What is this?
This full-day tour blends history, the arts, and food. You'll start at the ruins of Pachacamac, Lima's largest archaeological site, where you will explore the temples and the on-site museum. You will then visit a local community of artisans and see their ceramics and textiles workshops, learning about their techniques. Lunch is prepared at the home of a ceramics artist — and you'll play a starring role. Lunch begins with a cooking class where you will learn how to prepare a simple, traditional dish such as Causa or Papa a la Huancaína from scratch.
The experience includes transportation to and from your hotel in Lima and professional guiding from Alfredo. He will narrate the story of Pachacamac, explaining the different temples and how this was once the most significant sanctuary on the Andean coast. In the craft quarter, he will facilitate cultural exchanges with the modern makers keeping pre-Columbian methodologies alive, who will demonstrate their techniques.
What makes this unique?
This experience invites you to actively participate in living heritage. At Pachacamac, Alfredo brings the temples to life through storytelling that connects ancient rituals with present-day culture. For more than a thousand years, pilgrims traveled to Pachacamac to consult its oracle, one of the most revered spiritual centers on the Andean coast.
In the artisan community, you engage directly with ceramicists and textile makers, ask questions, and understand the symbolism behind their work. Lunch becomes a shared moment of creation. In the home of a ceramics artist, you take part in preparing a traditional dish, cooking side by side in a relaxed, family setting.
At a time when many Indigenous artisans face unfair competition, mass production, and declining recognition, your visit supports fair trade practices and dignified livelihoods. This is immersive, responsible travel that fosters real connection and meaningful impact.
What is the profile of the host?
Born in Lima and raised in the Andes, Alfredo has always carried Peru in his heart while exploring the world. He has lived in India, the Philippines, Thailand, and China, where he worked as an advertiser, journalist, and even a chef specializing in Sichuanese cuisine. These experiences deepened his appreciation for cultural diversity and ultimately inspired him to return home. In 2015, he co-founded an initiative bringing solar power and quality education to remote Andean communities through sustainable tourism.
Alfredo is also the proud owner a Lima-based company offering authentic, responsible tours that create real impact. For Alfredo, travel is more than discovery; it is a way to uplift communities, honor traditions, and give dignity back to the most vulnerable. In the case that Alfredo is not available to guide this tour, he will send a guide who shares his morals and guiding style.
