What is this?

A private day trip from Seville into the sacred craft and hospitality of Jerez de la Frontera, guided by a member of a Jerez hermandad — one of the religious brotherhoods that shape Andalusia's second-largest Semana Santa. You start at an embroidery workshop where exquisite ceremonial vestments are made for the brotherhoods of Jerez's Semana Santa — in gold and silver thread on velvet, worked by hand. Every piece is a multi-year commission; if you wish, you can sit at the bastidor (the wooden frame on which the fabric is stretched) to try a stitch yourself. A tasting of Jerez dishes and wines follows at a private stately home in Jerez, hosted by the lady of the house — a woman of standing in the sherry industry. The afternoon closes with a private visit behind closed doors arranged by your host at two of Jerez's most important sacred sites — Basílica de la Merced and Basílica del Carmen — along with Fundación Seguros Reales and a brotherhood museum.

What makes this unique?

Each of the elements of this experience is rare — and Reyes's combination of them, led by a brotherhood member, is rarer still. Andalusian sacred embroidery — gold and silver thread on velvet — is 600 years old as an organized craft. The Jerez workshop is not a commercial tourist space and sits behind unmarked doors; it works on real commissions from the city's brotherhoods. Jerez's sherry world is a small, intermarried aristocracy of Spanish, Irish and British families. To be received in that space is a form of hospitality that never had a booking page. The two basilicas are home to two of Andalusia's most venerated Virgins — the patrona of Jerez since 1272, and the first Virgen del Carmen canonically crowned in all of Spain. Their camarines are ordinarily accessible only during besamanos or after Mass; Reyes has arranged private daytime access to both, with a brotherhood-member host whose knowledge of the traditions and work of the brotherhoods comes from growing up in them

What is the profile of the host?

Your host is a member of one of Jerez's brotherhoods — someone whose year is organized around the cultos, the cabildos, the preparations for Semana Santa. He is fluent in the sacred art, the imagery, and the history of the brotherhoods you visit, from within his own life and story. His insights are based on what he has grown up with. It's a privilege to be taken behind closed doors into some of the most venerated spaces in Jerez. Reyes García curates this experience alongside a wider collection of festival and cultural experiences across Spain — all built on the principle that the parts of Spanish life worth traveling for are made accessible through relationships built patiently over years. She ensures you feel welcomed and invited into worlds that may be different from your own, in a way that builds curiosity and connection. She ensures the hosts and venues who welcome you are properly cared for. The exchange runs both ways.

What to bring?

Comfortable walking shoes for walking through the old town. Dress for the weather. Modest dress is appreciated inside the basilicas (shoulders and knees covered). A camera.
