This is an exclusive once-a-year limited-seat experience -- an authentic experience partaking in just one day of the 3-day pilgrimage, joining a local brotherhood as they walk from Seville to El Rocío, beginning at dawn and stretching into the midnight hour. 

Start the early morning pickup at your Seville hotel, you'll be transported to the mystical paths traversed by the brotherhoods, known only to insiders. With a local brotherhood member as your host, you'll immerse in a day filled with singing, dancing, and ritual observances dedicated to the Virgin del Rocío. 

Along the way, you'll walk along scenic sandy paths, sit on one of the horse drawn carriages when tired, immerse in unique local customs, learn the traditional dances, partake in communal meals featuring regional cuisine, and experience the heartfelt sung prayers that echo the pilgrims' deep devotion.

Seville Departure

The road to El Rocío is much more than a simple pilgrimage; it is a journey where emotions overflow and experiences become indelible memories. During the journey, there is an atmosphere of camaraderie and brotherhood, where the pilgrims support each other, sing sevillanas and pray together. Laughter, singing and weeping mingle in a whirlwind of mixed feelings.

 

As the pilgrims make their way, they pass through beautiful natural landscapes, cross streams and wade through marshes. The encounters with other brotherhoods, the moments of rest on the paths, the stops at the hermitages and the arrival at the different camping sites become memorable milestones on this journey.

You will gather under the shade of old olive trees for a communal midday meal that marks the midpoint of the day. Here, pilgrims enjoy traditional Andalusian dishes served by itinerant restaurants that follow the pilgrimage route.

The midday meal serves as an epicenter of daily festivities, where traditional singing, dancing, and other cultural rituals unfold. It's a vibrant display of local customs, including impromptu flamenco dances and the sharing of regional delicacies, embodying the spirit of Andalusian hospitality and celebration.

Continue the journey on foot or by horse-drawn carriage. This segment allows you to fully immerse in the experience, either by walking alongside the pilgrims or riding among them, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.

The choice between walking and riding offers different perspectives of the pilgrimage. Whether on foot or wheels, you witness the lively expressions of faith and culture that characterize this event.

Pilgrims journey over 60 kilometres by foot, horseback, or in carts, navigating paths and marshes. This trek is both a physical and spiritual challenge, showcasing their fervour and dedication.

Join the Pilgrimage

After a short walk where you acclimatize to the warm and sunny weather, the scenery and the pace, you will join the congregation of pilgrims for a traditional Andalusian breakfast. This social gathering is an integral part of the pilgrimage, where bonds are formed over shared meals like pan con tomate and café con leche.

The sounds of cowbells and horse hooves along with the creaking of caravan wheels will fill the air as you walk, accompanied by the melodic tunes of flamenco guitars and harmonious singing. The dusty roads transform into a vibrant festival scene.

You will be warmly welcomed in the midst of the families. Engage with them and learn how they prepare for this revered annual trek.

One Day in El Rocio's Pilgrimage

**Limited Seats available for June 4-6, 2025. This is a rare-access, only once-a-year fiesta experience. 2026 bookings will open on June 1, 2025.** This Experience accommodates a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 participants to make base costs and logistics work. Included are: transportation from Seville and back, all meals and drinks, access to horse carriages as needed for resting, a local host from one of Seville’s brotherhoods to accompany you through the journey and provide insider access. 

Comfortable walking shoes for navigating the sandy terrains. A hat or capto shield yourself from the intense Andalusian sun. A water bottle and camera. Men should opt for a breathable white shirt made of linen or hemp, paired with pants in shades of blue, dark green, or brown. Women may prefer a long skirt or dress, suitable for both walking and riding. Additional Note: Please be aware that restroom facilities are sparse along the route. Pilgrims typically make use of natural areas for breaks.
