is a masterpiece in itself, with grand arches and soaring ceilings that create a mesmerizing ambience. Catalonia, Spain, is home to the La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, a stunning natural reserve featuring over 40 ancient volcanic cones and 20 lava flows. Known for its rich biodiversity, lush forests, and dramatic landscapes, this park offers a peaceful escape for hikers, nature lovers, and photographers. With its well-marked trails, charming medieval villages nearby, and unique geological formations, La Garrotxa is one of Spain’s best destinations for exploring the beauty of dormant volcanoes.


1. Hike to the summit of Santa Margarida Volcano, where a small Romanesque chapel sits dramatically in the center of its ancient crater.

La Garrotxa Natural Park

France

This city known for its wine is just gorgeous. Though hot in summer, it is stunning! Definitely worth a visit and if you have time the surroundings small town also known for their wine. 

In Bordeaux, be sure to walk down rue sainte Catherine, the longest pedestrian street in Europe! There will be plenty of shopping to do, and the main square with the cathedral is also a must see. The bell tower is not attached to the church and is able to be climbed for gorgeous views.

Emporio Village, located in the southern part of Santorini, is a picturesque and historic settlement that offers a blend of traditional Cycladic charm and medieval intrigue. Known for its labyrinthine alleys, striking architecture, and peaceful atmosphere, it is one of the island’s oldest and largest villages. Emporio’s authentic character and rich history make it a must-visit for those seeking a quieter, more cultural side of Santorini.

The Guadalquivir River Walk in Seville offers a peaceful yet vibrant way to experience the city’s charm while enjoying scenic views along one of Spain’s most historic rivers. Stretching along the banks of the Guadalquivir, this popular promenade links some of Seville’s most famous attractions, offering a blend of history, culture, and leisure activities. The river itself played a key role in Seville’s development, once serving as the main conduit for trade with the New World. Today, the walk is a favorite for both locals and tourists looking for relaxation and a touch of Seville’s past.

Highlights of the Guadalquivir River Walk:

1. Torre del Oro: Begin your walk near this iconic 13th-century tower. Its golden glow and rich history make it a perfect starting point. From here, enjoy views of the river and the surrounding monuments.

2. Triana Bridge and Market: Cross the picturesque Puente de Triana to visit the traditional Triana neighborhood, known for its flamenco roots and lively market. The market is a great spot for fresh produce, local crafts, and authentic tapas.

3. Parque de María Luisa: Along the river, you'll find this lush park, perfect for a rest amidst palm trees, fountains, and beautiful gardens. Nearby is the iconic Plaza de España, another must-see.

Guadalquivir River Walk

So amid the current situation of the world myself and two other friends managed to score flights to Colorado for $47. We rented a Jeep and decided to travel all around Colorado. This was my first time ever out west as I am an eastern girl! 

If you are ever able to visit Maroon Bells please do! Preferably at night so that you can watch the sun set over the mountain top! The sound coming from the small river combined with the smell of fresh air made me want to pitch a tent and never leave! The weather was not as cold as I expected. I was hoping to see more wild life but besides a few ducks there was none. I still had a fantastic time.

Philly Girl Out West

Whether you're strolling, shopping, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, these spots offer a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern energy.

1. Along Via Toledo, a mix of designer boutiques, local shops, and historic cafés creates a prime destination for shopping and people-watching. The street is always buzzing with life, offering a true taste of Naples’ energy.

2. Inside Galleria Umberto I, the impressive glass-and-iron dome creates a breathtaking setting for high-end stores, cafés, and restaurants. The architecture alone makes it worth a visit.

3. Street musicians and artists add a lively, creative touch to Via Toledo, making every stroll a unique experience. Their performances bring music and art to the heart of the city.

4. Just off Via Toledo, the Toledo Metro Station is considered one of the most beautiful in the world, with stunning blue mosaic art that gives the illusion of being underwater. It’s a hidden gem for photography lovers.

5. Traditional Neapolitan street food, including sfogliatella and cuoppo (a paper cone filled with fried seafood or snacks), is available from local vendors, making it easy to grab a delicious bite while exploring.

Visitor Tip: Visit in the evening when the streets come alive with lights and locals enjoying their nightly passeggiata (leisurely stroll).
