What is this?

Feel a salty breeze in your hair as you experience Lima’s coastal culture in the traditional fishing district of Chorrillos. This experience introduces you to the history and living traditions of Lima’s fishermen, boat builders, artisans, cooks, and families as you chat with locals and learn about daily life. The outing begins at a seafood market and pier, where fishermen share stories of life at sea and the importance of preserving local traditions. Your guide, Alfredo, is at your side to facilitate these conversations. If the weather allows, you’ll enjoy a 20-minute boat ride along the coast before visiting an artisanal boat builder’s workshop to understand how these traditional vessels are made. After taking in panoramic views from the Morro Solar hills, you’ll conclude your morning by learning to prepare ceviche at a family-owned restaurant. This tour offers a taste of Lima’s heart, history and hospitality.

What makes this unique?

This tour connects you directly with Lima’s living culture. Alfredo’s mission is to reveal an authentic side of Lima many travelers miss while ensuring that your visit supports and empowers the local community who make your visit possible. Each stop benefits real people—fishermen, boat builders, cooks, and guides who share their traditions with you. Your participation helps sustain artisanal fishing and supports local pride in this often-overlooked coastal district. What makes it special is how interactive it is: you’ll chat with fishermen, step into a craftsman’s workshop, stand on a hill steeped in Peruvian history, and prepare your own ceviche alongside a local chef while learning about creole customs. A hands-on journey through Lima’s living traditions, this experience is direct, engaging, and personal. Your visit provides additional income to community members such as the boat maker, boat owner, and local cook.

What is the profile of the host?

Born in Lima and raised in the Andes, Alfredo has always carried Peru in his heart while exploring the world. He lived in India, the Philippines, Thailand, and China, where he worked as an advertiser, journalist, and even a chef specializing in Sichuan cuisine. These experiences deepened his appreciation for cultural diversity and ultimately inspired him to return home. In 2015, he co-founded a social initiative that brings solar power and quality education to remote Andean communities through sustainable tourism. Alfredo is also the owner of a Lima-based company offering responsible tours designed to create meaningful local impact. For Alfredo, travel is more than discovery; it is a way to uplift communities, honor traditions, and support those most in need. Passionate and driven, he invites travelers to see Peru not only with their eyes, but with their hearts—and to become part of something transformative.
