What is this?
You start in the historic village of Kastro, the island's medieval capital, where whitewashed alleys and sea views reveal a quieter side of the Cyclades. You explore the village and its small museum to trace Sifnos' connections to the ancient Aegean world. From here, you continue to the chapel of the Seven Martyrs, dramatically perched above the sea.
You then visit a ceramic workshop in Artemonas to discover one of Sifnos' most enduring craft traditions, dating to the Proto-Cycladic period and still practiced in family workshops. Then you wander past traditional windmills to reach a small chapel overlooking one of the island's most beautiful views.
The experience ends in the bougainvillea-filled courtyard of a family home, where you slow down over local sweets and Greek coffee, discovering Sifnos' gastronomic culture and the legacy of Nikolaos Tselementes — the Sifnian chef whose 1932 cookbook became so foundational that "tselemente" remains the Greek word for cookbook today.
What makes this unique?
This beautifully personal experience opens the lived-in side of Sifnos through places, conversations, and traditions that are part of everyday island life. It brings together the essential elements of Sifnos' identity: medieval history, landscape, pottery, and a hospitality and gastronomic culture that has earned Sifnos its reputation as the culinary capital of the Cyclades.
You experience this through Özge, who is married to a Sifnian and introduces you to the island through the eyes of a local family. Her expertise as a historian of the ancient world and licensed guide combines with the insider perspective of someone who really knows the island.
The experience is offered in two versions. The morning edition follows the full route through Kastro and Artemonas, focusing on history, craft, and village life. The evening edition follows a slightly adapted rhythm, excluding the museum visit and concluding at a hidden viewpoint in Artemonas to watch the sunset settling over the island.
What is the profile of the host?
Özge is a guide from Istanbul working in Greece and Turkey, and a historian specializing in epigraphy, the study of ancient inscriptions. Trained in Turkey, she now continues her postdoctoral research in Athens.
Being married to a Sifnian and now part of his family, the island has become her home too, and she knows it intimately. Through research and guiding, Özge connects academic knowledge with storytelling, creating experiences that move beyond standard historical narratives.
