Each September, for a few days, the whitewashed streets of Utrera fill with lanterns, horses, music, and the rhythms of flamenco during the Feria y Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de Consolación, the town’s annual celebration of its patron saint. Just a short journey from Seville, Utrera opens onto a feria shaped by long memory, local pride, and one of the deepest flamenco traditions in Andalusia.

Your day begins with a private transfer from Seville to Utrera — upon arriving, you’ll immerse in the stories of its artistic legacy, its place in flamenco history, and the lasting influence of the Gitano community.

You step inside an authentic family-run tent, where a traditional stew is served and singing rises naturally around the table. You move between lively casetas, learning the basics of flamenco palmas and simple dance steps, before crossing the town in a horse-drawn carriage. Along the way, you visit the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Consolación and stop for churros with hot chocolate.

This is a rare way into the social fabric of Utrera’s feria, where hospitality, music, and rhythm are shared as part of the community.

Utrera’s place in flamenco history makes this especially meaningful. The town is closely associated with major flamenco artists and is also home to the Potaje Gitano, widely described as the first flamenco festival in the world. The Gitano community was recently honored by the town in the commemoration of 600 years since the arrival of Roma people in Spain. During the feria, that heritage is visible in the singing and dancing and present in the way people gather.

The Santuario adds another layer. It is one of the town’s most important devotional sites and contains a remarkable Baroque altarpiece, giving the day a religious and artistic dimension alongside the feria’s social life. Together, these moments connect celebration, belief, history, and flamenco in a way that feels distinctly Utrera.

You’ll climb into a traditional horse-drawn carriage and glide through the fairgrounds, passing decorated casetas and locals dressed in vibrant ‘traje de flamenca’. 

The journey includes a stop at the revered Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Consolación, a spiritual and cultural landmark at the heart of the town. 

To end on a sweet note, you’ll pause for freshly made churros dipped in rich hot chocolate, a beloved Andalusian ritual.
