This full-day experience from Bodrum takes you into the heart of the Milas region, where nature, history, and food come together at the shores of Lake Bafa. Begin your day in the ancient village of Kapıkırı, exploring the weathered stone walls and ruins of ancient Heraclea, scattered among traditional village homes and olive groves. 

From there, board a small boat for a serene ride across Bafa Lake. You’ll circle Menet Island, once home to Byzantine monks, and take a short walk among its hidden chapels and ancient stonework. Once part of the Aegean, Lake Bafa now feels like a world apart, where ancient shoreline history still shapes the landscape.

Returning to shore, you’ll be welcomed at a family-run lakeside restaurant for a traditional seafood lunch, with options like locally-caught snake fish, a regional delicacy. The day ends with an olive oil tasting at a nearby farm, where you'll sample small-batch oils and learn how ancient techniques still shape modern production.

After pick up in Bodrum, you drive about an hour to Kapıkırı, a quiet village on the edge of Lake Bafa where the ruins of ancient Heraclea remain embedded in everyday life. Walk among weathered stone walls, old houses, olive groves, and the surviving traces of a once-important settlement at the foot of the Latmos Mountains. This first stage introduces the region through landscape, archaeology, and village life rather than through a museum-style visit.

Kapıkırı is unusual because the ancient city is not sealed off from the present: children play among ruins, homes sit beside old stones, and the village itself is protected for its cultural and historical value. Heraclea’s remains are still experienced in situ, with the lake and dramatic Latmos backdrop shaping the sense of place. It gives the history unusual intimacy.

End the day at a nearby olive farm in the Milas region, tasting small-batch oils and learning how local production still draws on long-established methods. This is a direct introduction to one of the area’s defining agricultural traditions, with a focus on flavor, harvest practices, and the character of oils made from local olives in a landscape long shaped by cultivation.

Milas is one of the few places in Türkiye with EU-protected olive oil status, and olive growing here is both cultural inheritance and living craft. It closes the day with something deeply regional. From here, you drive back to Bodrum.
