Begin at one of Tokyo's most important temples and the burial site of several of Japan's former Shogun. From there, shift to the electric and eclectic Takeshita Dori, home of Tokyo's cutting-edge fashion trends. Pass through the torii gate into the peaceful confines of Meiji Jingu Shrine, before heading to Shibuya via a fashionable Omotesando shopping street.

This tour moves through different neighborhoods at the pace Tokyo moves — fast, fluid, full of contrast. One moment, you’re beneath cypress trees in a Shinto shrine. The next, shoulder to shoulder with teenagers in full cosplay. Temple gates give way to steel towers. Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower stand side by side — a 17th-century wooden gate and a 20th-century broadcast spire. They belong together, even in contrast.

Begin your storyline at Zojoji Temple, the Tokugawa Shogunate’s family temple. This place has tremendous gravitas. The Sangedatsumon Gate (1622) remains bronze-fastened wood, offering shade and shadow. Beyond it rises Tokyo Tower, completed in 1958, its broadcast lights glowing like embers in steel. Within Zojoji’s grounds are mausoleums of Tokugawa shoguns and quiet memorials. You will visit a gallery showcasing a remarkable collection of painted scrolls.

Arriving in Shibuya, your first destination is Shibuya Yokocho, a modern take on the neighborhood's roots in izakaya food culture, where you will enjoy dinner in this visually stunning location with a casual vibe. Here you can choose foods from one of many different regions of Japan, sharing small dishes so you can sample as much as possible. During good weather, enjoy the fresh air of the evening eating along the walkway at tables in front of the restaurants.

This dinner is about the tempo as much as it is about the food. Enjoy the atmosphere as local office workers unwind over drinks and fellow visitors chatting about their day in English. Even as Shibuya rapidly modernizes, the aspect of sharing food, drink and companionship never changes.

Dusk Between Eras

Your final act begins at Shibuya Scramble Crossing, the iconic image of urban Tokyo. Experience the chaos of crossing the Scramble before heading to a quieter space where you can view and film the coordinated movements of the masses from a few stories above the crossing in an exclusive space, snacks and drinks included.

Finally, a few minutes away is the historic Nonbei Yokocho, a district whose residents and regulars have fought for its survival against modern development and established itself as an intimate location to enjoy a quiet drink in an otherwise buzzy district. A toast, then, to an evening in Tokyo well spent, before your guide bids you farewell and leaves you to begin a new chapter in your Tokyo experience, if that is your wish.

Nonbei Yokocho means "Drunkard’s Alley," but its charm isn’t in the alcohol — it’s in the intimacy. This area holds decades of history in two narrow alleys lined with about 40 bars. With your guide, you learn the etiquette, the backstories, and the names behind the signs. 

Your guide will leave you around 7 PM - and you can enjoy this street and Tokyo's nightlife a bit more on your own.

Iconic Scramble & Tiny Bars

Passing through the enormous Torii gate, you enter the tree-lined path marking the approach to Meiji Jingu, established in 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken — a shrine built from trees donated from across all of Japan. The long walk from the crowded streets of Harajuku to the main shrine is, by design, a passageway from the distractions of the city to the quiet, peacefulness of this place of great spiritual significance. Along your walk, your guide explains the meanings behind purification rituals, torii gates, and the rope and paper shimenawa, adorning trees and rocks around the shrine precinct. The sound here is soft: gravel underfoot, prayer beads, birds. Then you step back into the city’s pulse, heading through trendy Omotesando via Cat Street on your way to Shibuya.

Meiji Jingu stands at an intersection of old and new: built to honor one of Japan’s most modernizing emperors, yet made from materials rooted in tradition. Its forest was destroyed in wartime air raids and reconstructed — which means every tree and structure here carries history, intention, loss, and renewal. 

This place sets the tone for the tour: how old and new co-exist in Tokyo. Your guide brings context, not just facts, and helps you connect this serene moment to the contrasts to come.
