What is this?
This walking tour takes you around the district of Graça, one of Lisbon’s most picturesque neighborhoods, known for its street art, panoramic viewpoints, and lively atmosphere. You’ll begin in front of one of Shepard Fairey’s (Obey) murals, the starting point of an itinerary filled with murals painted by international and Portuguese artists.
As you navigate Graça’s steep alleys and stairways, you’ll learn why this district became a canvas for so many art pieces, discover spots that once served as important cultural meeting points, and experience the vibrancy that defines the neighborhood today.
Along the way, you’ll pause at some of the city’s most iconic miradouros, taking in sweeping views over Lisbon’s rooftops and river. A break in a neighborhood café gives you the chance to enjoy a local snack before continuing downhill towards the multicultural neighborhood of Mouraria, where you'll find more walls produced in partnership with a local association.
What makes this unique?
Your hosts are active participants in Lisbon’s creative community. Their deep connection with local artists means you’ll hear insider stories and perspectives behind the murals. You’ll pass through places like Caracol da Graça, an alleyway transformed into a rotating open-air gallery, where emerging voices sit alongside established names.
You’ll see why certain corners of Graça became magnets for artistic expression, and how these works have shaped — and been shaped by — the neighborhood’s character. Along the way, you’ll also gain insight into how Lisbon’s street art connects with wider social, political, and cultural currents.
The experience concludes in Mouraria, where the team has helped create a few murals with a local association reflecting the neighborhood's multicultural traits. Your participation contributes to sustaining the scene: part of this experience directly supports young and emerging artists, helping to fund new projects and preserve spaces for creativity in Lisbon.
What is the profile of the host?
Véro is a visual anthropologist, cultural mediator, and socio-cultural worker whose work bridges art, community, and storytelling. Immersed in Lisbon’s street art world, she has spent years researching public art, interviewing artists, and creating projects that explore how murals reflect social, political, and cultural change. Her anthropological background allows her to read walls as living archives of the city, bringing a depth of perspective that connects each piece of art to Lisbon’s wider narrative.
Diogo, born and raised in Lisbon, has spent much of his life traveling the world, returning with a global outlook that complements his intimate knowledge of the city. Together, they offer an unapologetic, authentic voice on Lisbon’s street art scene, connecting visitors not only to the works on the walls but also to the people and forces that keep the city’s creative spirit alive.
What to bring?
Sturdy walking shoes to tackle Lisbon's hills and staircases, a camera or smartphone for photos, and a water bottle to stay hydrated.
