What is this?
This is an exclusive once-a-year day trip from Seville that allows you to partake in just one of the days of pilgrimage to El Rocío. You'll join a local brotherhood as they walk from Seville to El Rocío, beginning at dawn and stretching into the midnight hour.
THIS EXPERIENCE IS ONLY OFFERED FOR MAY 20-25, 2026.
After an early morning pickup at your Seville hotel, you'll be transported to the mystical paths traversed by the pilgrimage, known only to insiders. With a local brotherhood member as your host, you'll immerse in a day filled with singing, dancing, and ritual observances dedicated to the Virgin del Rocío.
You'll walk along scenic sandy paths, sit in a horse drawn carriage when tired, immerse in unique local customs, learn traditional dances, partake in communal meals featuring regional cuisine, and experience the heartfelt prayers that echo the pilgrims' deep devotion.
Around midnight, you will be transported back - reluctantly - to your hotel in Seville.
What makes this unique?
This experience of one of Spain's most famous pilgrimages provides a rare glimpse into the soul of Andalusian culture, articulated through every step and song along the route to El Rocío.
What sets the El Rocío Pilgrimage apart is not just its scale, being one of the largest of its kind in Europe, but its blend of religious devotion and festive exuberance. You will engage in old rituals and practices as the pilgrimage progresses. The shared meals, from midday repasts to a hearty dinner, are a celebration of communal unity.
This pilgrimage is a visual spectacle and showcases traditional Andalusian culture. Participants will be dressed in elaborate, colorful flamenco dresses. It is a profound and high-octane expression of regional identity. The sights and sounds, the food and drinks, the sandy trails marked by the hooves of horses, combine to create a tapestry of experiences that transform this day trip from Seville into an unforgettable encounter with tradition and spirituality.
What is the profile of the host?
Your guide, a lifelong member of the local brotherhood, brings not only expertise but a personal passion for the pilgrimage tradition. Educated in the history and cultural practices of Andalusia, they offer an insider's view into the spiritual journey, enhancing your experience with personal stories and deep knowledge of the pilgrimage rituals. They are typically participated in the pilgrimage themselves from a young age. Their firsthand experience provides an authentic perspective.
What to bring?
Comfortable walking shoes for navigating the sandy terrains. A hat or capto shield yourself from the intense Andalusian sun. A water bottle and camera. Men should opt for a breathable white shirt made of linen or hemp, paired with pants in shades of blue, dark green, or brown. Women may prefer a long skirt or dress, suitable for both walking and riding. Additional Note: Please be aware that restroom facilities are sparse along the route. Pilgrims typically make use of natural areas for breaks.
