What is this?
This private tour takes place inside the Louvre, once the royal palace of French kings before the court moved to Versailles, and later transformed into a museum during the French Revolution. Its lavish decoration becomes the setting for a focused exploration of the Louvre’s iconic works. Guided by Adeline, an officially licensed guide and historian, you move through the building with its dual identity as palace and museum in view.
As you walk through galleries spanning ancient Egypt, antiquity, the Renaissance, and the nineteenth century, the visit follows a clear narrative across artistic ideals. Particular attention is given to representations of women in art, from virgins and mothers to mistresses, queens, and goddesses, offering insight into ideas of beauty, power, and identity.
Over two hours, the flow combines historical context, close observation, and storytelling, allowing you to engage with major masterpieces without being overwhelmed by the museum’s scale.
What makes this unique?
This experience is carefully curated around a selection of iconic works that allow you to grasp the essential meaning of the Louvre while navigating its vast scale with clarity. In a museum of such magnitude, protecting time and focus becomes a form of privilege.
What distinguishes it is the point of view. The Louvre is approached as a continuous narrative of artistic ideas unfolding across civilizations and centuries. Adeline brings these connections to light with the perspective of a historian, tracing how forms, symbols, and ideals recur and transform beyond period labels.
A central focus is placed on the representation of women in art. Figures ranging from sacred to secular, intimate to public, offer a way to read shifting ideas of power, beauty, and social roles across time. Adeline’s insights give coherence to these images, grounding them in historical context while keeping the discussion vivid and accessible.
What is the profile of the host?
Adeline Verspieren is a licensed guide based in Paris. She was born and grew up in the Upper Marais, a creative, trendy, and historic district of the city, and now lives near Parc Monceau, where she chose to raise her three children.
She holds a master’s degree in 18th-century French history from the Sorbonne, focusing her studies on the Grand Tour, an aristocratic rite of passage. She has worked in tourism since 2010, guiding travelers from around the world through Paris.
