What is this?
Join a Chilean chef and restaurateur in this immersive and authentic culinary journey in Santiago, Chile. This five-hour private food experience starts at the city's oldest markets (Mercado Central and Mercado La Vega) and ends over a home-cooked meal at the chef's apartment in the exclusive El Golf neighborhood.
To start, Cristian (or, Tatán) will walk you through Santiago's meat, fresh produce, and fish markets while explaining their history. Once in the car, you will pass by the Isidora Goyenechea foodie corridor and learn about the gastronomical scene — this is an opportunity to procure local restaurant recommendations. Upon arrival at Tatán's apartment, you will receive a welcome cocktail with oysters (or equivalent) from the Pacific Ocean. This flows into appetizers and wine before starting the gourmet cooking class. The menu starts with Ceviche de Reineta, continues with Charquicán (a meat dish from the Mapuche culture), and ends with a light dessert.
What makes this unique?
Passionate about food, Tatán's experience combines an authentic exploration of Santiago's main food markets and the preparation of a fresh meal in his private home. Born and raised in the Chilean capital, Tatán knows the markets like the back of his hand. He will share anecdotes and explain the nuances of Chilean food culture and cooking techniques as you meander the aisles.
Visiting Tatán apartment's adds a rare authenticity to your Santiago food experience. Conversation will flow over a feast of traditional dishes using ingredients you purchased together that morning. The typical menu starts with ceviche made from reineta (white fish) followed by a dish of Charquicán – a hearty stew with Indigenous roots. Reserve wines and sparkling wine is served alongside soft drinks and fresh fruit juices. An incredibly well-traveled and entertaining host, Tatán is keen to exchange stories and ensure that you feel at home throughout the gourmet extravaganza.
