What is this?

A one-hour portrait and lifestyle photoshoot in Jalatlaco, a neighborhood known for its pastel façades, wrought-iron balconies, and walls shaped by decades of reinvention. You begin just after dawn, when the cobbled streets are quiet and shopkeepers are opening their doors. The early light is soft and directional — ideal for portraits that feel natural yet cinematic. Paco leads you to the best locations within side streets and mural-lined corners, where color, texture, and shadow create depth: sun-faded walls, ironwork catching the light, bougainvillea spilling over stone. The route continues toward Jalatlaco’s mural lane, where street art, cracked stone, and layered surfaces frame images that are composed but allow for creativity and engagement. The session closes at a rooftop or quiet viewpoint, where full morning light washes across the pastel skyline and your portraits hold both atmosphere and presence.

What makes this unique?

This photoshoot is shaped first by light, atmosphere, and place. Oaxaca’s luminosity is prized by photographers because its bright, directional quality reveals texture and color without harsh contrast, allowing low-ISO capture and subtle gradations that flatter both subject and setting. In Jalatlaco, that light meets walls and streets built over centuries: colonial façades, cobblestone lanes, and murals that respond differently as morning sun and shadow move across them. The neighborhood’s early rhythm — quiet, unhurried — allows Paco to work with light as it shifts, creating portraits that feel naturally cinematic. Jalatlaco — once a tannery town, now a creative enclave — offers surfaces shaped by craft and reinvention. Paco works within that setting. Your portraits become a dialogue between you and the city: stone, color, texture, presence. The camera moves at your pace, while painted walls, shuttered doors, and café terraces frame images that hold both atmosphere and context.

What is the profile of the host?

Francisco “Paco” Cuevas is an Oaxacan photographer and videographer rooted in the cultural rhythms of his city and state. Passionate about Oaxaca’s history, art, and everyday life, he has worked alongside the Secretaría de Turismo del Estado de Oaxaca, shaping visual stories that bring place to life. Rather than a conventional tour guide, Paco acts as a visual experience curator, guiding travelers to meaningful moments and the best photographic settings across Oaxaca’s markets, homes, and festivities. Paco’s work spans professional photography and cinematic video — including weddings, cultural productions, and collaborations with local artists — and he frequently documents major events like Guelaguetza and Día de Muertos. Through his photography experiences, he helps travelers create personal and shareable images that reflect the beauty, texture, and cultural depth of Oaxaca.

What to bring?
