What is this?

Explore the Trsteno Botanic Garden, just 20 minutes from Dubrovnik, on a tour designed to engage all the senses. This experience brings together the beauty of nature with the history of Dubrovnik’s Renaissance villas and the traditions of the surrounding countryside. As you walk through the garden, you learn about the diversity of its plants, their uses, myths and biology, while discovering the story of the locality and the role of olive oil production through the villa’s olive mill. The tour is especially well suited to families, with interactive and creative content woven throughout the visit so children can learn about nature while having fun at the same time. After exploring the garden’s natural and historical highlights, including its 500-year-old Asian plane trees, the experience continues with a picnic in a palm meadow in the shade of the trees. The food served is ecological, fresh, homemade, and local to the region, sourced from the hosts' family farm and nearby producers.

What makes this unique?

What sets this experience apart is the way it combines historical insight, botanical knowledge, and sensory discovery in one setting. The Trsteno Botanic Garden, with its rich plant life and historical significance, becomes the backdrop for a journey through sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. The inclusion of the olive mill, the stories tied to the plants, and the adjustment of the tour for children make it both educational and enjoyable across generations. Another distinctive part of the experience is the picnic itself, which offers a taste of authentic local cuisine in an idyllic setting. Its emphasis on ecological sustainability and produce from family farms creates a deeper connection to the natural world and to the cultural heritage of the Dubrovnik region. Bringing together history, nature, and gastronomy, the experience offers a family-friendly way to encounter the countryside through both knowledge and flavor.
