Scuola Grande di San Rocco

Experience the elegance of the Nani Bernardo Palace, designed by Architect Vittoria in 1550. Marvel at its harmonious aspect, enriched by a valuable hidden Venetian garden. Should Nani Bernardo be unavailable, the alternative stop is Ca' Rezzonico Palace, another marvel of Venetian architecture - or a similar equally stunning palace, specially selected by Lucia. 

This is a private palace that is accessible only by appointment and with the help of our connection with Lucia. 

Designed by Architect Vittoria, on commission from the Bernardo family, the Palace was built in 1550. 
Around 200 years ago, the current owner's ancestors added a new Italian garden to the palace, demolishing a series of houses on the side closest to the Grand Canal in the process and gave the Palazzo Nani Bernardo an entirely new, and harmonious aspect that is still evident today.

Another element is the really valuable back garden, very nice and extraordinarily extended in length, made during the eighteenth century. In case Nani Bernardo is booked out for a private event, we will replace this stop with Ca. Rezzonico Palace or an equally stunning palace.

This is one of the last remaining boatyards of Venice. Typically hard to access since it's a working facility and tours are not provided without prior notice. It's also essential to have someone local to interpret the workings of the place for you. [Note: There are times when the Squero is closed for maintenance. In these instances, Lucia will ensure that you see the Squero from the outside and explain the workings in the best possible way.]

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and dress appropriately for the season. In summer, expect hot weather and come prepared with a good hat and lightweight clothing. In winter, bring a coat. This is a food-and-neighborhood experience through Istanbul, tracing the daily routes locals take every day. It begins at the Spice Bazaar, where shelves of saffron, sumac, and dried figs recall the city’s trading past. From there, you’ll board a ferry across the Bosphorus and explore three villages on the Asian side—each with its own rhythm.

In Üsküdar, snack on street simit and stuffed mussels while browsing produce stands that locals frequent. Then hop into a dolmuş (mini-bus) to reach Çengelköy, a waterfront village known for its pickled cucumbers, tea gardens, and hillside lanes. From there, head to Kuzguncuk, where wooden houses lean into each other and synagogues sit beside churches. At every stop, you’ll sample what’s fresh: gözleme off the griddle, olives, cheeses, pickles, baklava, and tea. The route ends in a family-run café, tucked behind grapevines. Jamaica

In the mist-covered Blue Mountains of Jamaica lies the enchanting Holywell Park, a hidden gem that whispers stories of nature's wonders. Amidst the lush greenery, we embarked on a long walk with a local guide, seeking tranquility. We wandered through the verdant trails, each turn unveiling a canvas of vibrant ferns, towering trees, and melodious bird songs that filled the air.

Holywell Recreational Park, situated about 3,000 feet above sea level and roughly an hour's drive from Kingston, is a haven for nature enthusiasts. The park, part of the Blue and John Crow Mountains, is a lush sanctuary that boasts several species of ferns among other flora like wild raspberries, cheeseberries, epiphytes, nasturtiums, impatients, and notable trees including the Blue Mahoe (Jamaica’s national tree), Caribbean Pine, and Milkwood. The park also supports various species of endemic birds. It offers a range of trails with varying difficulties, from easy to moderate, and can take anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes to complete, providing an immersive nature experience amidst the cooler mountain temperatures.

Ferns and More

As you enter the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, and wander through its halls and chambers, know that you're walking in the footsteps of Doges and councilors who shaped the destiny of the Serenissima Republic. The palace stands proudly as a symbol of Venice's glorious past: Gothic grandeur meets Renaissance elegance. Key highlights:

1: The palace has opulent façades adorned with intricate carvings, statues, and frescoes. Originally a 9th-century structure, the palace underwent numerous renovations, especially under Doge Francesco Foscari in the 15th century, reflecting Gothic and Renaissance influences.

2: Inside, the Hall of the Great Council, built between 1340 and 1355, impresses with its size and harmonious proportions. Here, the greatest artists of their time, including Tintoretto and Veronese, contributed to its decoration. The highlight is Tintoretto's 'Paradise,' the world's largest oil painting, which fills the entire wall behind the Doge's throne.

3: The “Stairs of Gold” lead to the opulent state apartments. Only the Council and Doge's guests of honor were allowed to use these stairs. Each room, including the Doge's private quarters and the ornate Sala del Collegio, tells a story through its lavish decoration and artworks.

4: The council chambers, where policy decisions were made, are sumptuously decorated with paintings by Titian, Veronese, and other masters. 
5: The iconic Bridge of Sighs connects the palace to the prisons. The bridge got its name from the sighs of prisoners catching their last glimpse of Venice before their imprisonment.
