This 3.5-hour photography experience takes place in two of the most beautiful and culturally rich neighborhoods in Buenos Aires: La Boca and San Telmo. Led by a professional travel photographer from Buenos Aires, you will explore these streets with your own camera and learn how to capture the kinds of imagery usually seen in guidebooks and brochures.  Bernardo will steer you past iconic sights and down hidden passageways, illuminating architectural features easily spotted by the typical traveler. You will also fall into the natural rhythm of these bohemian districts and hear about the people who have shaped their development over the centuries.

The experience is designed for beginner photographers through to those with an existing knowledge of photography. It is best experienced with a DSLR or mirrorless camera however cell phones are also welcome. Tripods are not necessary although carrying a variety of lenses is a bonus.

This photographic experience is designed to introduce you to the most bohemian, visually enticing, and culturally stimulating neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Rather than a standard walking tour, you will explore La Boca and San Telmo from the perspective of a professional photographer, an artist, and a Porteño local. Bernardo will guide you along La Caminito—the “Little Street” also referred to as an open-air street museum—where you will be immersed in the area’s vibrant history of tango and street art. From behind the lens, you will trace (and capture) the contrasts between these colorful tenement residences and modern structures.

You will also explore the bustling market which has stood in San Telmo since the late 19th century and pass by one of the oldest churches in Buenos Aires and the city’s narrowest house. Delivered at an unhurried pace, you will fall into the natural rhythm of these historic barrios and have the opportunity to capture everyday life as well as the buildings.

You’ll begin in Oia before the crowds arrive, following the old sailors' trail where they used to build boats and move them rooftop to rooftop; now, they plant vibrant bougainvilleas. Just a gentle walk shaped by stories.

In a smaller village, you’ll pause in a shaded kafeneio for Greek coffee, fresh juice or lemonade, with birdsong and conversation replacing the usual noise. Maria, a lifetime member of the Santorini community, shares stories of life on the island. The moment invites presence, not performance.

There’s also time to stop at a peaceful viewpoint—like Profitis Ilias or Windmill Hill—for reflection and a sweeping view. Chile

Try your hand at making a "lucky" clay pig known as a Chanchito in the intimate studio of a local artist near Valparaíso. No prior experience is necessary and this 1.5-hour crafting experience is perfect for children and adults of all ages. 

Chanchitos are three-legged pigs which are typically made in the village of Pomaire in Chile. This art experience uses a special type of clay which is easy to work with and dries quickly, meaning the finished Chanchito is ready to take away on the day. Over the course of the workshop, you will hear the history of the Chanchito and their significance in Chile. 

You'll also enjoy an inspirational view of the Pacific Ocean from Marcela's private terrace while enjoying soft refreshments and local pastries. If you're lucky, you may even get to sample "pancito amasado" bread baked by Marcela's father, a retired lighthouse keeper.

This fun pottery activity is relaxed and accessible to novice sculptors and potters of all ages. The finished Chanchito is small enough to slip into even the smallest bag and may be kept for yourself or gifted to a loved one back home to bring them luck. While you work, Marcela will explain the history behind these three-legged pigs typically made in Pomaire. She will share further insight on the development of Chilean art and crafts from pre-Columbian times to the modern day as well as mythological stories. While in her studio, you can check out what she is currently working on and hear about her artistic achievements.

Marcela's studio is attached to her home above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concon, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This area is often skipped by international tourists which means you get to experience a truly local community. To conclude your trip to Concon, Marcela will recommend local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile".

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist who grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis in the US and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico, at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at CasaPlan in Valparaíso.

Mexico

This is an uncommon dawn capsule in Xochimilco — paddle-driven and nature-focused — you’re back in the city before the canals get busy. Private pickup from your accommodation in Mexico City gets you to the World Heritage wetlands in time for sunrise. 

You board a cayuco — a native, paddle-driven canoe — for a two-hour canoeing adventure through ancestral canals and the man-made farm islands known as chinampas, in use for over a thousand years. Along the way you’ll take in seasonal flora and fauna — marigolds and water lilies on the surface, wading and water birds such as herons, and native aquatic life like charal and frogs. 

As you paddle, your host — an expert in environmental sustainability and Xochimilco’s culture — sets the scene with history and biodiversity. The Mafra Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the most important Baroque structure (and the largest building) in Portugal. It was commissioned by King Dom João V in the 18th century, funded by the wealth coming from Brazil. The complex is organized around central interior courtyards, where the Basilica, Convent, and Palace meet and intersect. This architectural complex represents one of the artistic, architectural, and cultural highlights of Portugal.

The Mafra Palace-Basilica-Convent is unique for its scale, sumptuousness, and quality of architecture and decoration. Some highlights include the Infirmary, the Throne Hall, and the Library, which holds about 35,000 rare books. The Basilica is adorned with a unique collection of Italian Baroque statues (the largest outside Italy), six historical pipe organs, and two carillons composed of nearly 100 bells.

The building is also a very important landmark in Portuguese history. It originally reflected the wealth and power of King João V but also represents the lives of several other kings who spent time there, in the surrounding gardens or the nearby royal hunting park. King Manuel II spent his last night in Portugal in one of its rooms before leaving the kingdom forever after the fall of the monarchy in 1910, departing from the nearby Ericeira village beach.

The Cerco Garden stands on one of the flanks of the Convent-Palace. Initially designed and inspired by Versailles, only a small part of the garden was completed. Despite this, it remains a very pleasant space, featuring a century-old irrigation noria, reflective water mirrors, a vegetable medicinal garden once used by monks, and a leafy park surrounding it.

Cerco Garden serves as the perfect transition between the vast, walled former Royal Hunting area, known as Tapada Real, and the monumental Convent-Palace. It beautifully combines nature, agriculture, and gardening. The forest and gardens span over eight hectares, offering shady corners, waterfalls, and even a unique vegetable garden—Horta dos Frades—where plants were once used to produce medicinal products during the Convent’s time.

“In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”

Balos Lagoona

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to Librería El Ateneo Grand Splendid, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Housed in a former 1919 theater, this breathtaking bookstore retains its original balconies, ornate ceiling frescoes, and plush red stage curtains, creating a truly magical atmosphere for book lovers and photographers alike. Whether browsing for literature, sipping coffee under a grand dome, or simply admiring the architecture, El Ateneo is an unmissable cultural gem in Buenos Aires.


1. The grand theater setting, with its original curved balconies, golden moldings, and a hand-painted frescoed ceiling, offers a unique and historic ambiance.

2. A vast collection of books, including works in Spanish and English, covering literature, history, philosophy, and art—perfect for any reader.

Librería El Ateneo

You can't spend holidays in Barcelona without also visiting the Sagrada Familia. It's probably the city's biggest attraction – and for a good reason. 

La Sagrada, a Roman Catholic church, dates back to the 19th century but is still under construction (some expect it to be finished by 2026, but in my view, 2030 is a safer bet). We opted for a walking tour to the monumental building with high pinnacles, numerous squiggles, and 3-dimensional interior design. Later, during the tour, we discovered the works of art by Sagrada’s architect Gaudi, including Casa Batllo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera). 

The Sagrada Familia is located a little northeast of the city center and is easily reached by metro, bus, or cab. We stayed about 5 hours in this part of the city – as we visited not only the church but also the surrounding area and had some fresh fish to eat in the nearby restaurants. You’ll also find many souvenirs – including miniature La Sagradas, a great gift to bring home!

Walking Tour: Sagrada Familia

Covering a vast area, İzmir Wildlife Park is one of Europe’s largest and most ethical zoos, offering naturalistic habitats for its diverse array of animals. Home to elephants, lions, giraffes, and more, the park emphasizes education and conservation while providing an engaging experience for visitors of all ages.
1. The park is home to over 120 species, including iconic animals like elephants and lions.
2. Spacious enclosures mimic the animals’ natural habitats, ensuring their well-being.
3. Interactive zones, such as petting areas, are especially popular with children.
4. Educational programs and exhibits offer valuable insights into wildlife conservation.
5. Playgrounds and picnic areas make it a family-friendly destination.
Visitor Tip: Arrive early to catch the animals during their most active hours, especially in the summer months.

İzmir Wildlife Park

Finland

At Riisitunturi National Park, ancient trees enveloped in layers of sticky snow (called ‘tykky’ in Finnish) assume fantastical shapes of monsters, ghosts, birds and families of snow people. On days like this, when sunrise and sunset happen within a two-hour window, backgrounds are brushed in pinks and yellows, and foregrounds etched with tracks of reindeer, dogs and humans. 

Snow is something more than frozen water to the Sami people. It’s a way of expressing the basis of their existence.

Best time to visit? Late December to March. Getting there from Rovaniemi takes more than 2 hours each way, but the trails are easy - we did a 4 km.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to Café Tortoni, the oldest and most famous café in the city, dating back to 1858. Steeped in history and belle époque charm, this legendary café has welcomed writers, artists, and political figures, including Jorge Luis Borges and Carlos Gardel. With its stained-glass ceilings, marble tables, and wood-paneled walls, Café Tortoni offers an authentic glimpse into Argentina’s café culture, making it a must-visit for lovers of history, coffee, and tango.


1. Classic Argentine café experience, serving strong espresso, submarino (hot chocolate with a submerged chocolate bar), and medialunas (sweet croissants).

2. Historic ambiance, with ornate chandeliers, art-covered walls, and an elegant 19th-century interior that transports visitors back in time.

3. Live tango performances in an intimate backroom, where visitors can experience the soul of Buenos Aires’ most famous dance.

4. Famous clientele, including Jorge Luis Borges, Federico García Lorca, and Carlos Gardel, whose presence is honored in various photos and sculptures inside the café.

5. Authentic porteño atmosphere, where locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy leisurely conversations over coffee and pastries.

Visitor Tip: Arrive early in the morning or late at night to avoid long queues. For a full experience, book a tango show in advance and pair it with a traditional dulce de leche dessert.

Café Tortoni

Australia

The best thing about visiting Australia is that scenic views and spectacular nature are just a stone's throw away, no matter where you are. If you're in Sydney, you won't get a better view of the ocean than walking through Royal National Park and taking Bundeena Drive to Marley Walk.

Passing through scenic heathland with small trees, you'll soon come to a bushwalk through a denser forest. We saw many native bird species, including the famous cockatoo, had a dip in one of the pools along the way, and took stunning sunset photos as you look out over the wild ocean. The tourist highlight is Wedding Cake Rock, but our personal star was Marley Beach, a dreamy, hidden sandy beach where you can relax and dip your feet in the refreshing water.

You can rent a car and drive directly to Bundeena, but we decided to take the train from Sydney to Cronulla and from there take the ferry to Bundeena.

Day Hike: wedding Cake Rock

Ericeira, a charming coastal village just 50 kilometers from Lisbon, is renowned for its scenic beauty, rich fishing heritage, and world-class surfing spots. Known as Europe’s only World Surfing Reserve, Ericeira attracts surfers from all over the globe, while also offering travelers a mix of historic charm, vibrant culinary experiences, and stunning Atlantic Ocean views. With its cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings, and golden cliffs, Ericeira is a gem of Portugal’s western coastline.

Highlights of Ericeira:

1. Walk through Ericeira’s old town, with its picturesque narrow streets, traditional blue-and-white buildings, and charming squares. This historic center is filled with local boutiques, cafes, and artisan shops, giving visitors a taste of local culture and creativity.

2. Ericeira’s beaches are a must-see, especially Ribeira d’Ilhas Beach, a hotspot for surfers of all levels. With consistent waves and a friendly surf culture, this beach is ideal for surfing enthusiasts and spectators alike, and it also hosts international surfing competitions each year.

3. Try fresh seafood at Ericeira’s many renowned seafood restaurants. The town’s strong fishing heritage is celebrated in dishes such as grilled sardines, octopus salad, and “caldeirada” (Portuguese fish stew), offering a true taste of the Atlantic.

4. Visit the World Surfing Reserve area, stretching from São Lourenço Beach to Empa Beach. This protected area has multiple surf breaks for different skill levels and is known for its natural beauty, drawing visitors to explore its rocky cliffs and pristine coastline.

	5.	Take in panoramic views from the scenic cliffs that surround the town. For a beautiful sunset, head to Pescadores Beach (Fishermen’s Beach).

Tip: Plan a day trip from Lisbon or stay overnight to enjoy the peaceful mornings and lively evenings in Ericeira. For surfers, rentals and lessons are readily available for beginners.

Explore Ericeira

Chile’s Laguna Cejar, located in the heart of the Atacama Desert, is a stunning saltwater lagoon where visitors can experience the unique sensation of floating effortlessly due to its high salt concentration, similar to the Dead Sea. Situated about 20 km (12 miles) from San Pedro de Atacama, this turquoise lagoon, surrounded by a stark white salt crust and the majestic Andes Mountains, offers an unforgettable natural experience and breathtaking photography opportunities.

1. Float effortlessly in the lagoon’s mineral-rich waters, known for their extreme buoyancy due to a salt concentration of over 40%.

2. Stunning color contrasts between the deep blue water, the white salt deposits, and the golden desert create a perfect setting for photography.

3. Views of the Licancabur Volcano and the Andes, especially during sunset, make this an unforgettable desert landscape.

4. Nearby Ojos del Salar, two perfectly round freshwater sinkholes, offer a refreshing dip for those wanting a break from the salty water.

5. Abundant birdlife, including flamingos, can often be spotted around the lagoon, adding a touch of wildlife to the visit.

Visitor Tip: Bring swimwear, a towel, and sandals, as the salt can be rough on bare feet. Avoid getting water in your eyes, as the high salt content can be irritating. Due to conservation efforts, swimming is sometimes restricted, so check local regulations before visiting.

Quarteirão de Miguel Bombarda, often referred to as Porto's art block, is a trendy area in the city, renowned for its dynamic blend of art shops, galleries, and fashionable cafés. This neighborhood has become a hub for contemporary art lovers and a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking a unique cultural experience in Porto. 

- Artistic Epicenter: The heart of Miguel Bombarda is its numerous art galleries. Each gallery offers a diverse range of contemporary art, from local emerging artists to established international names. This constant rotation of exhibitions ensures that every visit offers something new and exciting.

- Creative Shops and Boutiques: Interspersed among the galleries are various independent shops and boutiques, selling everything from handmade crafts and unique jewelry to avant-garde fashion and eclectic home decor. These shops reflect the artistic spirit of the area.

- Trendy Cafés and Eateries: The quarter is also home to an array of trendy cafés and eateries, each with its own unique ambiance. Whether you're in the mood for a gourmet coffee, a light snack, or a leisurely meal, you'll find an establishment that caters to your tastes.

- Vibrant Atmosphere: The regular opening of new exhibitions, usually synchronized among galleries, turns the area into a bustling, vibrant spot, especially on opening nights. These events often spill out onto the streets, creating a festive atmosphere.

- Cultural Events and Festivals: Miguel Bombarda hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, further establishing its reputation as a significant cultural center in Porto. These events range from art openings and music performances to street festivals.

Located within walking distance from some of Porto's main tourist attractions, Quarteirão de Miguel Bombarda is easily accessible and a must-visit for anyone interested in contemporary art and culture.
